Description

To understand the complexity of modern Israel, you have to first understand the history. This is a nation that has been exiled not once, not twice, but three times… and each time has returned to re-inhabit their homeland. This is unique. How and why has this happened?

In 1998 Julia Fisher spent time in Israel working as a broadcast journalist. That visit signalled the start of a quest to find out more about the biblical relevance of the region and what God is doing there through the lives of believers who live there today - Jews, Israeli Arabs, and Palestinians.

In this study, Julia looks at the story of Israel from a biblical perspective. Her belief is that when we do this, we are taken above the level of politics and opinion to another realm altogether: it takes us to the Bible where we find the history, and the future, of Israel told in great detail.

This is a book of stories stretching back four thousand years, coming right up to date with true-life stories that are emerging today - and even taking a glance into the future.

This book encourages an audience who thinks Israel is an irrelevant issue to think again and understand what God has done and is doing through this small nation. This Bible is, after all, a Jewish book. Jesus was Jewish. Our destiny is tied up in both.

To understand the complexity of modern Israel, you have to first understand the history. This is a nation that has been exiled not once, not twice, but three times… and each time has returned to...

In UNDERSTANDING MODERN ISRAEL, JULIA FISHER takes us from Genesis to the modern age, and even to the future, as she gives us a biblical perspective of the history and importance of God's Holy Land. It is a lovely book, not at all heavy, and one I highly recommend to anyone who loves the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. This is not a political treatise, it is a book that shows us the outworking of biblical prophecy as it affects both Jew and Arab (Gentile) in the land of Israel and, in fact, people all over the world. I particularly like the interviews with both Messianic Jews and Christian Arabs who, in spite of danger, preach the Gospel of reconciliation. It is an interesting and inspirational read. I was given a free copy of the book by NetGalley from Lion Hudson Ltd. The opinions in this review are completely my own.

Such an interesting perspective. Truthfully, I should've read the description instead of glancing at it because I really wanted to understand the happens of Israel as we know it today and why it is the target of so many countries, peoples, groups, and activists, but this really looked at Israel through the Christian lens. It was still interesting and I appreciated the author's research and hard work.
