Description

The World’s Most Pointless Animals is a witty, quirky, colorfully-illustrated book featuring fascinating facts about some very silly animals…who we find are perhaps not so pointless after all.

From familiar animals like giraffes (who don’t have any vocal cords) through to those that surely should not even exist, such as the pink fairy armadillo (absurdly huge front claws, super tough protective shell in baby pink, particularly susceptible to stress), our planet is full of some pretty weird and wonderful animals. For example:

Koalas spend up to 18 hours a day asleep!

Pandas are born bright pink, deaf, and blind.

Dumbo octopuses flap their big fin-like ears to move around.

A Narwhal’s tusk grows through its upper lip—ouch!

With hilarious text throughout and bright, contemporary illustrations, this guide to absurdly awesome animals contains funny labelled diagrams and some excellent made-up Latin names (n.b. the jellyfish’s scientific name is not actually wibblious wobblious ouchii).

Carrying an important message of celebrating diversity and differences, The World’s Most Pointless Animals inspires a drive to conserve our amazing planet and the creatures we’re lucky enough to share it with.

I liked this book because some of the Latin names were changed into funnier versions. It combines the true facts with the funny side of this book. For example, the leafy seadragon's coral-like bits on its body are absolutely "pointless" as the title suggests the animals in the book are classified "pointless".
After reading the book in one sitting I immediately started looking up some of the weirder entries on the internet for more information.
The illustrations are true to life cartoony way, with the illustrator drawing eyes on an animal that didn't have them but also pointing that out so there was no confusion.
This book is an easy read for a good 8-year-old reader, and my favourite animal in the whole book is the Axolotl.
By my almost 8-year-old Daughter.

Just finished reading this one with my animal mad 6 year old and he absolutely loved it!
The illustrations are adorable (even for the less attractive animals!) and the text is informative and funny, I especially liked the Latin names given, can you guess which animal Rattus Wingus is?!

Would definitely recommend this funny fact fillled book.

I recently had a week’s holiday and when we were away I read a lot of “facts” books and they were really good! This one was funny as well as informative and I loved the way that the author changed the Latin names to ones more apt for a giggle!

As an adult I really enjoyed this book and I always wanted to read this kind of book when I was younger too. I loved the punchy style of the different facts and trivia that you learn as the book progressed, I love the natural world and I can see this being a massive hit with children!

It is 5 stars from me for this one, I loved it and can easily see it being a firm favourite!

Very highly recommended!

This book is funny and full of random, yet interesting facts about some of the world's, apparently, most useless animals! This would be enjoyed by all ages with giggles and possibly even stifled snorts!
There was a couple of issues with images and pages turned the wrong way but I'm sure they will have been fixed up for the released edition and certainly didn't spoil the experience.

This fact book is perfect for animal lovers and presents a wide selection of animals, some of which are quite unusual. My three-year-old helped pick out the wooden animals shown in the picture (used on my Instagram post) for some of the slightly more mainstream animals represented in the book; for many, such as the blobfish, the axolotl, the tufted deer, or the pink fairy armadillo, we didn’t have any play figures.

The illustrations are lovely, and each animal is introduced in a way that is both humorous and informative. The re-invented Latin names for the species were a hit with both my older two. The annotated picture style of the pages (swipe to see a few examples) appealed to my eldest, who is an independent reader, as a quick way of accessing information. We learnt something new for each species, with a few giggles along the way.

Thanks to @netgalley and the publishers for a digital copy of this book in exchange for a review.
