Making Waves At Penvennen Cove is the second story set in a small British town where nothing anyone does can remain private for long, as former childhood crushes Kerra and Ross learn. Their fathers feud once spoiled their relationship before it ever really got started. Now adults, can they prevent a repeat? British author, Linn B. Haltom captures all the nuances of small town living, family drama and abiding friendships in this well written lovely second chance romance. I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book from NetGalley. Most highly recommend.

A lovely story but you need to have the read the first book Coming home to Penvennan Cove. A lovely setting of Cornwall. There is a third book which will tie it all up. Kerra is an amazing character . Very clever with her IT. The village likes a gossip .Both Kerra and Ross ‘s fathers need their head banging together . Ripley and Bertie are amazing animals. I love the fence part. Will definitely read the first and third book. This an early review

Numerous hours after thinking I’ll just read the first chapter and I’m finished! Heartbreaking as well as touching. I didn’t want to put this book down for even a moment. This superbly written story stayed with me long after I had turned the last page… I will read again and again I’m sure.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was a real page turner about Kerra her job helping small businesses and more importantly her romance with her childhood sweetheart that they tried to keep secret. Feuds between families can do that however secrets are never secrets for long and she was worried about losing everything. A really lovely story and one Ioved.

Kerra has gone back to Penvennan Cove after spending years in London and having a successful career. She has got back with her childhood sweetheart but they have to keep things quiet as her dad doesn't approve of him. Lovely book thoroughly enjoyed it.

This story is set in a small cornish village "Penvennan thrives because of the three main business that are the heart and soul of the community. The pub, the shop and they bakery. They are all owned by local people". This basically sums up the story how local people can be lovely to be around or if they don't agree with any changes or choices you make things can change very quickly.

The protagonist Kerra believes that "ones first love is always a special bond" so has moved from London back to Penvennan Cove where she grew up, to be with Ross. However both their fathers have a deep rooted rivalry and even hatred of each other. So they are trying to keep their relationship a secret from the whole community.

There is a wonderful array of characters in this community based novel, to many to keep secrets from and as Kerra has several plans for expanding her businesses portfolio it's not long until rumours start to come out. Some true, some not at all! Kerra even describes it as "living in a goldfish bowl at times after the anonymity of living in London".

I really enjoyed reading this book, and feel there  is a lot of scope for a second novel as it's very open ended, with several strands left open.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for giving me a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Making Waves at Penvennan Cove by Linn B Halton was a great read. Set in Cornwall I could imagine the residents would fear the ‘incomers’ trying to change things and it felt very realistic. Great story and lovely characters. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

Kerra has returned home from London to Penvennan Cove, and things are going well. She’s with all the people she loves, has set up her own business and has got together with the man of her dreams. The only problem is her Dad and her boyfriend, Ross’ Dad have been feuding for years, and sadly they feel like the only way to move forward is to keep their relationship a secret. But in a small village like Penvannan, is that even possible? And what will happen if the truth comes out?
We all know how much I love a book set in a little Cornish village and so this was right up my street. I love the fact that it’s a small gossipy village with some brilliant, unique characters (although I probably wouldn’t want to live there myself!). Linn does a wonderful job of bringing the village to life and you’ll just want go there!
I really liked Kerra and Ross and was routing for them all the way through. I found it sad that, at their age, they had to keep the relationship secret but this just kept me hoping that they’d get their happily ever after! There are a lot of other characters in this, and the only downside to this book is that it’s actually book 2 in a series (which I wasn’t aware of). I found it hard to begin with to understand who was who, so would definitely recommend reading the first one beforehand.
I did really enjoy the story though, the writing style was wonderful and easy to read, and the setting was perfect. I’d definitely like to read book 1, and I’m sure would have given more stars if I had. My advice, definitely check this series out but read book 1 first – and then read this! If you’re a fan of cosy villages and romances, then this is for you!

It took me a little while to get into this book as I didn't realize that it was the second in a projected trilogy. The book can be read as a standalone although it will take the reader some time to figure out who the characters are and what their motives are. Kerra Shaw has moved home to her little town in Cornwall to care for her father after the death of her mother. Kerra previously owned a successful website that she has now sold and is using the proceeds to invest in her hometown. At the same time, Kerra is carrying on a clandestine relationship with Ross. They are keeping it secret from her father as their fathers are enemies. Since Kerra and Ross live in a small town, you can imagine that this secret does not stay secret for long.
The pace of this realistic story reminded me of the Mitford series. If you liked that series, you may like this one as well. There are various storylines including the many inhabitants of Penvennan Cove and Kerra really invests in her neighborhood, both financially and emotionally.
Thanks to NetGalley and Aria for the ARC in return for my honest review.

Favorite Quotes:

As Granddad would have said of idle gossip: ‘T’aint right, t’aint fair, t’aint proper,’ and he was spot on.
I’ve had enough. I’m like a firework and the fuse paper has been lit. I’m about to explode and that thought scares me, but it also makes me feel free.

My Review:

This installment feels to be the middle of an ongoing story although capable of being read on its own with a happy for now ending while knowing there will be more to the tale. The realistic storylines were slowly unfolding and effusively detailed while thoroughly setting each scene. Each story thread highlighted and best and worst of small-town thinking and small-town living with gossip being the main course of every resident’s meal with the type of social and family issues that are likely happening on any street in any community. The characters were true to life and individually quirky as well as flawed and varying degrees of irksome.

Yet again, I’ve read a book not realising it was part of a series, although it didn’t strike me as such at the time so I didn’t feel I was missing anything. Enough information is given by various means to give just enough background on the characters and their lives.

Kerra Shaw recently returned to Penvennan Cove to support her father after the death of her mother and is in a relationship with her childhood sweetheart, Ross. They’re keeping their involvement very low key and as inconspicuous as possible due to an ongoing feud between the families. Apart from that, Kerra is pleased with her new entrepreneurial career options and very happy with Ross even though keeping the relationship secret is mammoth task in a small village. Only their closest friends know but as you might guess there is trouble brewing on the horizon.

‘You make it sound so simple, Drew. I feel like I’m living in a goldfish bowl at times after the anonymity of living in London. The pace of life is so fast there that people don’t have the time to worry about the small stuff and, often, they don’t give a damn anyway. It’s as if I’m doing something wrong, which is ridiculous at my age. I’m a grown woman and a free agent. And so is Ross.’

Drew tuts. ‘Ah, but the rumour mill loves talking about him, Kerra, and you — the returner. In a small community like this one, not much goes unnoticed,’ Drew continues. ‘You’ll need to be clever to keep something like this a secret.’

Drew is spot on and it’s not long before rumours begin to spread and with the arrival of an unwelcome presence in the village sparks begin to fly in earnest.

The location is lovely, described in evocative detail and there’s a good mix of realistic characters, both human and animal. I loved Ripley the cat and Bertie the miniature Schnauzer and the novel way their less than socially acceptable interactions were sorted out to everyone’s satisfaction. I liked Mrs Moyle, who runs the convenience store, and her husband Arthur as well as Kerra’s circle of friends.

Making Waves at Penvennan Cove is a steadily evolving story of life in a pretty Cornish village with its good, bad and sad times, and lots of community spirit.

When Kerra leaves her flat in London to move back to Cornwall she forgets how hard it is to keep things quiet in a small village. Her secret romance with Ross is getting more and more difficult to hide. Is staying with him going to do more damage to their families?

An enjoyable novel, the second in the series.

This story has lots of depth to it and it’s characters, I almost felt like I was reading a story adapted for screen or television. I could visualize everything and imagine tuning in to see a weekly series. I love being immersed in the lives and troubles of the people living in Penvennan Cove and all the troubles and successes that follow along with them....the writer has once again left us wanting more and I can not wait for her next adventures for these characters to materialize.

I would recommend this series to my friends or book club.

I received a free copy from NetGalley. I have given an honest review with my own opinions of this book

I really enjoyed this book. I couldn't put it down once I started reading it. Looking forward to reading more from this author.

The thing that strikes you about life in Penvennan Cove is the community which at times feels supportive and yet at others, feels the opposite. Rumour spreading is rife and at time this definitely gets in the way for Kerra. Romance is ratcheted up for this second in the series. I had to accept the premise that Kerra and Ross had to keep their affair a secret. I wasn't too sure, but I went along with it for the story.

Kerra is a wonderful character. She is full of independent thinking yet measures this with compassion and a social conscience. I always enjoy a series. You can read this as a standalone but would get so much more out of it if you read the series in order. The community activities drive the story forward. together with the stunning scenery. I am looking forward to seeing how the story devellops in book 3 of the series.

In short: romance in a Cornish community
Thanks to the publisher for a copy of the book

The fabulous Linn B. Halton is back with a gloriously romantic, immensely charming and highly enjoyable page-turner that will hold readers spellbound from start to finish: Making Waves at Penvennan Cove.

Life is good for Kerra Shaw. The thirty year old thinks she has finally landed on her feet with a job she loves helping small businesses in the local community, a wonderful circle of friends and family who are within walking distance and a relationship with her childhood sweetheart Ross which is going from strength to strength. Kerra cannot remember a time where she had been this happy – even though she must keep her relationship with Ross a secret because of a long-running feud between both of their families. Is Kerra and Ross’ relationship destined to remain shrouded in shame and guilt? Or is there light at the end of the tunnel and the two of them can start living happily ever after in Penvennan Cove?

With the feud between the two clans raging on, Kerra and Ross’ dream to start a life together is becoming more and more distant with each passing day. The last thing Kerra wants is to hurt the people she loves, but the more time she spends with Ross, the more she realizes that even thought of spending the rest of her life without him is unbearable. But when their secret is discovered, Kerra realises that the stakes have never been higher for her and Ross. Torn between duty to her family and her heart’s desire, Kerra has a difficult choice but to make, but will she make the right decision? Or is she about to make the worst mistake of her life?

A cosy, dreamy and charming romantic read, Linn B Halton will delight her readers with this heartfelt and emotional tale that is liberally sprinkled with warmth, pathos and humour. Making Waves at Penvennan Cove is a wonderfully atmospheric romance that is absolutely perfect for curling up with and readers will find themselves completely hooked by all the gripping goings-on in this beautiful Cornish community.

A gorgeous romantic drama that will tug at the heartstrings and make readers laugh out loud, Linn B. Halton’s unmissable new novel Making Waves at Penvennan Cove is another winner from this wonderful writer.

I really enjoyed this book!! Took me to a glorious place in Cornwall!! It seems that it's the 'the go to place' for love!!!! Kerra returns to her beloved Penvennan after working in London, and falls back in love with her Ross, that she left behind. But certain people cannot be told, but keeping it secret to not hurt anyone isn't as it turns out, the best way to go about it!!
Thoroughly enjoyable!! Loved it!!

A real delight of a novel set in beautiful Cornwall. Kerry returns to her home town leaving her flat in London, to hopefully have a happier and better lifestyle. She rediscovers how privacy is non existent in a small village and has to try and keep all her activities under cover until she feels ready to disclose them. Lots of uplifting and romantic plots that everyone will enjoy.

This is the second book in the Penvennan Cove series by Linn B. Halton, and as a follow-on from the previous book Coming Home to Penvennan Cove so really should not be read as a standalone. I really would recommend that you read the first book. This series is a gentle series dealing with life in a Cornish coastal village, with romance and intrigue perfectly interwoven into the heart of a warm and welcoming community.

I loved returning to Penvennan Cove. I really enjoyed the first book and wanted to find out more about the lives of Kerra and her lovely childhood sweetheart Ross (who gave me massive Ross Poldark in a contemporary setting vibes!). This book continues the story where the first book ended, with Kerra and Ross keeping their relationship under wraps because their families have been at war for years, and because they want Kerra’s father Eddie to accept that Ross is nothing like his father Jago. Unfortunately things do not run smoothly when Jago arrives in Penvennan Cove from his home in Spain.

The characters in this series are really beginning to feel very real to me. I love Sy and Tegan, Drew and Felicity, and Ripley the cat, but I loved how we got to see more of Mrs Moyle and Arthur in the village shop this time. Also I have to give an honorary mention to the beautiful Bertie, the miniature schnauzer. As the dog mum of two miniature schnauzers, he was a lovely part of the story, and I have to say I loved the creative way in which Kerra and her neighbour Drew resolved the issues between Ripley and Bertie.

The sense of community is so strong in this series, and I love the way in which Kerra is able to help out so much of the village with her creative ideas and financial backing of the community. I liked the way in which she comes up with ideas that will help the village, from buying a house to rent to a young local who is priced out of accommodation by the tourist market, to setting up a community hub website enabling the locals to help one another, and keep even the most house-bound of people connected.

This is such a lovely gentle romance, that feels very authentic, and as with real life, the course of true love never runs smoothly with stumbling blocks and intrigue to overcome along the way. This story provides massive feel-good vibes that left me desperate to know how things are going to progress in the third, eagerly anticipated book in the series.

I didn’t realise that this was a second in the series so, I found this book a little confusing at first and I had to get my head around all the characters and find out what had happened in the first book. After awhile I settled into it and enjoyed this sweet story set in Cornwall. It was such a lovely chick/lit book and I was sorry to finish it. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.

I have been a fan of Linn’s work for a while now. I haven’t quite read everything that she has written but I am getting there. ‘Making Waves At Penvennan Cove’ certainly sounded like one hell of a read and then some. So without further ado, I grabbed a cup of tea, grabbed my Kindle and settled down for what proved to be a delightful read. I thoroughly enjoyed reading ‘Making Waves At Penvennan Cove’ but more about that in a bit.
I was drawn into this story from the very beginning. The synopsis was enough to grab my attention and the story within the covers of the book sealed the deal as it were. I started to read the story only intending to read a couple of chapters but I just couldn’t put the book down and I ended up reading several chapters all in one go. My Kindle wasn’t exactly glued to my hand but it might as well have been because it travelled everywhere with me. I liked the character of Kerra so much that I just had to keep reading to find out if she got the ‘happy ever after ending’ that she so deserved. I became so wrapped up in the story that I lost all track of time and just how quickly I was getting through the book. All too quickly I reached the end of ‘Making Waves At Penvennan Cove’ and I had to say goodbye to Kerra and the other characters. I found ‘Making Waves At Penvennan Cove’ to be a gripping read, which kept me guessing and which kept me on the edge of my seat throughout.
‘Making Waves At Penvenna Cove’ is well written. The author has one of those writing styles that is easy to get used to and easy to get along with. In fact reading one of her books feels more like a chat between friends rather than reading a book. I hope that makes sense. For me, the story hits the ground running and maintained a fairly gentle pace throughout. This is actually the second book in the Penvennan Cove series. In my view it could be read perfectly well as a standalone but because I am a bit OCD, I would advise that you read the series in order. I love the very vivid and realistic way in which Linn describes Penvennan Cove. It would be easy to imagine that I was there with the sound of the crashing of the waves and the sun on my face.
In short, I thoroughly enjoyed reading ‘Making Waves At Penvennan Cove’ and I would recommend this book to other readers. I will certainly be reading more of Linn’s work in the future. The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a very well deserved 5* out of 5*.

Thank you to NetGalley and Aria Fiction for the opportunity to read and review an ARC of Making Waves at Penvennan Cove by Linn B. Halton.

Kerra Shaw has recently returned from London to her home village in Cornwall, following the death of her mother and as a support to her father. Kerra is a successful businesswoman and is hoping to invest and support small businesses in the community, whilst maintaining her currently secret relationship with Ross. Only a handful of people know about their relationship, and until the feud between their families ends, Kerra would like it to remain a secret, but this is Penvannan and nothing stays a secret for long.

This is the second book in the series, which I didn’t realise at first and although other reviewers have mentioned that it shouldn’t be read as a stand-alone, I’m not sure it really matters, I found the book very slow, to begin with, and not much seemed to happen for at least the first third of the book and I did even consider not finishing it. However, don’t let that put you off. For the rest of the book, I was hooked, and I keenly turned the pages to discover what was going to happen next in Penvennan Cove.

The author was adept with her descriptions of the Cornish village life, with its fishermen’s cottages and quirky village characters. There were many times when Kerra popped into the village bakery and my mouth watered at the mention of the delicious cakes!

This is the first book I have read by Linn B. Halton but I am looking forward to reading more. If you love a happy-ever-after story, set in a cosy, English, seaside village, then you’ll enjoy Making Waves at Penvennan Cove.
