I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Bits and pieces of Barbara’s story resonate in so many lives. I am inspired and excited for the guidance to push through difficulties in my own life and work experience. Barbara‘s writing style is easy and conversational, I didn’t want to put the book down! I would recommend this book to any age, from a teenager to an adult in the midst of their career.

Truly enjoyed reading Potential! I could relate to the key people and situations in Barbara’s life, and found her choices and perspectives so refreshingly positive; her suggested actions doable. That she wrote and shared all this wisdom is yet another example of her fearlessness and a model of taking decisive steps to encourage success in others.

Written in memoir style, but with lessons that apply to readers in different circumstances, this book is practical and inspiring. Overall, it's one I'd recommend. Thanks to NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

A business memoir with a difference.
I don't usually read business memoirs, so Barbara Polk's book was a delightful surprise. What a life!
I am not a woman of colour, but I have worked in large companies and academic institutions, so I do have an understanding of the dynamics of management systems and procedures.
The key learning points for me was the underlying message that you can leverage every aspect of your life, good and bad, to have the future you deserve.
Barbara:
* focused on what she wanted to accomplish
* was aware of her strengths
* amplified those areas rather than wasting time on sub-optimal tasks
* valued her time.
Chapter 15 - Facing your fears and Chapter 16 - Wheel of Fortune - were particularly useful.
Recommended.
