Awesome Animals Series

Awesome Animals is a children’s non-fiction series. It explores the animal kingdom to gently introduce our little ones to body diversity. Each book features an animal which is missing something that we're taught to expect should be there. But these animals don’t just thrive despite that absence, they thrive because of it.

The Awesome Animals series uses a dyslexia-friendly type-face.

With dyslexia, we often focus on the challenges - difficulty reading. But thanks to the way the dyslexic brain is built, people with dyslexia are often creative, intuitive and highly successful. In other words, those people aren't thriving despite their dyslexic brain, they are thriving because of it.

Other books in the series:

● Snakes Have No Legs

● Pigs Never Sweat

● Geckos Don’t Blink

● Cows Have No Top Teeth

● Turtles Have Hidden Ears

This is a great book for early independent readers! Not only is the subject matter interesting and entertaining, it's also told in simple language with fun, engaging illustrations. The text is broken up into small chunks with varying formats, so there's no intimidating "wall of text" that can throw beginning readers. The text includes extra spacing and a bottom-heavy font with no extra fanfare, so this is a book that could be used both for typical readers and readers with dyslexia or other information processing divergences without the need for a "different" or "special" book. This can mean a lot to emerging readers at that very critical time in their academic and social development. This would be an awesome addition to elementary school and classroom libraries! Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!

My son LOVES animals. This book is adorable and fun to read with children! Most animal information books are in the form of encyclopedias. It was nice to learn something new while not having to read 500 pages.

Geckos Don't Blink is another book in the fantastic Awesome Animals series. It is the third one that myself and my four year old son have read together and they are all fantastic (although I think this one is my favourite!) and we have learnt something new from each one of them. Thank you to NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for my ARC.

Geckos Don't Blink is a very cute and insightful story! The Awesome Animals series is a fantastic collection of short Children's stories that are not only fun to read but also that helps to discover new things without them feeling like a school lesson. This was my first, and it didn't disappoint at all. On the contrary, even at my age, it made me discover new things. The drawings are super cute, the cover of this one was what attracted me in the first place. Thank you Netgalley and BooksGoSocial for this eARC of 'Geckos Don't Blink'!

Each page is colorful and the art is sure to stir up the curiosity in little kids to know more about these funny-looking animals. In fact, even adults might learn more with it! Overall, a great book to help children learn more about the environment that surrounds them, helping them develop special interest in the animals they must work to protect in the future.

This was such a fun and informative book about geckos. If your child likes learning about new animals this whole collection will be a great asset for them. The text is short and to the point - you’re still able to learn something new, but don’t have too much reading to do. The illustrations were bright and well done as well. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this advanced copy.

Little known facts like this always spark interest in young children and this is no exception! I personally had no idea that geckos don't blink so this was an interesting book all around.

Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review! This is a charming and informational book that teaches children about geckos (and why they don't blink!). The text is short and simple, making it easy for children to follow along. The illustrations are absolutely adorable and engaging, sure to capture the attention of a young audience.

Another delightful tale in the wacky and wonderful series about interesting animal facts. This book has simple, yet adorable illustrations. It’s just disgusting enough to interest the most reluctant of readers and fascinating enough for the budding young scientists. Tills has crafted an entire series of books tackling the most obscure and interesting scientific facts about animals. They are entertaining and educational, which can be a tricky balance to maintain in children’s books. This one covers the fact that geckos cannot blink, and instead, lick their own eyeballs to keep them moist and clean. The text is easy enough for younger readers to tackle independently and also has some great vocabulary that can be used for lessons. This is one that classrooms will want to add to the science shelf along with the other books in the series

I’m sorry, I could not get this book to work in the NetGalley app or Kindle. I saw half of a few pages and they looked adorable though. I’m going to rate it four stars to not drag down your ratings and because the peeks I did see looked great. .

It’s not often that children’s picture books teaches me information I hadn’t known. The Awesome Animals series seems to have changed this! We tried both Geckos Don’t Blink and Cows Have No Top Teeth by Kelly Tills. We started with Geckos Don’t Blink, which discussed different animals and how their eyes work. I was unaware of most of these, and had a great talk with my kids on why they blink. My kids then decided to act the book out, and I was able to watch them excessively blink for about 30 min, and try to lick their own eye. I wish I took pictures!

This is another adorable book by Kelly TIlls. Children will love the cute and colourful illustrations and will giggle at the humour. throughout the book. They won't even realize how much they are learning about geckos (and other animals) at the same time. I love how Tills describes something "groovy" about geckos in the beginning of the book, to asking what is "groovy" about the reader at the end of the book? Another great book for storytime! I would like to thank #NetGalley and #BooksGoSocial for allowing me to read an advanced copy of this book, in exchange for my honest review. *Technical issue: Some of the words were cut off when I read this book on my Kindle, and I couldn't download it to my laptop without adding a new app.

Cute black & white illustrations on bright backgrounds and sparse text, mixed with strange animal facts, make this book a must for Storytimes. Geckos Don't Blink has a few facts about other animals, but the focus is on geckos. Facts are presented in a fun "call and answer" format - "Can a gecko close their eyes to sleep? No! They hide their heads to sleep." This would be a huge hit with kids who get to participate in the narrative. Must read for Storytime.

I think this is the cutest book ever. I really love it. It's got a sense of humor in an unexpected way, and it helps kids and adults learn a really cool fact. Honestly the only complaint I have is that I wish there were more of them 😂 so I hope that the they write more. Not to mention that I really liked the contrasting of colors for the black and white and multicolor being on the same page. It just looks very cool. For such simple drawings it is eye catching and really draws you in. Also, this book is great for parents because when they're running short on time because they are getting their kids to bed late, they can still read their child a bedtime story and it's super short and fascinating and fun. ❤️ I genuinely believe kids would go crazy for this book despite how simple and short it is. Thank you #netgalley for allowing me the opportunity to read this very cute very funny book in exchange for an honest review

Now she scrolls down the kids section and picks the ones she wants me to read her. This book really caught her attention right away. She was so excited when we got approved to read it and wanted to start it right away. There was no waiting til bedtime. She was very excited to learn that this is part of a very awesome animal series. In each book the kids learn how each animal has something very special about its body. All of the pages are brightly colored and very cool. She loved looking at the pictures as much as she enjoyed the story. I loved hearing her giggle and answer some of the questions in the book. Each page is short and very entertaining . Pawpaw and i enjoyed the story as much as the girls did. Since downloading the book we have now read it 18 times. Jojo is 4 and Zoey is 6. Both enjoyed it very much. Children and adults alike will enjoy this great book filled with colorful illustrations and laughs galore ! It is a really great thought-provoking read. They learn and have fun doing it. I will be recommending this series to Zoeys teacher. Geckos Don't Blink is a cute and entertaining nonfiction picturebook. While I knew most of the information provided, I do think it will be new to the target audience. I found the phrasing of chosen information, and the delightful illustrations, work together well to capture and hold the attention of the youngest readers. I also like the framing of the book, and series as a whole, that everyone and everything has something weird and wonderful about them.
