Awesome Animals Series

Awesome Animals is a children’s non-fiction series. It explores the animal kingdom to gently introduce our little ones to body diversity. Each book features an animal which is missing something that we're taught to expect should be there. But these animals don’t just thrive despite that absence, they thrive because of it.

The Awesome Animals series uses a dyslexia-friendly type-face.

With dyslexia, we often focus on the challenges - difficulty reading. But thanks to the way the dyslexic brain is built, people with dyslexia are often creative, intuitive and highly successful. In other words, those people aren't thriving despite their dyslexic brain, they are thriving because of it.

Other books in the series:

* Snakes Have No Legs

* Pigs Never Sweat

* Geckos Don’t Blink

* Cows Have No Top Teeth

* Turtles Have Secret Ears

This would be a great read-to-me book for toddlers/young preschoolers and an excellent early independent reading book for older kids. The language is simple and clear and the topic is quite interesting. There are several interactive questions to keep students engaged in the story.

The illustrations are fun and lively and enhance the text nicely. The book appears to use a special font that has extra spacing and some bottom-heavy shading which may help dyslexic or other neurodivergent readers process more easily. This would be fantastic addition to preschool and elementary school and classroom libraries!

Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!

A cute little book from the Awesome Animals series.

Nature is very creative and so is the author, so these picture books always generate lively discussions in the family about various animals, body parts, and secret skills. With lots of giggles! I honestly recommend these books to my fellow parents and their children.

Many thanks to NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for an Advance Reading Copy.

This was such a sweet book, and the illustration of the turtle extremely cute. I loved the bright background colors, that attract attention. Before picking this up, even I was not aware that turtles can indeed hear sounds. Bonus for the fun, playful way in which the author led readers to knowing that turtles don't have visible ears. The anatomy of a year (in very little detail that was just enough) was easy to understand, and the comparisons were relatable. Perfect pick for friends of animal obsessed kids.

Turtles Have Secret Ears is another title of the Awesome Animals series that I read thanks to Netgalley and BooksGoSocial. Just like Geckos don't blink, Turtles Have Secret Ears is a fun and insightful story that I think children would love. The drawings were super cute. I would just point out that maybe the bright colours would be too aggressive for some children, especially children with autism. Otherwise, I would encourage parents to read this book to their children.

Having a little trouble being able to read this properly but I can make out the majority!
The facts and entertaining, really aimed at children’s interests. The pictures are delightful and the dyslexia friendly font is well thought out. Will absolutely be purchasing a copy to use in my classroom. Many thanks for the sneak peek.

A simple, fun read for young children about ears and turtles' super power super secret ears. This would make an entertaining read aloud for young ones. Images are cute and not distracting. Large, color-filled panels bring the focus on the words and content. Learn a little about different types of ears while you're at it with this short, playful read. Open-ended question ending can lead to great classroom/group discussion/ice breaker activity.

First, the illustrations are super cute on bold colored pages. The words are simple, and as mentioned in the summary, are printed in a dyslexia friendly font, and I think that's so important to have that sort of accommodation out there in the world.

As for the content of the book, I think it's super cute, and a perfect read for young/beginner readers. It teaches a simple lesson regarding how hearing works for turtles, and how it's different to us humans.

This is a cute and educational book about Turtle ears. I learned things I didn't know about turtle ears and what kinds of sounds they can hear. The illustrations are super cute, too. I would definitely read this to my baby.

Turtles Have Secret Ears is a book that explains turtle ears and how turtles hear. This book is perfect for any child who is curious about turtles or who has ever asked the question "if turtles don't have ears, can they hear?" because the mystery will be solved. This book has cute illustrations and explains how turtles hear in a way that is not confusing for younger children. I used this book in a small group lesson when the class was discussing animal adaptations. It worked nicely because turtles have ears which work perfectly underwater. I will definitely purchase this book for my classroom science library. .

"Elephants can definitely not hide their ears." -From Turtles Have Secret Ears

4.5 stars

Bright, bold, eye-catching pages will keep children's attention easily as informative information about turtle's ears fills the text. The last page is a mini let down, with just yellow text on a white page, but it is still a great read overall.

Thank you to the author, the publisher, and NetGalley for a copy in exchange for an honest review.

Pros: I'm constantly looking for books to share with the kids in my life, and I love this series of books about awesome animals. This book is just the right amount of silly, and it would be a fantastic read aloud book for a preschool class because it is interactive. It also teaches children about the sense of hearing.

My favorite thing about this series is its use of dyslexia-friendly type-face. This feature was something I did not know to look for before reading this series. I so appreciate when publishers make reading more accessible to children.

Cons: None that I can think of!

Thank you to NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for the opportunity to read this book!

I had a little trouble reading this, but was overall able to figure out what was written. I loved the vivid colors and illustrations, so that made this children’s book very fun. More importantly, it was also very factual! The dyslexia- friendly font is also very well thought out.

I would love to purchase for my friends with kiddos, or give to classrooms.
