Description

A powerful story as seen through the eyes of an American veteran who in 2016 during the bloody civil war with ISIS flew alone to Iraq.

There, he was able to join the Kurdish militia, YPG as a combat medic sneaking into Rojava, Syria. These are pages are his personal story and htey take you to the front lines of battle in a way that will make you smell the dirt.

This book tears away the thin vale of war in a terrifyingly haunting way.

"I, River Rainbow O'Mahoney Hagg Tekoser Azad, just a name only. A shadow who never honestly looked at myself. Never knew myself and so I died alone and ignorant. Buried alive in Manbij, Syria, like so many before me and so many more to come. "Why now? Please?" There is a deep sadness in realizing I had wasted my whole life not getting to know me before there was no me. Too late! A deep and penetrating sadness of all I wasted when I though I had all the time in the world and I did not. So, like an idiot, I danced right up to the edge of the end without ever even knowing it."

"This is the place where the disappeared aren't missing."

Advance Praise

"I have never read anything like Where is Ser (The Brave Lion). It is, as the French say, a crie de coeur, a cry of the heart... but absolutely non-indulgent, totally real and amazingly powerful. It puts the reader in the zone, downright scary, but also with the dispassionate observation of the witness." -Samual Jacob, professor at UCLA

"It is rare to find a voice so raw and pure, wildly courageous if not dangerous, while as warm, heartfelt, and loving as a human being can be. This chaotic spirit ride is only found in the real world, a product of extraordinary element and circumstance, able to create such an enigma of an individual as River Rainbow, and thus the story of Where is Ser." -Casey Engelhardt, Executive Producer at Vice Media

In this modern age of digital technology and sterile images of war on the TV from the latest laser guided bomb being dropped through a window, this book gives you a real taste of boots on the ground front line warfare.
Its brutal, honest, and gives the reader a glimpse of the reality of war.
The author completed a six month tour working as a combat medic with the YPG in Syria. Facing daily struggles from constant combat and a lack of all supplies including food, he went on to complete the tour but not without loss, both losing friends in combat and also a huge part of his mental health.
If you want to read what front line combat is really like then read this book.
An excellent read, compelling and totally engrossing, I recommend anyone interested in warfare to buy a copy for your library shelf today!
