Advance Praise

I read How Our Skin Sparkles to my two young boys and thought I would share their opinions as well as my own. My six-year-old enjoyed the message and said it reminded him of something he'd done in school. He lined up with his classmates, and they each held their arms out and observed how different and beautiful everyone's skin color was. I liked that this story reiterated what I work so hard to teach my children about being kind and accepting of all types of people. My son also enjoyed the description at the end of the book of the snack that the mother made for her children. He enjoys trying new foods from all over the world. My children liked the colorful illustrations, too. I loved the dedication at the beginning of the book, and I felt it summarized the central theme. "The moment you accept yourself and others, as they are, you grow exponentially." I believe this is a message that the whole world needs to hear right now. - Karen Hesson for Readers' Favorite

Acceptance seems to be a hard lesson to learn. Whether for ourselves, or for others as we struggle with differences. We may question them, but we shouldn't fear them. What a colorful beauty we create when we all stand together. Each one adding their own special sparkle and hue to the spectrum. This story provides self-empowerment through acceptance, and discovers there are often more similarities than there are differences. A very comforting and stabilizing reality! - Darleen Wohlfeil for Midwest Book Review

What a cute story about how we should be loving the kind to everyone, regardless of how we look on the outside. That our skin sparkles no matter if we are blue, white, dark skinned etc. As a teacher of young students, it’s important to instill that “no matter what we look on the outside we are all equal on the inside.” I will add this book to my read aloud collection. Thank you NetGalley for the ARC.

I loved this book. With is wonderful message about how differences make us special but on the inside we are all the same and that is what really matters.

Thank you to NetGalley and Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op for providing the ARC to me in exchange for my honest review.

Quite an amazing and significant relevant storybook for young readers who are living amongst friends and family of different family backgrounds.

The story explains well the concept of how we can proudly flaunt our skin colour. It's nothing to be ashamed of. I appreciate the author's thoughtful inclusion of Lord Krishna's story.

The illustrations are amazing and we love loud colours too!

An amazing read.

Thank you, author and Netgalley, for the advance review copy.

Aarav loves Lego dinosaurs and eating snacks with his little sister Sharvi one day Aarav comes home and asks his mum why does his skin look different to other children in his class and his mum explains how our skin sparkles
This is such a great book to teach children that everyone is the same on the inside and explains about why people have different colour skin and I loved how the story rhymes and the wonderful illustrations highly recommend

How Our Skin Sparkles is a great book about inclusivity and loving who you are, no matter what your skin color. I appreciated the different types of children portrayed, and information about the Indian culture. I wish the font was a little more readable.

"How Our Skin Sparkles" is a children's picture book story about why different people have different colored skin. It is told in rhyme and has beautiful full color drawings. Teaches about melanin and pigmentation and that we are all how God has made us, and we are all equal regardless of skin color. It also gives some Indian cultural references and foods. A good book for a young elementary classroom.
