OH MY GOD THIS BOOK IS ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE! i was hooked right from the start of the book and the twists and turns made my head spin. i can honestly see this book being the YA book of 2023 - it is honestly incredible.

this is now one of my all time favourite books and gabi burton has such an unbelievable talent with her writing. the world building was so easy to follow and it was not overwhelming at all which i normally find with fantasy books. i absolutely adored saoirse and how morally grey she is (i am such a sucker for morally grey characters). she may be very murderous but i LOVE her. the dynamic between hayes and saoirse was amazing - they have the grumpy/sunshine energy and that is one of my fave tropes. this book has it all: slow burn, badass FMC, betrayal, antiheroes, it is definitely worth the read.

ALSO THAT ENDING????? I NEED BOOK TWO RIGHT NOW! i am honestly so sad that i won’t have a physical copy of the book until june because i want it so badly. thank you so much for allowing me to read this book prior to publication. burton is such a raw talent and i cannot wait to see what happens next.

it’s perfect for fans of dark YA. Huge thanks to the publisher for the chance to read and review this ARC, via NetGalley.

Thank you so much NetGalley for this incredible ARC!!

Wow!! I am completely and utterly in LOVE with this book 😍

I have read books about the Fae in the past and while they have been enjoyable, they mostly lacked depth and were generally forgettable. But Sing Me To Sleep is so different from any other Fae book I have read before!

It was so full of depth and the world was rich with history and lore. The magic system was elemental, with Fae as well as other magical creatures. I really really loved how Saoirse could taste emotions. It meant I could truly feel each and every interaction of hers.

Prince Hayes was my other favourite character. I loved the interactions between him and Saoirse. The romance was so perfect, and the plot and side plots were totally gripping! I wish I could tell you more but I can’t without revealing too much.

Ultimately, this book was perfection. I am so happy I discovered Gabi Burton!

So without further ado, make sure you read this book when it officially comes out!

Is that an order?

Yes. Yes it is.

Wow! I absolutely devoured this book. I loved the main character’s struggle between good and bad. I could not guess the reveals or ending and that’s a good thing for me! By the ending I’m assuming there is a second book coming, and you can bet that I’ll be keen to read this as soon as I can.

Sing Me To Slep is a debut fantasy book by Gabi Burton.

Only fae, witches and humans live in the Keirdre kingdom. The fae are the superior ones led by the Royal family. Witches are second but mostly banished to the outskirts of the kingdom, and humans are the lowest class, working as servants. And then there is our main heroine Saoirse who is a siren in disguise as an ikatus (a fae in the looks only but with no real power or affinity for the elements) because sirens are dangerous, and their existence is illegal...... and she's the only one left.

Saoirse is someone, who lies about her identity to avoid being executed, keeps to herself, has only one friend (and she would like to keep it that way), is very hard-working, and works as an assassin for mercenaries during the nights for extra money for her family... the catch of being the assassin? While she needs the money for her sister's school tuition, she can't deny she likes to kill and needs to kill to stay sane - it's siren's nature to kill because the pull is too strong. And she's been battling this pull for the majority of her life.

Saoirse is the number one graduate soldier from the most prestigious barracks in the kingdom with a clear vision of her dream job but instead, they offer her a guard position in the Palace for Crown Prince Hayes. She doesn't want to work for the Royals, but when she finds a blackmail letter in the hands of her beloved sister with a royal seal on it, she has no other choice than to accept the position. She needs to find out who is blackmailing her for information about the barrier surrounding the kingdom, the supposed extinct creatures, and the Royals. As she balances her jobs as an assassin and the guard, she's slowly uncovering the kingdom's secrets.

And the prince seems to be fascinated by her for some reason. The more she tries to shake him off, the more he tries to get closer. And her resolve to hate all the Royals and keep away from the prince slowly crumbles the more time she spends with him and gets to know him better. He's different from the rest of the Royal family - he's kind, compassioned, tries to understand, isn't prejudiced against other races, and most importantly, he listens to Saoirse and tries to make changes with his limited power. They also need to join hands and find the killer of his friend...

Saoirse is torn between her duties as a guard (and investigator), her job as an assassin, and a hand uncovering the secrets for the blackmailer while trying not to get caught and protecting her loved ones. The only problem? Everything seems to connect to everything... And Saoirse needs to choose which side to join.

This book has the potential to be a great new series! It sucks you in very quickly and doesn't let you out. You can't put it down, and by the end, you can't believe what happened. It has everything I love: a great story, interesting characters and world, a strong morally grey female character with battling sides, magic, magical creatures, intrigues, betrayals where I haven't seen them coming, a prince easy to love, and a mystery to uncover. I also appreciate the queer side characters.

I look forward to the second book because I need answers! But don't worry - while the story continues in book two, the first one doesn't have a cliffhanger.

I would recommend it to fans of sirens and readers who enjoyed The Cruel Prince and To Kill A Kingdom.

Thank you Netgalley and Hodder & Stoughton for granting me access to an eARC in exchange for my honest review.

Mesmerizing faes, sirens, enchanting siren song - you will feel pulled into this story right from the beginning!
Sing Me to Sleep was beautiful, terrific, magical and extremely unique!

The main character Saoirse is able to taste emotions - how cool is that? In this magical world the Fae rules, and other mythical creatures and people are taken as lesser beings. Except Saoirse, who is a siren - the last of her kind, supposedly disappered. She is an assassin and ends up working where the prince is or for him. You can expect the shock, truly.

Loved that the main character was morally grey, dubious and often portrayed flawed. I really enjoyed the dynamic between the characters and that I could never just pick a side.

Looking forward to the sequel - thank you so much for Hodderscape for the eARC!

Sing Me to Sleep is a wickedly alluring debut from author Gabi Burton. Saoirse is a siren who lies about her identity to escape execution and to protect her family. When a mysterious threat against her sister arises. she must step out of the shadows and take a dangerous job to hunt down the blackmailer, all the while risking the exposure of her secrets. Working for the crown prince Hayes, Saoirse must choose between keeping her secrets or keeping the boy she is beginning to fall for.

Oh my freaking god I loved this book! I read it in under 24 hours it ws so damn good. A captivating story of hidden identities, secrets, betrayals and a slow burn romance to die for, this is a new YA favourite of mine. I cannot wait for the sequel and will absolutely be re-reading this. Saoirse is the perfect morally-grey anti-hero that you cannot help but root for. She will do anything for her family, risking her own life for her sister. She is the perfect grump of the grumpy/sunshine romance but deep down she cares, a lot.

The world building is perfect, the court and political intrigue is excellent. This book is perfect for fans of To Kill a Kingdom and All the Stars and Teeth. If you like murderous sirens and swoony princes, this book is for you! Go preorder!

Thank you so much to NetGalley and Hodderscape for the e-arc.

Thank you Netgalley and Hodder & Stoughton for the ARC of this book.

Sing me to sleep is an adventurous, magical ya fantasy with a morrally gray FMC. Saoirse Sorkova is the last siren in Keirdre and has to hide who she is. Both because her species are hunted and extinct, and because she has a side job as an assassin. When she starts working with the prince in the palace, she suddenly finds herself hunting down a killer who happens to be herself.

I loved this book. The characters were amazing. The plot was so good. Sometimes, you didn't really know who to root for or feel compassionate for. And i kept trying to guess who was supposed to be the villain or at least one of them. I can't wait for book 2.

I’ve honestly been indecisive about giving 5 🌟 to this book because I honestly didn’t like the romance, but I loved everything else that in the end I decided for the max rate. First of all, I definitely need more books with mermaids because they make incredibly interesting and complicated characters. Saoirse knows she is a monster and that killing is wrong, but her nature makes it inevitable for her. She is very grumpy and protective with the people she loves even if it is almost impossible to trust others completely because she can’t reveal her true nature. Mermaids shouldn’t be present inside the barrier and she definitely doesn’t want to be discovered by the handsome prince that has given her a job as his personal guard. I say that I didn’t like the romance because basically for the prince it is love at first sight and he does everything to please her without the real connection that should be created in a relationship. Plus he is not even a prince that does everything to fight his father’s injustices, he know they are wrong but he doesn’t even care enough to act on it.. Saoirse on the other hand is a character I love because she is so very real, she struggles to contain her nature, she fails but you can see the good in her and you are inevitably connected. Of course, plot twists make the story even more good and it’s the kind of book where there’s not clear good and evil, everything has a mix of both as it happens in life and that’s what attracted me to it.
I really want to read the sequel because I’m curious to see more of the world in which the story is set.

I looooved this book! I never knew who was trustworthy. The main character is flawed (literally kills people) and the author made me love her anyway. Great writing and world building. A very fast paced and enjoyable read. Not a dull moment

WOW WOW WOW!

Thank you so much to NetGalley and the publisher for an Advanced Reader Copy.

I don’t think I have the words to explain how much I LOVED this book. This is honestly my favourite book of the year so far and I am already so excited for book two.

The world building is incredible, it eases you into it with such amazing descriptions but also moves the plot along at the same time.

Within the kingdom of Kierdre you have Fae being Water, Earth, Air and Fire, witches, sirens and lots more which play a crucial part in the story.

The main character Saoirse is your stereotypical morally grey character who does everything she can to prove herself worthy. The other main character is Hayes, a prince, who gives off the most incredible golden retriever energy. I love all the characters and the dynamic between them.

I would definitely recommend this book if you love:

Sing Me To Sleep is a wonderfully magical new YA fantasy featuring sirens, romance and lots of action! It is Gabi Burton's debut book and I really enjoyed it. The morally grey main character, Saoirse, is a complex and entertaining character. The romance was very sweet and Hayes was the most adorable love interest ever! I loved the world building and thought it was very captivating. I don't read much YA these days so I found this book the be very refreshing and enjoyable.

Saoirse is a siren, but her people have been hunted and killed to the point of extinction by the wicked Fae king so her identity must remain a secret. However, a blackmail plot leads to her acting as bodyguard to the spoiled Prince and caught in a web of lies that she may struggle to untangle herself from ...

This book is such a brilliant, absorbing fantasy! The world building is perfect, and I fell head over heels for Saoirse, the morally grey, conflicted and nuanced MC of my dreams. Absolutely and whole heartedly loved this book.

{AD|GIFTED} SING ME TO SLEEP tells the tale of the last siren in Keirdre and her new role as bodyguard to the Crown Prince. Saoirse appears to be irritable, aloof, and arrogant but she represses a lot of her emotions due to self-loathing and the numerous secrets she is forced to keep. She's also a murderer (and sometimes an assassin) thanks to her irresistible Siren nature luring her to kill. It's hard not to feel sorry for a child/teenager left without any kind of training to control her impulses though.

I loved the relationship between Saoirse and her sister Rain. Both are adopted by a Fae couple and both are viewed as lesser beings. The dynamic between Saoirse and her parents was also fascinating as they both love and, at times, fear her because of the choices she makes. I look forward to seeing if this is developed more in the next book as they sometimes fail to realise how difficult it must be for Saoirse to navigate life as a Siren without any guidance or even any knowledge of the history of her species.

As Saoirse grows closer to Prince Hayes, she also finds herself in danger of losing her heart. Together they search for a murderer threatening the royal family which is made all the more difficult as Saoirse is the culprit. The reader knows her secrets will eventually be revealed and this drives the tension as you turn the pages. The final chapters set the story for book two and it looks like the world-building will be expanding as Saoirse travels far away on a mission. This was an action-packed story populated by memorable characters and rich world-building.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC of this book.

Actual rating 4,5 stars but rounded up.
I absolutely loved this book! It's dark, it's fun, it's sexy (in a YA way, don't worry) and it's mysterious.
I'm always a fan of fantasy worlds that are filled with different magical beings, and here we have fae, witches, (humans) and a siren. Yes, one, because Saoirse is the last siren, and so she needs to hide her identity.
Hidden identity is definitely the main trope of this book, not only our FMC hides who she is, but also some other powerful players.
Other tropes include grumpy/sunshine (she's the grump, he's the sunshine) and bodyguard/royal (she's the bodyguard, he's the royal), I especially loved the latter and that it was genderbent.

Saoirse is an amazing FMC, I loved her so much! She's grumpy, she's serious, she's very protective of those she loves, and she's careful and smart.
Hayes is also great, a fun-loving prince who also has his deeper sides and who's willing to learn how to be a better ruler.
I really enjoyed their relationship dynamic.
There are also lots of side characters that added a lot to the story.

The plot was engaging and filled with twists, it didn't take long for me to get sucked into the story and once I did, it was hard to put down.

The writing is also good, there were some word choices that got a bit repetitive (I've never read the word lightbrained so many times in my life) and some... weird sentences, but I guess a lot of that comes down to the book being YA. Overall, I enjoyed the writing style though.

This book has a lot less water action that I was led to believe. I personally didn't mind that but I definitely think everyone who thinks they'll get lots of underwater and mermaid/siren action definitely needs to readjust their expectations.

There were some small aspects that I didn't fully love, but really nothing worth mentioning or pointing out, especially since it's YA and I'm an adult and I think the "bulk" of my issues came down to that, so I'm rounding up to 5 stars.

I had the best time with this book and highly recommend!

“I want the best,” he says. “If the best is willing, I want her.”

This book had got my attention but I was still not sure what to expect of with when I picked it up! It was, however, a gorgeous surprise and I finished it in one day!

Saoirse is a siren in hiding, pretending to be something else and training harder than anyone else to come up top of her year and get a good rank position! Oh, and she has a side job: assassin for hire! With her siren abilities and blood call, she’s the perfect temptress. But all she does is for one and only one goal: to protect her little sister, whom she loves the most in the entire world.

Prince Hayes is everything but powerful! In fact, he’s almost a decoy of a Prince, for if the King could, he would delete his younger son from the family tree. You do fall for Hayes, he’s such a good guy (or is he?)!

This author’s writing is super compelling and magical and this book is full of adventure, action, betrayals, intrigues and passion! This is definitely an enemies-to-lovers and slow burn and I urgently need someone to read it so we can discuss the end! I was all in for Hayes until the very end, where it made me think “oh, could he? Nah, he’s a good boy, he wouldn’t… but would could he?”; without further spoiler, and I hope that was teasing enough… please go read the book!!

Keep an eye out on my bookstagram (@maria_bookshelf) during the release day for my post 😍!

How to adequately put into words how much I loved this book? I think the fact that I devoured it in about four hours attests to that fact, but I shall try to elaborate on exactly what it was that captured me so.
Saoirse is just my kinda girl. Ruthless. Fierce. Not afraid to tell the truth and own her achievements. She had me hooked from page one and I could not get enough. Then Hayes was introduced and I was smitten. The romance between them is top notch, and unlike in a lot of books I've read recently, their relationship and trust actually felt like it had something to it. There is an instant attraction and interest there, but GB really spent time letting them get to know each other which I cherished. The dialogue between them was fun and sassy and even vulnerable at times, and overall written perfectly.
There was even a plot twist at the end that absolutely floored me, which is no easy feat.
I'm so impressed by GBs debut, she writes like she's been publishing for years, creating a world that's dangerous and alluring all in one. Needless to say, I'm eagerly awaiting book two

My Thoughts: This has taken me far too long to remember to review. This is an absolutely fantastic book. All those magical and mystical elements hooked me from the start. I adored Saoirse and her moral ambiguity. She may be a murderer, but I adore her. The interaction between Hayes and Saoirse was fantastic; they have the grumpy/sunshine energy, one of my favourite cliches. This book has it all: a slow burn, badass FMC, treachery, and antiheroes. It is well worth reading.

I’ve read a few books on the Fae in the past, and while they were entertaining, they needed depth and were largely forgettable.
It had a lot of complexity, and the world was filled with history and culture. The elemental magic system included Fae and other magical creatures. I adored Saoirse’s ability to taste emotions. It meant I could genuinely feel every interaction she had.
My other favourite character was Prince Hayes. I enjoyed his interactions with Saoirse. The relationship was flawless, and the plot and subplots were utterly engrossing! I wish I could tell you more, but I can’t because it would reveal too much. Saoirse keeps to herself, has just one friend ), is incredibly hardworking, and works as an assassin for mercenaries during the nights for additional money for her family… the catch of being an assassin? While she needs the money for her sister’s school fees, she can’t deny she enjoys and requires killing to be sane – it’s a siren’s nature to kill because the draw is too strong. And she’s been fighting this attraction for most of her life. Saoirse is the top graduate soldier from the kingdom’s most prestigious barracks, with a clear picture of her dream job, but they offer her a guard position at the Palace for Crown Prince Hayes. She is reluctant to work for the Royals, yet when she discovers a blackmail letter with a royal seal in the hands of her loving sister, she has no choice but to accept the post. She needs to figure out who is blackmailing her for information regarding the kingdom’s barrier, the purported extinct species, and the Royals. She progressively uncovers the kingdom’s secrets as she balances her roles as an assassin and a guard.

Looking forward to the sequel – thank you so much for Hodderscape for the eARC!

Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for the early access to this book.

I didn’t think I’d enjoy this book, as it sounded like a very predictable YA thrope.

I did however end up enjoying it, and I hope the next one will be just as good!

The story was compelling, and the characters had deep archs’ and some of them kept you guessing until the end.

I can’t wait to get a pretty special edition of this to add to my collection.

I’ve procrastinated with writing this review due to exams, so sadly it won’t be as in depth as I had hoped and as this book deserves. But it was one of the best YA books I’ve read this year and I cannot wait to see where the story goes. It’s a spectacular YA fantasy from a strong new voice in the genre (and a very refreshing one too).

Saoirse is the last siren in a kingdom where it is illegal to be one. She hides in plain sight, as a Fae soldier-in-training during the day and at night she is an assassin, not only to make money but to feed her urge to kill. When a blackmailer threatens her sister, she becomes the prince's bodyguard to uncover who it is. In spite of her hate of the Royals, she starts to like Prince Hayes. Until he tasks her to find a killer and that killer is her!

In-your-face honesty and fierceness season the instantly appealing 1st person POV. Compassion, melancholy and a sense of justice are also mixed in. The narrative is intimate and in synch with what she is feeling and her thoughts. Her siren tendencies, the way she tastes emotions and her murderous inclination are described aptly. This is a passionate story of a protagonist we should consider a villain, a beautiful 'monster' to be afraid of, though we can't help but love her. Can she fight her nature?

The writing is evocative, sporting intense almost whimsical figurative speech, that delights us with unconventional but spot-on descriptions. Words brought together that you would not expect, but are perfect in each other's company. The author's imagination shines in this world she's built, the magic, creatures and etc she has 'conjured' for it, something to behold.

Saoirse's encounters with the prince are mostly chuckle-worthy, as are her sarcastic remarks/thoughts in general. The encounters become heart-squeezing as their relationship blossoms and your own fondness of the prince along with it. Don't judge a prince by his quips. And a warning: you will absolutely adore Rain.

Themes beautifully shared in this book are: prejudice, equality and acceptance, and the importance of loyalty and that it can signify family, not just blood. It is also about protecting your loved ones and reaching your potential.

"Is this an order?" should become this book's drinking game!

I loved how the mystery was more complex than expected and went into unexpected directions. This is an absolutely stunning beginning to a new series. With excellent weaving of the plot, its threads coming together to culminate in jaw-dropping revelations and reward us with a breathtaking finale. A more than clever ending that opens the door to an explosive sequel.

4.5 stars rounded up!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I was so EXCITED to read this book, and I'm still ecstatic that I received an ARC! When you're so excited about a book, though, it can lead to disappointment if you do t like it enough. Well, it didn't happen with this one!!! I loved it so much!! It made me look forward to reading it, even when I had to multitask a lot in my private life, and to be honest, that says a lot about the awesomeness of the book. That it makes you look forward to how the author back into it even when your brain is in shambles. 😁

Sing me to Sleep has an undeniable and absolutely irresistible voice that makes you hungry for more.

Saoirse is such a firecracker. She tolerates nothing. No BS, no incompetence, no arrogance. I loved this about her. So many characters make excuses for others, but she just doesn't give a damn. Another thing I loved about her is that she's so incredibly self-aware. She knows she's beautiful and smart and capable. And she knows her weaknesses and her lack of innocence? High moral ground? Whatever you want to call it. Have I said that I love her? ☺️

Hayes, our sweet Prince, was an interesting character. I don't usually get intrigued by such characters, meaning the innocent, unhappy privileged kind. But something about Hayes made me like him instantly. It's partly thanks to the Hayes effect and partly the author's incredible writing. He also had a beautiful character development. He didn't lose his sweet demeanor, but he grew up (the hard way).

The world building was nicely developed. I haven't read about sirens before, so I thought it was cool and well done! I also like that the society has multiple species like witches and fae with affinities!! I loved these creatures, and how the author included them!

I give 4.5 stars because the plot could have been more original. There weren't really big surprises, in general, but it had plot twists!!!!!! And I didn't see them coming!!!!! I was actually impressed with the twists. They were unpredictable, especially given the fact that the book's overall arc wasn't. Having said that, I do feel that the book had a strong plot.

It was the author's voice and Saoirse that really shone in the book for me. Absolutely captivating!! Which suits a book about an irresistible siren! 😁

And what an ending!!! Can't wait for book two!! And I also can't wait to read more books from this author. She's an insta-buy for me. What a voice!!! 😍

where do i start?

Diversity was so well-presented in this book. I was so lucky starting this. My whole month has been five star books. The FMC protagonist was such a bada** character and i'm here for it.

Sirens, witches, ogres and more fantasy characters! I was so surprised as they were slowly being introduced. The images in my head of how I imagined them to look like were wild.

THE PRINCE. tell me why I can literally picture him smirking or his eye smile when he is being sly. GOSH I NEED MORE FAN ART.

I need the second book to this sequel right now. 💳💥💳💥💳💥

Thank you NetGalley and Hodder & Stoughton (Hodderscape) for giving me an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This book was unbelievably addictive and so incredibly well written. I sometimes struggle with YA as it feels too young for me and slightly less complex, but this was not one of them. Packed full of action, a forbidden romance, deception and mystery: Sing Me To Sleep follows Saoirse who is a siren in a world where everyone looks down on her and views her as dangerous, so she keeps her identity a secret. After finishing first when training to be a soldier, she is given the role working for the Royal Family who are vicious. To make matters worse, she begins to be blackmailed, putting her beloved sister in danger. In addition to this, she begins to like the Crown Prince, whom she is a guard for. What will she do?

I am so excited to read the next book in the series, as the ending of this book just ended up with me wanting so much more. This is a must read.

Sing Me to Sleep is a story about Saoirse, a siren in hiding, protecting her little sister by going to work for the crown prince.

“Sirens were made to kill. Our purpose is to lure, seduce, and destroy”

I have had this book on my radar for quite some time and was super excited when I got approved to read an early copy! The synopsis spoke to me a lot and I couldn’t wait to dive in!

The story starts of very strong, and that strong feeling remains during the whole time reading this book!
The writing and the pacing of this book were so good! It grabbed a hold of me and didn’t let me go. I believe I read the first 15% in two days and then the rest of the book in one sitting! The pacing was done very well, perfectly to keep me hooked. It was also a really nice balance between tension, action and character growth.

The world-building was done very well. I loved getting to know the creatures that live within the wall and the powers they have. The snippets of information about the outside are sparse, but that makes me only more curious to learn more about the world itself!

Saoirse was the best character in every way! She is morally grey, has a lot of loyalty for her family and I loved her driving force, but also her self-awareness. She knows she is a killer and doesn’t apologise for it. She doesn’t shield away from her own nature and desires and I really admired that! I was also a big fan of Hayes! He was dealt a bad hand in life and tries to live with it. I loved how he came out of his shell because of Saoirse.

The relationship between these two was everything! They were so different but the way they bounced of each other kept bringing both to a greater height. They both became better due to the other, which was pure and amazing. I loved how Hayes wanted to learn more about her, how Saoirse kept her walls up but Hayes chipped them away bit by bit. The progression felt so real and natural to these characters! I can’t wait to see more of this progression in the sequel!

The twists and reveals this book has, OMG! They took me by surprise! My mouth kept falling open so often and I was just shook at some events happening! It came completely out of the blue and it was done in the best way! The ending itself was a bit bittersweet to me, but at the same time it is a perfectly understandable ending to this story and a perfect stepping stone to the next book! Which I need ASAP!

Overall, Sing Me to Sleep is an amazing debut, with very strong characters, a unique world, interesting magic and a plot that kept me hooked.
