Remy Winters has hit rock bottom: unemployed and living back home with her dysfunctional family. However, when she decides to immerse herself in the remake of her favourite childhood video game, the fantasy RPG Ultimate Adventure VII, she’s granted a great deal more escapism than she bargained for.
Finding herself trapped inside the game’s world, fantasy quickly spirals into a nightmare and she soon learns the game has some serious life – and death – consequences.
Remy must assemble a party of real-world players and in-game companions to battle against walking corpses, hordes of monsters and, worst of all, the game’s primary antagonist – The Dread Knight Grimoirh. If Remy wants to avoid a permanent Game Over, she’ll have to find three all-powerful crystal shards before Grimoirh does (sounds simple) and figure out a way home (bit harder) without breaking reality (she’s doomed).

I thought this was fun and had a Ready Player One-esque vibe going on. The book had some pacing issues and some parts could have been expanded upon but as an avid gamer, I enjoyed the similarities and "quests" that were on the page.
I would have liked more development and lore. This was a great opportunity to create something massive.

Action packed RPG computer game based fantasy. For everyone with a favourite computer game when they see a remake years later and just have to play. But watch out the experience may not be as expected. There is lots of action and a large cast of characters where there grouping gets change. There were some times within this I struggled to keep track. But I did enjoy reading the book. Thank you to The Book Guild and NetGalley for the ARC. The views expressed are all mine, freely given.

I had such a great time reading this book, it had everything that I was hoping for from the description. I love when people get trapped in games, like Jumanji. The story was written in a fun way and I enjoyed getting to go though the story. Lawrence Essex does a great job writing this and left me wanting more.

Aa a gamer this book kept my attention throughout. The main draw for me was to feel immersed in the universe created in this book.
