Description

Heaven is a place on Earth…

Well, kind of. Kaarl is a Demon who changed his ways, left Hell behind him and now works on Earth to save the souls Lucifer had sent him to claim. In Los Angeles he has wealth and power and in Heaven he has the chance for a new start. Being a Demon freshman in a university built exclusively for Angels has its challenges but other than that things are looking promising…

With Kaarl lost to the other side, Lucifer has found another way to prey on Humanity. He sends his daughter, Persephone, along with the terrifying Four Horsemen of Apocalypse to tear the Mortal world apart and bring it to the brink of starvation. While the Horsemen are forcing the Mortals to sin to survive, reaping countless souls in the process, Persephone is forcing her way in to Kaarl’s heart with her sights set firmly on revenge.

Faced with Lucifer’s wrath, Persephone’s schemes and the seemingly unstoppable Horsemen, Kaarl is running out of options and the Mortal realm is running out of time. The past he has been so desperate to bury may hold his only chance at the saving the realm he now calls home…

Wheeeeeeeee! This book was a fun ride! Kaarl is a demon who turned his back on Hell and Lucifer and is now in the equivalent of Heaven's University for Angels, learning the new ways, he brought with him from Hell, two demon sisters who have also jumped camp - Vetis and Verin, who are the most biatchy high school mentality angels-to-be that I have ever met. (I have met none)

The two realms are of course at loggerheads with each other as they have been for hundreds of years. Persephone, Lucifer's daughter is tasked to go to the mortal realm (earth, where humans live like you and me) and take with her the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, giving them an extra task or two before they are sent out to fulfill their purpose in end times. These are four UGLY dudes and they don't like the mortal realm one bit, but havoc they have come to reap.

The plot is really interesting and I actually loved the sense of humour woven into serious matters like sending pestilence over the globe and killing any mortals that get in the way, it's done really well, share with me the moment when the Four Horsemen and Persephone have to catch the bus, yes the bus!

Death grimaced as another kick rocked the back of his seat. 'I kind of like these bus things,' Famine said from across the aisle.

There is amazing imagery in this book and a whole lot of fun, Kaarl, the Angel Gabriel and Vetis and Verin all take human forms and are sent to the mortal realm also to put a stop to the mission from Hell that is rolling out on the planet.

God's champion was sprawled on one of the sofas, his leg dangling off the edge. Tall, powerfully built and apparently in his mid-forties. Gabriel's mortal form bore a strong resemblance to George Clooney. Had Mr. Clooney been blessed with a forehead-to-chin facial scar and a physique capable of lifting mid-sized sedans they could have been brothers.

Phwoar! How's that for a nice image of the Angel Gabriel eh girls? Ahem, right well, back to the review.

As havoc is happening in the mortal realm, the angels have their work cut out for them, the book flits between scenes of hell (which has a lot of bars and alcohol), the angelic realm and university where mortals are confusing to the Angels in training.

Mortals enjoy kittens that talk, pornography, and giving each other updates on their boring mundane existences, seemingly in that order. Pictures of food that they are about to eat also rate highly.''He is lying.' shouted Pyro. 'No one is that stupid.'

Oh.My.Goodness. I need to get my photos and status updates off Facebook, I had no idea the angelic realm had access to it, I did not friend them!

With the chase going on in the mortal realm to stop the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse causing further death and destruction on earth, things heat up and loyalties are testing and questioned. Can a demon REALLY swap camps and stay there? The two sisters are great characters, funny, annoying and gutsy.

'Of course I saw them. It's weird that someone can still be that hot with jawbone showing and all that black crap through their lips don't you think?''He wasn't hot,' replied Vetis 'I saw his eyes. That one was cold and empty.''Death,'Persephone told them. 'Well, Death is as fine as anything,' said Verin.

Things come to a head in a fantastic battle between the two realms, the plot is pacy and hooks you in from the start, the humour takes the book to another level and it works really well, I was not sure at first, but it makes the book a really interesting read. The characters are all very distinctive and some you will love, some you will hate. The battle scenes are MIGHTY, I loved them, I was cheering on my team all the way!

A really different take on your average angels vs demons novel, I think this one will do really well. It's not even the type of book I normally would read, but I am glad I did as a totally enjoyed every minute of it. Amazing imagery, good story telling and some fun injected along the way. What more could you want? Oh yes! Wardrobe advice from a demon.

Masterma was instantly jealous but took some small comfort in the fact that he was better dressed than the Horseman. Hugo Boss trumped heavy plate everywhere but the battlefields of medieval Europe and renaissance fairs.

4 easy stars for Beautiful Revenge, a book I could recommend to anyone, it's a great adventure and I enjoyed the ride.
