Grandma’s Poetry Book charts the nostalgic journey from birth to teens as seen through the eyes of a grandmother. It captures the many facets of those fleeting, easily forgotten moments as the grandchildren grow. Touching and funny in turn, the poems resonate with a grandmother’s love for her grandchildren. Inspired by A A Milne and the bouncy verse of Pam Ayres, Grandma’s Poetry Book was inspired by the birth of Di Castle’s first grandchild. It has been illustrated by Denise Horn – whose sketches capture the special bond between grandparents and their families.

A Note From the Publisher
Di Castle always had a love of words and started writing as soon as she could hold a pen. After her youngest daughter went to school she began a career teaching in Further Education, while collecting a hoard of unfinished manuscripts. Later, her writing took precedence and, since becoming a regular attendee at the Winchester Writers’ Conference, she has enjoyed success in their competitions gaining two first prizes and highly commended for articles on a range of subjects.

Advance Praise
‘With gentle humour and self-effacing honesty, Di Castle charts the progress of Nanny-hood from the life-changing first phone call to the grandchild’s teens. Sparing no blushes, these affectionate rhymes record the incidents and stages that all grandparents will recognise.’ – Adrienne Dines, author of Toppling Miss April
‘The collection is both inspiring and intriguing, accompanied by delightful illustrations.’ – Roderick Grant, author of Clap Hands For the Singing Molecatcher and Stathalder

It is the lovely evolution of a middle-aged woman enjoying her freedom through the announcment of pending "Grandmotherhood," and beyond.
This beautiful little ditty reminded me so much of my first introduction to being a grandma. I jokingly said I wanted to be called "Aunt Debbie." The title of grandmother sounded too old for me. On the day that little boy was born, I didn't care if he called me Grammie, Nana, Stupid...as long as he loved me.
The book captures the transformation of being a lively, independant woman to a piece of putty who adores that little bundle of joy.
You need to read this if you are a grandmother or are about to become one.

I absolutely loved this poetry collection and would recommend as a gift for any new grandmother. You can dip in and out of it and find something appropriate for the stage your grandchildren are at. I loved the fact it acknowledged that times and grandparents have changed and felt such positive vibes. I am a young "nana" and felt every sentiment from finding out you are going to be a nana to babysitting and coming to terms with your own ageing and "career" choices. Loved loved loved this and will recommend to all fellow nanas/nannys/grandmas!
