When rising journalist Daisy Jenkins sits down to interview Logan Blake, a brilliant, Cambridge-educated neuroscientist on a mission to redefine men’s mental health, she expects a compelling story. What she doesn’t expect is the spark that ignites between them, or how deeply entangled their lives will become.
From London to Sicily, through years filled with ambition, reinvention and heartbreak, Daisy and Logan circle each other in a delicate dance of missed chances and unspoken feelings. But when tragedy strikes, drawing them both to New York, fate converges in a single, devastating moment that forces Daisy to confront a truth that has quietly shaped their lives from the very beginning.

A Note From the Publisher
Thank you so much for selecting one of my books. I’m truly grateful for every reader who takes the time to explore the stories I’ve written. It means more than words can express.
Becoming an author has been a lifelong dream of mine. Like many writers, I spent years imagining what it would be like to hold a book in my hands that had my name on the cover. However, it wasn’t until my thirties that I finally took the leap. After earning a BA in Creative Writing and Psychology, with a minor in English, I committed fully to my passion and began writing seriously. Since then, I’ve been fortunate enough to publish nearly a dozen novellas and two full-length novels.
In addition to writing, I work as a teacher, which has given me the privilege of working with students from a wide range of neurodiverse backgrounds. That experience has deeply influenced the way I approach storytelling. I wanted to create accessible, engaging short-reads for individuals who love to read but may find it difficult to get through longer, denser books. Whether due to attention challenges, time constraints, or simply a preference for shorter narratives, I believe everyone deserves stories that are enjoyable, meaningful, and easy to digest.

What a beautiful story! Daisy and Logan really captivated me from the very beginning and I was so eager to find out exactly how their story would play out from their first meeting on and I was not disappointed. This book kept me turning the pages on the edge of my seat late into the night. I highly recommend it if you are looking for a beautiful love story different from its predecessors that really makes you believe true love exists:

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC.
Wow what an absolute tearjerker of a ride. Thought I would start this short story with a cuppa this morning. Literally could not put it down and read it within an hour and half.
A story about soulmates that come together with missed chances and unspoken feelings.
Top stars for me, absolutely loved the style of writing and I’m checking out what else this author has written.

Thank you for allowing me to reach such a beautiful story. It’s a heartfelt story about two people whose seemingly ill-timed, recurring encounters turned out to be exactly what they needed at that point in their lives. I could not put this book down. I absolutely love the writing style. I loved everything about this book.

On the surface it looks like a story of missed opportunities, a man and woman attracted to each other but circumstances never being right for a relationship to develop. But it' s far more than that. Daisy marries a man somewhat impulsively and finds out he has sustained devastating injuries in an IED attack. The story becomes one of duty: a woman's need to pick up the pieces, no matter the cost to her. From the initial premise of a superficial meet cute that never goes anywhere,, The Last One delivers a powerful punch and stayed with me.

Absolutely loved this! It’s a beautiful short story about missed opportunities and the importance of speaking your truth and living life without regrets. Our characters are separated, but fate keeps bringing them together at inopportune times. It touches on the power of motherhood and duty, men’s mental health, and how one life changing event can reshape your entire perspective.

[NetGalley Review – Spoilers Below]
The Last One by H. Pearce is a quiet, beautifully written exploration of love, timing, and the soul-deep recognition that sometimes, the one has been beside you all along—even if you never really got to call them yours.
This is not your typical love story. There’s no sweeping romance or grand declarations immediately—instead, it's a slow, aching realisation of connection built over time, across glances, shared messages to one another, and missed chances. The writing is intimate and understated, and it perfectly captures that sense of yearning we all carry: the hope that someone out there is meant for us.
📌 [End Spoilers]
This story lingers with you. It asks what it means to love someone completely, without allowimg yourself the chance at a relationship with them and even if you never get the fairytale ending. Which sadly for these beautiful characters, they don't. For readers who enjoy emotional depth, bittersweet truths, and stories that quietly stay with you, The Last One is a standout. One of the most affecting reads I’ve picked up this year.

This book destroyed me. I felt so sick. So freaking sick I threw up twice. My heart hurt so bad. I think I've never felt so heartbroken as I was now after finishing this book. I wanted to scream and cry so hard but it was 2 AM now. My chest hurt from the sadness this book brought me. If it was possible, I wanted to dive into the book and made Logan and Daisy never met. This story was so unfair for both of them and everyone in this book. My throat was so tight now because the pressure I had to try not to cry again.
How could this book made me so mad, sad, and miserable all at once? I hate this book so much I need to give it 5 stars because I am a masochist.
Thank you to H. Pearce, Victoria Editing, and NetGalley for the ARC.

Wow. The Last One completely wrecked me - in the quietest, most delicate way possible. It’s short, but don’t let that fool you. This story carries weight.
Daisy and Logan feel so real. The kind of “what if” love that lives between the lines. The timing is always off, the words never quite said, and you’re just watching it all unfold with that sinking feeling in your chest because you know how it ends… and yet you hope anyway.
It’s tender, it’s raw, and it doesn’t shy away from the messy stuff - grief, longing, duty, motherhood, mental health. H. Pearce somehow captured all of that in just over 200 pages, and I devoured it in one sitting with tears in my eyes and a lump in my throat.
This isn’t a happily-ever-after kind of love story… it’s the kind that lingers. The kind that makes you stare at the ceiling after finishing and just feel for a bit.
If you’ve ever had someone who felt like home but never really got to be yours… this one will break you. And you’ll thank it for doing so.
