I absolutely adored A Fire in the Sky so I was so excited to have received an eARC of the sequel. A Scar in the Bone takes place a year after the ending of the previous book, which definitely felt jarring but I soon got used to it. I really love Tamsyn and I enjoyed reading about her attempts to fit into her new life and grief over the loss of her husband. Fell and Tamsyn are separated to a vast majority of the book, which I know will disappoint many readers, however, their reunion is well worth the wait. I liked that Tamsyn spent so much time alone and felt it was essential for her character growth.

Sophie Jordan has the most beautiful writing style that keeps my eyes glued to the pages. The words flow in such a magical way and it is definitely one of the reasons I loved this book. The plot was not as fast paced as one would expect from a fantasy book, however, I found that it worked well for me.

I am sad that Fell and Tamsyn's story is over but I am eager to see what Sophie Jordans is planning next. There is so much potential for world building and certain characters being expanded on and I for one am very excited!

I really enjoyed this sequel, it is a tense, fast- paced, emotional rollercoaster. I loved seeing Tamsyn find her strength again after everything she’d been through. Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the chance to read an ARC.

Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the eARC!

What a fantastic follow-up to the first book!

The book begins with a twist, plunging you into the middle of the story, a year after the events of “A Fire in the Sky.” Tamsyn now resides with dragons, led by Vetr, Fell’s brother. She struggles to find her place among them. Embracing her true nature is a challenging task; the pride is not pleased with her arrival, her fighting abilities are sustained only by her unwavering determination to never give up, and the customs and traditions elude her. Amidst this, she grapples with the loss of Fell, who sacrificed himself a year earlier to protect the pride with his brother by his side.

The book is portrayed with maturity and understanding, allowing readers to empathize with Tamsyn’s pain and witness her resilience as she pushes through each day. The reader can relate to her struggles and find inspiration in her determination to overcome a profound loss.

One of the most captivating aspects of the book is the author’s exceptional writing skills. I finished the book in a single sitting. The plot is intriguing, with constant action that keeps the reader engaged and eager to discover what unfolds next. The author skillfully weaves psychological and emotional drama into the narrative, allowing Tamsyn’s journey to unfold smoothly and gracefully. Every word, every chapter, contributes to the overall impact of the story, adhering to the true essence of the maxim “remove everything that’s not vital.” The flow of the narrative is impeccable, creating a seamless and enjoyable reading experience.

Despite the tragic beginning, the book concludes on a hopeful note, leaving readers with a charming prediction of love and multiple enemies plotting revenge. I eagerly anticipate continuing this captivating story!

A Scar in the Bone by Sophie Jordan
If you love dragons read on...
A huge. round of applause to this truly magical author for writing this remarkable sequel to last year's A Fire in the Sky. I loved that book I reviewed it on it's first publication and, if you missed it, the paperback edition has just come out. So a brief return to A Fire in the Sky. It tells the story of Tamsyn and Fell, how they met and married in the very best example of magical fantasy that I had read in a long time. There are many misunderstandings, separations, adventures before you reach the end of the book but suffice to say it's exciting, romantic, sexy and it remains one of my favourite books.

So when offered the chance to read the sequel and give an honest review, I jumped at the chance. There's always the chance that. the sequel fails to equal the brilliance of the first book but, as you have undoubtedly worked out, in my opinion A Scar in the Bone is even better than it's predecessor. Tamsyn and Fell have new trials to face, new friends and enemies as well as old ones. There's even more romance, bravery and magic to draw you in and keep you enchanted. A Scar in the Bone is published in hardback on 14th October 2025

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for approving me to read this book, it’s 5 stars for me.

I’m obsessed with this world and the characters. I cannot believe how we are thrown back into the heart of the story, the author had me on the edge of my seat, I was in shock. As we navigate book 2 we see a lot has changed and we get to know new characters, and the status quo of things. Book 2 has a lot of heartbreak and twists that come to a nice conclusion by the end. I feel like I’m optimistic for a book 3 based on the epilogue, I’ll also miss the characters too much if this is where it ends.

In book 2 we get a little more information on dragons, the magic and what this may mean for our FMC. We also get to meet a few different factions who live in the crag and surrounding areas, they are lowkey terrifying and barbaric. I would love to explore more on the witches and how things may move forward politically after the ending of book 2, so again I’m hoping for a book 3!

Thank you NetGalley and HQ for this eCopy to review.

Some sequels deepen the magic and A Scar in the Bone does exactly that. Sophie Jordan returns to the world of A Fire in the Sky with a romantasy that’s darker, fiercer, and more emotionally charged than ever.

🐉 Plot Summary
A year has passed since Tamsyn became the bride of Fell, the Beast of the Borderlands and the dragon who sacrificed himself to save her. Now alone among the dragon pride, Tamsyn is an outsider, grieving and training relentlessly to survive in a world that still sees her as other.

But magic is stirring. As Tamsyn transforms from a reluctant heroine into a warrior, her bond with Fell refuses to fade. Meanwhile, danger brews in the form of Stig once her closest friend, now a deadly enemy bent on destroying her and all magic. And then there’s Vetr, Fell’s enigmatic twin, whose silver-eyed gaze holds both suspicion and something more.

This second instalment in the Fire in the Sky series is a story of grief, transformation, and the kind of love that burns across lifetimes.

💖 What I Loved
Tamsyn’s Growth: Her emotional and physical transformation is powerful. She’s not just surviving she’s becoming.

The World-Building: From the Crags to the dragon pride’s brutal training arenas, the setting is vivid and immersive.

Romantic Tension: The dynamic between Tamsyn and Vetr adds a new layer of complexity, while her bond with Fell remains deeply felt.

Themes of Identity and Belonging: Tamsyn’s struggle to find her place between human and dragon, past and future is beautifully explored.

⚠️ What to Know
This is very much a middle book. It builds tension, deepens character arcs, and sets the stage for what promises to be an explosive finale. Some readers may find the pacing slower, but the emotional payoff is worth it.

🔥Final Thoughts
A Scar in the Bone is a rich, emotionally resonant romantasy perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas, Rebecca Yarros, or anyone who loves dragons, fated mates, and heroines who rise from the ashes. If you’re ready to be swept away by fire, fate, and fierce loyalty, this one belongs on your shelf.
