Description

The Last Love Song is a compelling story of love and devastating loss set on the rural west coast of Ireland and in glamourous 1960s London, from the internationally bestselling author of The Seven Sisters series, Lucinda Riley.

Sorcha O’Donovan dreams of an exciting life beyond the West Cork coastline where she has grown up. When she encounters the town’s strikingly handsome outcast, struggling musician Con Daly, her days will never be the same.

When Con strikes gold with rock band The Fishermen in London, he and Sorcha look set for a rosy future. But their lives change beyond recognition as the dark side of fame rears its head. Death threats follow Con around, and devastating secrets from the past threaten to destroy everything he has worked for.

Twenty years later, The Fishermen agree to re-form for the massive Music for Life charity concert at Wembley Stadium. But Con Daly, heartthrob and spokesman for a generation, has been missing for over a decade.

There’s only one person who can find out what happened, who has access to the lives, loves and careers of all concerned as The Fishermen rose to worldwide fame. Only one person who knows how vital it is to uncover the truth, because should Con Daly reappear before the facts emerge, then history could repeat itself with even more tragic consequences.

Lucinda Riley wrote The Last Love Song as Lucinda Edmonds, now reworked and revived by Harry Whittaker, Lucinda’s son and co-author of Atlas: The Story of Pa Salt.

'The Last Love Song' by Lucinda Riley is a revised and updated edition of her book 'Losing You', which was published previously under Ludinda Edmonds.
It brings us from West Cork in the 1960s to the glamorous rock scene in London. Sorcha and her partner Con are in search of a good life in London. There Con joins the band 'The Fishermen' and rises to stardom in the music scene with them. But life is not always rosy and things start to fall apart. When Helen from their home town appears on the London scene some old secrets are being unraveled.
This is a very enjoyable novel which gives a great insight into the music business at the time and as usual with Lucinda Riley her characters are portrayed beautifully.
Reading a Lucinda Riley novel is like wrapping a comfort blanket around yourself. Although 'The Last Love Song' hasn't got the absolute genius of her later work (The Seven Sisters) yet, it is still a brilliant novel to read.
Many thanks to Pan Macmillan and NetGalley for the ARC.

This was a great read!
"The Last Love Song" was initially published in 1997 under the title "Losing You" by Lucinda Edmonds, and it has been wonderfully refreshed and updated by her son, Harry Whittaker, who, in my opinion, has done a remarkable job!

This is a story about love, loss, fame, and obsession. It is about believing in yourself and your dreams and about the ultimate sacrifice. It is also a story that will pull at your heartstrings.

"Losing you, after all these years of loving you, Is the hardest thing I've ever been through"

Thank you to NetGalley and Pan Macmillan for the ARC

Absolutely brilliant . You follow the 3 main characters from rural Ireland in the 60’s to London and into the 80’s. So many twists. The band sounded ace . I loved the 60’s part and the changes of views in time. The opening is very clever . Money comes in to it . One of my reads of 2025. The ending is very clever. Read it

I enjoyed this even though, as an earlier work by Lucinda Riley, it doesn't have the same 'feel' as The Seven Sisters series. The story follows Con, Sorcha and Helen from Ballymore to London in the 60's. Then Con's rise to fame and fortune with The Fisherman. But beneath the surface there are plenty of cracks until an unfortunate incident causes everything to fall apart. Then the story moves to the 80's and a comeback for the The Fisherman. Old secrets rise again and a genius twist at the end reveals the full story of what happened in the 60's. A wonderful story with an interesting look at the music industry at the time.
Thanks to Netgalley, Pan Macmillan, and Lucinda Riley (RIP) and Harry Whittaker for the free ARC. All opinions are my own.
