Description

Sometimes, it’s not easy to tell the good guys from the bad …

Freelance journalist, Anna Morris, is struggling to make a name for herself, so she’s delighted to attend a launch event for a hip young artist at her friend Seb’s gallery.

But an exclusive interview isn’t all Anna comes away with. After an encounter with the enigmatic Darrick Farron, she is flung into the shady underground of the art scene – a world of underhand dealings, missing paintings and mysterious deaths …

Seb is intent on convincing Anna that Darrick is up to no good but, try as she might, she can’t seem to keep away from him. And as she becomes further embroiled, Anna begins to wonder – can Seb’s behaviour be explained away as the well-intentioned concern of an old friend, or does he have something to hide?

This is only the second "choc-lit" book that I have read but I have had a few recommended to me recently so thought would give this one a go as I had very much enjoyed the first.
Anna Morris meets a mysterious man at a gallery event run by her good friend from university Seb. But the man, who initially calls himself Max Conran, turns out not to be who he says he is. Anna takes on a new job at the gallery but although she is warned against it she starts seeing the mysterious "Max". But Anna needs to know who to trust because danger is just around the corner.
This is a nice easy read with a twist of romance and a mystery surrounding the death of Sebs girlfriend. Set within the art world, the characters are very likeable and I really didn't have a clue who would turn out to be "the bad guy". It was certainly an impressive debut and an ideal start to her new series.
I received a copy of this book via netgalley in return for an unbiased review.

This was a nice change to the normal crime fiction I read, and I enjoyed it thoroughly. In this book we meet Anna, a young and upcoming journalist. She is invited to an event at a gallery and meets a mysterious person ..... named Darrick. But Darrick is not all what he seems. And leaves us feeling ..... Do you really know the people around you. Thanks for the book netgalley. It is highly recommended!

I love when books have "secret society's or clubs". This book was suspenseful and great!

Great read. Really enjoyed the storyline and the characters.

A great thriller that starts gently, builds up and then stampedes to an exciting end.
Based in London Anna attends an Art Gallery launch party one evening, and meets an attractive man. However it appears he is acting oddly and Anna is warned to stay away from him - but she can't quite leave him alone. And that's only Chapter 1! As Anna says much later on "He seemed like a nice man", but is he who he seems to be? As the story progresses Anna has to decide should she listen to her long time friend from University or to the man of her dreams that she has just only just met. Naturally it's not as simple as that, as the author weaves her modern day thriller.

This is a book that draws you in, and keeps you reading just a little bit more than you had intended to each session. Anna 's character is well drawn, helped by her chats with her house mates (bit like "Sex in the City" minus the sex and based in London) and I felt really involved in her dilemmas. There were many instances I wondered what I would have done in her situation - until well into the book when I would have fled the scene very fast (Anna fortunately has more bravado than me). The mystery builds with each chapter, with lots of twists and unexpected turns, and many cliff hanger chapter endings. This is a book that you won't want to put down. .

Clare Chase's writing style is fun, often humorous and makes for a great light, but engrossing, read.

The story is based in the art world, so gives brief glimpses into that; whilst mostly set in London there are occasional forays out into the Lake District.

I loved it, and would recommend this book to anyone looking for a gripping thriller.

I enjoyed this book although it started off very slowly, the pace soon picked up and I found myself not being able to put it down, full of twists and suspense, hard to believe this is a debut. will certainly look for more by this author.

Written in the first person and from one viewpoint is often a difficult choice for any writer as plotting and character empathy is challenging at best, a nightmare at worst. Nevertheless Clare Chase has managed to produce a well rounded book with believable characters without the crux of alternate voices - amazing given that this is her debut work.
So you think you know me is a mystery/romance set between Cambridge and London and featuring would be art critic/freelance journalist Anna on her quest to find out just what mysterious Darrick is up to. Is he a genuine contender in the boyfriend stakes or is he after something distinctly darker? The writing is solid, the plotting exquisite and the ending well planned with all the loose ends tied off nicely without the need to introduce new ideas or characters in the last chapter - often the last resort of the desperate writer of this genre. Well done Clare,

You Think You Know Me by Clare Chase explores the mysterious death of a young woman that was thought to be suicide.

The story involves journalist Anna Morris who has just moved to London to see if she can cut it as a freelancer, but as her new life starts to feel precarious she found herself questioning who she can trust including gallery owner and her former lover Sebastian Rice who offers her a job with a steady income.

This is a Mystery/Suspense Romance with many twists and turns that got me sweating. For being Clare Chase’s first book, she did an amazing work by keeping me enthralled all the way through. The character were fabulous, especially Anna’s, and the story-line just great. The art world, in which the setting takes place sets part of the mood in the story.

You Think You Know Me is a fantastic story!

A bit different from what I normally read but a pleasant surprise. Some surprises along the way. And held my attention throughout.

4 stars!

Wow, this was like a tennis match for me. In one instance I'm rooting for Seb in the other I'm rooting for Darrick/Max or whatever his name is. To me their both liars. I honestly don't trust either of them. Several times I just want to pack Anna's bags, put them and her in her trunk and get the hell out of there. Something weird is going on and you need to get the hell out of there FAST! And your roommates are cray cray. The one in basement reminds me of Rebel Wilson in Bridesmaids, but the cousin has her personality. HA!!

I did a lot of head shaking in this book. Wondering just what this girl was thinking and why she was sticking around. I knew one of these two or maybe both guys were bad. I had to stick it out to the end to figure it out. It was killing me that she was so dumb, but I had to know. Normally stupidity makes me put a book down, but curiosity kept this cat reading. So I guess it wasn't that stupid after all.

Thanks to Choc Lit and Net Galley for providing me with this free e-galley in exchange for an honest review. I found it entertaining and while the girl was stupid, it was enjoyable.

Intrigue, romance and suspense in a book that has you constantly turning the pages to find out what happens next. What else can you ask for?

Anna Morris, struggling freelance journalist unsure of what she really wants to do with her life, meets the enigmatic Darrick Fallon at an exhibition hosted by her old university friend, Seb. As Darrick Fallon pulls on both her heart-strings and her sanity, she finds her loyalties torn and the questions mounting as she tries to come to terms with her past and its effects on a mystery firmly affecting the present...

This book manages the perfect balance between showing relationships stealthily creeping along and having the plot canter at speed. The loyalties that old friends demand and new ones seek are rawly and realistically portrayed. And the way the butterfly effect rears its ugly head is scarily believable. Loved it!

What a rollercoaster this book is!! The levels of tension, suspense and mystery just seemed to elevate as each chapter went by and just when you think you've sussed out who to trust and who is telling the truth, then there's another twist put your way that has you back to square one again in not knowing who you should be rooting for!

Loved the character of Anna, who is finding the world of journalism a little underwhelming until she becomes freelance and begins to find a niche in interviewing her old university friends who have all gone on to great things, as well as a sideline in designing bags!. She soon finds herself back in the world of Seb Rice who is in the art world and has an event at his gallery that gets a lot of interest - good and bad! So she becomes more involved in the art world and who knew it could be all so cloak and dagger! And when the mysterious Max/Darrick appears in her life then the story really picks up pace and the quest for finding out who is telling the truth keeps you gripped throughout! So many twists and turns that you'll have every character under suspicion at one point or another!!

An amazing read from a debut author so I can't wait to read more from Clare Chase!!

I really enjoyed this book.. Clare Chase is a wonder author. Anna is a fabulous character. She is feisty and a very believable character. She does have a little bit of a stubborn side. Anna is a freelance journalist, so she is also struggling. We find her in the beginning at a gallery that is being held by an old friend She eventually meets a mystery man who claims to be named Max, but there is more to Max that meets the eye. This book is one that you had to figure out who is trustful and who is not. She did a very good job that kept you guessing. Great mystery novel, with a wonderful combination of mystery, dark secrets and a light read. Highly recommend it.

This was unexpected! Having read lots of Choc Lit authors, I was expecting a nice romance. In hindsight the cover should have given me a clue! This was a taut thriller about the art world with a very credible heroine and some very dodgy characters!

I really enjoyed reading about Anna as she delved deeper and deeper into the mystery of her old university friends and the appearance of the mystery man at the art gallery. I was no wiser than her - who could she trust?

The ending was heart-stopping and I'm sure I actually stopped breathing! Can't recommend this book highly enough - it's a keeper as well. I'll read this one again!

Phew, what a ride. This book snatched my attention from the first page and didn't let up right until the last, taking me on a thrilling rollercoaster ride throughout.
We meet Anna, she is trying to make it as a freelance journalist using mostly connections made through old uni friends, Along with Sally, she lodges with her cousin Alicia in London. An old friend of Anna's from university, Seb, is the owner of an art gallery and through him, Anna gets to write a piece on artist Zach Shakespeare and it is at a showing of his work that she is first approached by a man calling himself Max and this meeting opens up a can of worms, of secrets, lies, confusion, intrigue and more which as it turn out has its roots buried quite far in the past.
I did take to Anna pretty much from the start but I did find her to be a little bit naive and not in an appealing way, There were a fair few incidents where I just wanted to slap her one for either missing the obvious or believing/trusting someone so obviously dodgy. Max and Seb, the two male leads were equally unappealing to me as characters. I think my favourite character would have to be Sally, although we only see a glimpse into her life, what we do see is fun and I loved some of the one liners she uses with regard to her job! I would definitely like to see the author take this character and develop her more in other books. I think she has great potential. Alicia whilst on the whole slightly annoying was also one of my favourites because, despite all her hang-ups, she comes across very much as what you see is what you get and I like that kind of consistency. For all her dubious methods, she also just wants to help.
The story is quite convoluted in parts. As a reader you are torn this way and that, there are so many lies and counter-lies flying about I spent that majority of the book in quite a quandary with who to believe.
All in all, this was an easy to read, attention keeping mystery that I thoroughly enjoyed. I will definitely be keeping an eye out for more from the author.

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Zachariah Shakespeare was an artist. Adam was to interview him in a couple of days. Anna met Max at the art show, only to find out he isn't who he says he is.

Anna is a free-lance journalist. Anna went through so many ups and downs in this story it kept you riveted.

It was a thoroughly enjoyable story, with a great plot and characters. I highly recommend it.

What a wonderful first novel. A true thriller with all the trimmings, including romance..

I really enjoyed this romantic suspense mystery. There is some romance but the mystery is also quite good. There are lots of twists and turns and enough red herrings to keep the mystery interesting. I liked the main character. Anna is a freelance journalist/writer who has stumbled on a mystery between an old friend and a new lover and is not sure who to trust. The author does a good job with the Art and London background. Enjoy this book for a fast suspenseful read with a little romance thrown in.

I loved the character of Anna Morris. She is strong but not so sure of herself at times. She seems like most women in that we can be strong and in your face and not back down but once alone we will break down and fall apart. And I could see that in her character. I think its Anna being a Journalist that gets her into trouble. She is naturally inquisitive. And this leads her down the wrong path.

The character Darrick Farron, well where do I start? He is so mysterious and just what every woman I think is looking for in a man. A little aloof and just out of reach but my Knight in Shining Armor when I really need him to be. I love the fact that Clare leaves you hanging with his character till almost the end of the book.

Sebastian Rice. Anna has known him since they went to the University together with their beautiful friend Julia. Sebastian and Julia could not keep away from each other. They were going to be a beautiful old married couple. Up until the day Julia killed herself. Sebastian was devastated and reached out to Anna for comfort and she gave back. Comfort that is……..

Her roommates Alicia and Sally make for funny times in the flat.

Where do I start? When I thought I knew where the story line was going Clare took the story to another level. We all have our group of friends from our University days .But we've parted ways due to jobs and life's journeys or…. how many have ended in suicide and murder? Anna Morris has moved back to London as a Freelance Journalist and is drawn to the art world which brings her in contact with some of her old friends and contacts. Sebastian Rice who is now a gallery owner has a huge gallery opening and Darrick Farron comes under an another patrons name and takes a picture of Anna. This sets off warning bells for Sebastian. Seb warns Anna about Darrick. She is more intrigued than scared off and meets the mysterious Darrick Farron. Which she is madly drawn to, but finds every possible reason not to be with. But you know with bad boys once with one you always go back! Sebastian who is also the good guy to Darricks bad boy offers Anna a lucrative job there at the gallery. But there is one catch . She can not see Darrick. What does Sebastian know about Darrick that he isn't telling Anna? There is history between Sebastian and Anna, she trusts him. But she has feelings for Darrick. What should Anna do? She is caught up in the Art world and it is ruthless. I enjoyed every second of this book and can't wait to read more of Clare Chases work
