Description

THE INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

A family on a remote island. A mysterious woman washed ashore. A storm gathering force.

Dominic Salt and his three children are caretakers of Shearwater, a tiny weather-lashed island that is home to the world’s largest seed bank. As Shearwater risks being lost to rising sea levels, the island’s researchers have fled, and only the Salts remain.

Until, during the worst storm in living memory, a stranger washes ashore. The family nurse the woman, Rowan, back to strength, but it seems she isn’t telling the whole truth about why she’s there. And when Rowan stumbles upon sabotaged radios and a recently dug grave, she realises that she’s not the only one on the island with a secret.

A novel of breathtaking twists, dizzying beauty and ferocious love, Wild Dark Shore is about the impossible choices we make to protect the people we love.

This book has my heart and soul.
I wish I could erase my memory and read it again - and then again, and again. I want to curl up with this story and never let go.

It’s thought-provoking, tender, and raw all at once - an anthem to the wild, ruthless power of nature and the pure, unwavering strength of human love. It’s about the impossible choices that, in truth, are the easiest of all - how family always comes first, how love always comes first, even when the world seems to be ending.

Shearwater - a small island in the middle of the vast ocean. Home to rare wildlife, a science base, a seed vault, and a lighthouse turned family home of the island keeper and his three children - the Salt family.

But the ocean is rising, and the island is doomed. The scientists have fled, the seeds are packed, and the Salts are meant to leave on the next ship. Then, the worst storm in history hits. When the waves settle, they find a strange woman washed ashore. Rowan is nursed back to life by the family, but there’s no way to call for help - the power is out, communications are dead, and there are fresh graves on the hill. Everyone has something to hide, yet they must survive together for six long weeks until the Navy ship arrives.

The characters are utterly captivating - complex, real, strong, and painfully human.
Dominic Salt, the father, still mourning his late wife while trying to hold his family together.
Raf, the oldest, fiercely protective and already carrying the weight of a man.
Fen, the middle daughter, haunted by trauma, living alone among the seals on the beach.
And Orly, the youngest - a boy who hears the island whisper, who knows every plant and creature, and who would do anything to protect the nature that raised him.

This book left me in awe. It’s haunting, beautiful, and unforgettable.
I’ll be pressing it into everyone’s hands - and talking about it for months to come.
