Description

Have you ever wished you could live inside a book?

Welcome to the Astral Library, where books are doors to new worlds.

Alix Watson knows one thing: unlike people, books will never let her down. Working dead-end jobs to make ends meet, she takes nightly refuge in the reading room at the Boston Public Library, dreaming of far-off lands.

Until she stumbles through a hidden door and is transported to The Astral Library, a place where the lost find sanctuary within their beloved stories.

But when a shadowy enemy threatens to destroy the library, Alix must flee from danger through the Regency drawing rooms of Jane Austen and the back alleys of Sherlock Holmes’ London as danger closes in …

‘Those who don’t believe in magic will never find it’ - Roald Dahl

“It's a great blessing if one can lose all sense of time, all worries, if only for a short time, in a book.”
― Nella Last

I’ve loved every Kate Quinn book I have read. I was slightly taken aback and equal amounts excited to dive into The Astral Library, her first foray into fantasy.

This is a book lovers dream, to be able to jump into the pages and walk the paths of our favourite characters, experiencing their world.

I would love to be a Patron who gains access to the Astral Library but like Alix, I think I would have a bit of trouble deciding which book to jump into.

This book highlights the importance of libraries and the sanctuary they can act as for people. It was interesting to read about the Patrons and the books they chose to live in.

I loved the aspect that time is paused when you’re in the Astral Library and you can return to your ‘life’ exactly when you left it, unless you enter a book where time does not stand still.

I loved the fight against a complete modernisation and the interaction with the art and computer game worlds.

I think I am destined to be a ghost, residing in the Astral Library for centuries trying to get through my TBR list.

Thanks to Harper Fiction for the advanced copy of this story.

Thanks to her passion for reading, Alix Watson has managed to endure the foster care system, three jobs, and a worn-out life. One day, she has the opportunity to truly escape—into a book. She is granted the opportunity to live as a character in the book of her choice after being introduced to the Astral Library. But before she can get comfortable, the library system begins to malfunction, and Alix is at last in the conflict and adventure of her dreams. It's such a great idea for a novel and Kate Quinn pulls it off with great skill.
