Hot & Cold by Tegan Phillips is a fun and easy read about friends who wake up married in Vegas. To try and keep his inheritance they stay together and try and convince everyone it's a real marriage.

While Lyndsey and Aiden deal with the issue of them being married, they are each dealing with individual troubles too. Can they trust each other enough to go all in on the marriage as their feelings develop?

Ms. Phillips has created characters that are likeable (Lyndsey needs to quit crying though) and I rooted for them throughout the book. It did bother me that they didn't fall back on that friendship and just TALK to each other, but I got over that. :)

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in consideration of an honest review.

Thanks to NetGalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for a review.

Ahhh!! This is a book two of a book I've read. I started reading this and thought I might be missing some crucial information until I realized these people are already familiar to me. I love hockey romances, so no complaints here from me. And her name is Lyndsey (spelled wrong but its ok).

thank you to netgalley and canello for providing me this arc for my honest review
my thoughts *ੈ𑁍༘⋆
this book was my first hockey romance so i was immediately intrigued going into it. hot & cold is a beautiful tale of trust, partnership, fake marriage and trauma. i love how much depth there was to not just our main characters, but to the side characters as well.
now when you first dig into the story, the writing seems a bit clunky but it quickly dissipates after about 15%, to me it seemed less about writing skills and more just the author getting used to her characters 🌷once you’re past that part though the story really starts to take shape and you begin to fall in love with aiden and lyndsey.

now let’s talk about the characters, plot and what i did and didn’t like ⋇⋆✦⋆
- lyndsey: a really lovely fmc, with a complex emotional depth and trauma. i loved seeing her work through her struggles and insecurities that i personally resonated with. she has a beautiful soul and is really sweet. i did find her to be sometimes a bit blindsided by her trauma however when you unravel her story her reactions are completely valid. 🥺🫶
- aiden: a texas accent speaking hockey player. are you sold yet? no? well what about if his pet name of choice is darlin’? aiden comes across at the start as cocky, sexy & smug, but as we follow his pov, you see his huge heart and incredible values. he is team captain 🥵 and incredibly sexy 😏
- the plot: at first glance you believe the plot is going to be centred around their fake marriage, but rather than just a lighthearted simple plot, the author gives us a more complex, emotional plot full of ups and downs and mysterious threats. definitely exceeded my expectations 💌

now the tropes ゚+*:ꔫ:*﹤
- fake marriage
- friends to strangers to lovers
- second chance romance
- protective mmc
- one bed
- forced proximity
- found family

spice: 🌶️🌶️.75
* several scenes, descriptive, not extremely dirty or taboo, but detailed. (definitely sexy though)

Hot & Cold by Tegan Phillips
4 out of 5 stars
ARC- Releases Jan 21, 2026

Thank you to Canelo, Tegan Phillips, and NetGalley for the opportunity to ARC read the book! This review is of my honest opinion 🥰

Lyndsey and Aiden find themselves married after they wake up together in bed. They don't remember anything, but that's Vegas for you. Although, divorce is put on the table immediately, they find themselves helping each other and falling in love on the way.

I'll start by saying that this was a pretty good read. There weren't many areas that I had difficulty with and that means this read was a great experience. For those wondering what I struggled with, they were quite small. One was for the use of darlin' throughout the text. I used to work at a small diner where people from all over came as it was one of the last original diners in the chain. The older people always came in using terms like that to us minors so I couldn't help but see Aiden as an old man when I knew he wasn't. So that is on me 😂 The second issue I had dealt with was the length. It felt like we could use some more scenes that detailed what Lindsey's brother did growing up as we get a hint of it or more between the two MCs. With it being a little short, it felt like we were rushing into the relationship, and with the spicy scenes.

Now the good parts. Lyndsey and Aiden have difficult backgrounds that helped shape who they are in the present time (homophobia, death/grief, intense religious upbringing for those that want to be aware 💚). Tegan wrote them in such a way that many people, including myself, could relate to these two characters and many others you'll see. It gave such a personal touch to the story and I loved that! The writing also showed the characters as good people who have a lot of care for others as they help one another get through difficult times.

If you're looking for a read where the characters support each other rather than give up, give this book a shot! You'll be able to feel the love that everyone has (and not just the main two) and it will create the feeling of happiness (though there will be a moment with a cute old man that may make you want to shed a tear or two). I hope we get to see more of Lyndsey and Aiden!

I absolutely loved Hot and Cold by Tegan Phillips — it pulled me in from the very first page and never let go. The chemistry between Aiden and Lyndsey was electric, the kind that makes you grin, blush, and reread whole scenes just to feel it again. I was completely drawn in by the friends-to-lovers and fake-marriage setup — those tropes are my weakness, and Tegan made them feel fresh and exciting. The tension, the banter, the slow realization that their fake relationship was turning real — it all felt so perfectly paced. What really sealed it for me was how the emotional vulnerability balanced the heat; beneath the spice and drama, there was so much genuine care and growth. It’s the kind of romance that leaves you smiling long after you finish.

I'm enjoying all the Sports romance novels that are around at the moment and Hot & Cold certainly didn't disappoint. Enemies to lovers is one of my favourite troupes and the author did this well. The story was easy to follow and there was a great cast of characters. Plus plenty of spicy scenes. I highly recommend it and I look forward to reading more by the author.

I really liked this book. The chemistry between Lyndsey and Aiden was amazing but also the whole found family within the hockey team. Both Lyndsey and Aiden had their own family trouble to deal with although Lyndsey's was a bit worse. It was good that both of them were there for each other. Lyndsey's insecurity felt realistic as many people would become like that after what she dealt with her whole life.
Overall I enjoyed reading this book.

A cute friends to lovers with slow burn heat and an added mysterious twist.

Lyndsey and Aiden wake up in Vegas with no recollection of getting married the night before. Rather than getting divorced right away, they both decide to use the marriage to their advantage. Aiden needs to be married to receive his father’s inheritance, and Lyndsey is hoping that news of her marriage will finally make her alcoholic ex back off.

The book is written in dual POV, with some overlap in the timeline between chapters which caused a bit of confusion for me. The writing was also a bit clunky in the beginning as the characters were being introduced but it quickly got sucked in once the plot took off!

Overall, this was a fun friends-to-lovers hockey romance that I thoroughly enjoyed!

Tropes:
-Marriage of Convenience
-Forced Proximity
-Only One Bed
-Friends to Lovers

Spice: 2/5 🌶️
A few explicit scenes but nothing crazy

Overall: 4.5/5 ⭐️

This is a friends to lovers with chaotic charm and slow burn heat. Lyndsey and Aiden are childhood friends that wake up married in Las Vegas after one to many drinks. She demands an annulment while he is hesitant about calling it quits so fast. With the supporting cast of Lyndsey’s best friend and Aiden’s teammates are perfect sides. Thank you to NetGalley for allowing me to read and review my thoughts.
