Description

Fourteen-year-old Madi arrives at her grandparents’ Florida beach condo expecting quiet days, books, and sunsets over the Gulf. She doesn’t expect Matthew—the older boy next door with the swimmer’s build, the calm confidence of a lifeguard, and a way of stepping into danger without hesitation.

Matthew saves lives for a living. He’s admired, watched, and talked about—but when he looks at Madi, he sees her in a way no one ever has. As the heat of summer builds, so does a connection neither of them knows how to name. What begins as innocent fascination deepens into something powerful, intense, and unforgettable.

Then a hurricane tears through the coast.

In the chaos and fear, Matthew risks everything in a rescue that brands itself into Madi’s heart—an act of courage that defines what love means to her, long after summer ends and they’re forced apart.

Years later, they meet again in college.

They aren’t the same people they were that summer. Madi is no longer the girl content to be swept along by emotion, and Matthew is no longer untouched by the consequences of being wanted and admired. The pull between them is still there, but so are doubt, pride, and the quiet fear that first love may not survive real life.

Some love changes you.
Some love tests you.
And some love—if you’re brave enough—lasts.

Some Love Lasts is a sweeping, emotionally rich romance about first love, heroic courage, and the kind of connection that refuses to fade with time. Perfect for readers who love nostalgic beach settings, deeply felt relationships, and stories that linger long after the final page.

This was a wonderful teenager to college and beyond sweet romance written by someone who remembers how it used to be when love was pure.

I loved the tone which is very rare these days and that despite it being a romance there was no sex mentioned which most books tend to centre around.

I loved the feel and I felt like I was growing up with the characters Madi and Matthew. The way it all started as neighbours next door to each other was my favourite part and I enjoyed how they both still thought of each other over the years.

This is a really enjoyable romance told by someone who hasn't forgotten that love is really the most simplest thing. When 2 people love each other then love when they are both ready finds them.

Thank you Tim for the opportunity to read your book for free in return for a review on Net Galley

This one was such a sweet read.

There is something really rare about a romance that takes its time and lets the feelings build naturally without rushing into anything. Madi and Matthew's story starts in the most classic way, two neighbors, a summer at the beach, that slow and innocent kind of connection that you just don't see very often anymore. And it works beautifully.

What I loved most is how the story follows them beyond that first summer. Watching two people carry a connection through the years, growing up separately and then finding each other again in college, felt very real and very earned. First love stories that actually go the distance hit differently.
The beach setting is gorgeous and the whole tone of the book feels warm and unhurried in the best way. It reads like a story written by someone who genuinely believes in love as something simple and pure, and that comes through on every page.

A really lovely, feel good romance for when you want something that reminds you why love stories exist in the first place.

Started out so sweet, draws you in innocence and young love

The hurricane was all too real. I live on the Gulf Coast and been through many hurricanes, never on the water but reading about it was close enough.

This book took me on such a journey. I feel like it was so much longer than it was. In a good way.

I loved the characters and the story. A little cheesy at times but I had a lot of layers and was a easy read even with all the emotional drama and grief.

I enjoyed it very much and would recommend it.

I was excited to read this YA romance, but i was left a little disappointed. Though I loved the premise, I feel like it fell a little short when I actually read it. It follows the young love of Madi and Matthew, and then they are forced apart. They reunite years later, and i loved reading that part the most! 3.5 rounded up to 4.

i really enjoyed this book. i like how seriously the author took all moments in time for our characters. its very easy for people to dismiss younger people feelings, especially surrounding love. and even more so if there is a first love like we meet in this book. i really appreciated how Tim seemed to take them seriously, and gave them the space they deserved. and in doing so you see just how much things shape us, mean to us, and often follow us through life. can love? i also really like books like this that follow them through to this first meet and relationship and beyond. you grow up with them and see whats next in life. it then adds a maturity to the read.
Madi expects one thing about her summer and ends up getting a whole lot more. and that because she wasn't expecting to meet Matthew. and its the same the other way round as well. these two connect, these two see each other and in turn see something perhaps others dont.
the connection only grows as does their proximity over the summer. and that is a summer that will mould and change the hearts forever. but the summer has to end. it does so in a way noone could've seen coming. and for these two it really does have to end.
years go by then and they haven't been able to stay in touch. but hello, meeting again in college!
they are both older now. Madi especially has done a whole lot of maturing. shes not the bookish teen any more. Matthew and Madi have clearly not forgotten each other or what they had. but where does that leave them now? can love mature and grow as our pair do?
i think the way Tim wrote this meant that i could root for these two far more than i thought an old cynic like me would. it had me wanting to believe in them. because it does happen. it can. and the way these two arent always romanticised. really had me wanting to believe they can too. but not in a cringe way which i have to admit i was expecting to feel when i first started. and by changing the people means their love when seen again can be something different, can be something mature too. this isn't their adolescent love and it doesn't have to be. i really like the settled in feeling i had reading this. it didn't rely on that certain series on Prime that deals out drama after drama as if this somehow solidifies the love more or makes it mean more. and whilst that is good for the intensity young people feel things. i really appreciated this more settled and peaceful approach to it. it made me believe in it more too.
in the way it was explored it also meant i cared quite protectively about them both. i wanted to read on not just for the romance but for how i felt about them as a couple and apart.
we cant also ignore the nostalgic settings we have in this book. i have never been to Florida but it certainly made me want to. or look up a few of the place on google to have good sunshine filled explore of the place more. and of course that threat of extreme weather adds to what our pair faced together.
id like to believe in a book like this and the love it tells us of. and Madi especially made me wish for it. her emotional growth throughout the read really did hit home. i wanted the best for her.
some love last forever could mean many things in this case. not just on how long a love actually last. but the lasting effect it has one us and what we might become.
at the end i did have a slight wobble. it was so close to the end i truly did thing for the first time an author was going to pull the rug out from under us. i was literally looking at the page count. and it showed me how much actually we all want to keep believing. know matter our ages.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

*Some Love Lasts* was such a heartfelt and emotional read. Tim Hunniecutt delivers a story that reminds you of the power of love, the importance of memories, and how some connections stay with us no matter how much time passes.

What I loved most was the emotion woven throughout the story. The characters felt genuine, and their experiences were filled with moments that felt relatable and honest. There was a beautiful balance of joy, heartbreak, hope, and reflection that made the story easy to connect with.

The writing had a thoughtful, almost nostalgic quality that made me want to slow down and really take in the characters' journeys. It’s the kind of book that makes you think about the people who have shaped your life and the moments that stay with you long after they’ve passed.

I appreciated the themes of love, resilience, and the idea that some relationships leave an imprint on our hearts forever. It wasn’t just a story about romance—it was about the lasting impact people have on one another.

If you enjoy emotional, character-driven stories about love, loss, and the bonds that stand the test of time, *Some Love Lasts* is definitely worth picking up. Tim Hunniecutt has written a touching story that will stay with you even after you turn the final page.

A beautiful reminder that some loves may change, but the memories and feelings they leave behind can last forever.
