Description

HE'S A HOTSHOT FIREFIGHTER WHO LOST EVERYTHING.
SHE'S A RISK HE CAN'T AFFORD TO TAKE.
ONE SPARK AND THEIR RULES GO UP IN SMOKE. . .

‘I want us to be more than fun, Prescott. I wanna make you mine.’

Fighting wildfires is the only thing I’ve ever wanted to do and I’m damn good at it. Being the captain of an inter-agency hotshot crew of wildland firefighters is high risk, high reward. The risk blindsided me five years ago when I lost one of my crew and my life was changed for ever. Now, the only rewards I allow myself are to work harder and smarter and to enjoy easy, sexy nights with strangers.

Then I meet Prescott Timmons. Her smart mouth and adventurous spirit have me forgetting all of my rules – until her past shows up and her lies start to feel familiar. I swear to never spare her a second glance, but when she finds herself in a life-or-death situation with Mother Nature, my instincts kick in and I take action. Stranded and sharing a bed again, we’re forced to face our truth.

DO WE LET THIS FIRE BURN OUT OR FIGHT FOR IT?

Ooh I really loved this book, the immediate chemistry and connection followed by misunderstanding and conflict really created the perfect storm of tension. Scottie's past was fascinating and not at all what I'd been expecting, it was a really interesting twist that I loved. Her guilt over her past and her feelings of obligation warring with her newfound freedom felt really authentic and genuine, and trying to balance that with having met someone like Cal arguably too soon made for some really interesting conflict. Callahan himself was just perfect, insanely hot and slightly damaged from his own past, I really appreciated how he was able to step down from his anger when he fully understood the situation and fight for Scottie in a way that felt like he honoured her conflicted feelings about her past. On top of all that, the spice was absolutely spicing in this book. 10/10. No notes.

Thank you Ms Sloane St James and her team at Pan Macmillan for sending this in exchange for an honest review.

I devoured this in less than a day. Need I say more? I am obsessssssed.

I love Scottie and Cal together. Their banter?? Their spark? Their passion? Their bedroom talk? His protectieness? Sign. me. the. fuck. UP.

Callahan KNOWS what he's doing sheesh *fans herself*.

I love that these books are dual POV so we can read how mutually obsessed they are. They are so real for their struggles and mental health issues, but I love that about them. The way they are there for each other is couple goals.

I saw that this book was getting an audiobook and the way I IMMEDIATELY preordered it isn't even funny.

you'd have to fight to get this book out of my hands that what we now know folks. and my eyes were fighting me for sleep as id stayed up early hours of the morning to read and then finish this book. what started as a flu-filled night leading me to sit up and have a little read to get me back to sleep, ended with me seeing the light outside the curtain so i could finish this book.
this is a a book about two people who take quite a few risk and have high risk jobs. lives depend on them. but when it comes to love and maybe because of what they see they aren't so eager to let people in, give people their whole selves. protect the heart against hurts is what these two do and maybe this is going to be taken too far in this book. because when you fall in love with these two and then they split? i tell you your heart will be broken for ever(ok for the rest of the book)
Call is used to saving people. but there have been times where has hasn't been able to. so he lives his life by taking the small wins and never falling in love right? just the one nights for pleasure will do him fine.
that is
until
she comes into his life.
and she is Scottie. the paramedic who he runs into because as you'd imagine their jobs overlaps. and she feels like someone he could drop all his rules and walls for.
but then there comes the misfire. and its all goes to pot. at this point i wanted to cry, scream or just almost swift through to the back of the back because i couldn't handle how these two were tearing me up.
but wait it out. because the rest of the book and then the ending is all you need. truuuuuust me you need to read this book.
i hate the break up tropes. but i also know they are there for a reason and wouldn't have continued if they weren't a semi realistic or needed moments in the romances lives. but the key also comes in how the author writes them. because as readers we hate them more when we actually care so much about the two characters we read them for! so yeh, this one had me shook. but also as i said Sloane took it and did it right. and being who these two were you could totally get it. these two had their pasts, had more trauma than many so when i saw how they reacted to things i did get it.
did i like this book. you bet. and then some. and then some more. so much more.

I will admit that what originally drew me to the Sky Ridge Hotshots series, beyond their incredible covers, was that book 2 is written by Paisley Hope whose books I adore. Book 1, Fight, is written by Sloane St James, an author that’s new to me but I can tell you that having finished it I’ll be seeking out her back catalogue!

I love that this series is 3 interconnected books, penned by different authors. Having finished book 1 I cannot wait to start book 2, and hope to get the opportunity to read book 3.

Fight is Callahan and Prescott’s story. Callahan is a hotshot firefighter who carries the weight of the loss of a former crew member and has lost faith in love following his exes betrayal. Prescott, meanwhile, is trying to escape her past and make a new home for herself in Sky Ridge. The two feel immediate attraction to one another, but some serious miscommunication prevents things from going further. That is until Prescott finds herself in a life or death situation and Callahan comes to her rescue, leaving them snowed in and having to face how they really feel.

I really enjoyed this book and loved that it was duel POV, I’m an absolute sucker for this in books. This is a miscommunication book and do you know what, it worked so well in the way it was done and how early the issues came up. It was that glorious level of frustrating, where you know they’re not seeing things as they should but that the pay off of them coming back together will be all the better for it. The jeopardy that led to their reconciliation was actually really tense and had me so I simply coining out the book down! And then when they get showed in together - brilliant.

I really liked both Callahan and Scottie and how incredibly real they both felt. They’re both incredibly strong individuals, but at the same time are so vulnerable and fragile owing to what they’ve each been through. There are a lot of heavy topics within this book, but they’re all dealt with deftly by St James.

I really enjoyed this and thought it was a great book in its own right and a brilliant start to a series.

SWOON SWOON SWOON.

I absolutely loved this book. The storyline was just phenomenal as-well as the characters backgrounds - learning about wildfire fighters & church cults.. you can tell Paisley went into great detail from the start with the glossary of information regarding equipment used etc!

Callahan with his hard shell exterior after finding his fiancé being bent over the sink, not interested in anything more than a one night stand..

Scottie running away and starting fresh whilst not looking to get any attention drawn to her incase of being found..

Callahan 🤝🏻 Scottie

The mountain scene in the tower watch had me goose bumping.. so glad this book was rushed as it was just the perfect amount of drama! Anyone for battleship? 😏

Such a good book and glad there is another two on kindle unlimited… following more of the wildfire fighters stories! 🙌🏼
