The Weight of Sunshine is an emotionally charged, multigenerational novel about love, ambition, friendship, and the hidden fractures beneath beautiful lives. Advance Praise

“The Weight of Sunshine is a luxurious dispatch of legacy and wealth that stretches from the beaches of California to New York City to the vineyards of Napa. Amid 5-star hotels and sips of Macallan 18, Robin Maguire’s characters never stop feeling real and troubled—and no amount of money can resolve their human conditions. This multi-generational story had me invested and moved until the very last page.”—Dana Calvo, creator of “Good Girls Revolt”

“Robin Maguire has created a world as complicated as it is beautiful. Replete with searing insight into love and its shadow grief, wry humor and views of wine country from northern California to southern France—I tried to savor her book the way you’re supposed to savor a good vintage but ended up devouring it all in one sitting.”—Lola Kirke, author of Wild West Village

“Maguire spins a wild, sometimes-frenetic tale anchored by free spirits whom readers won’t easily forget.”  —Kirkus Reviews

“Smart, romantic, funny, immensely satisfying, and deeply moving, Robin Maguire’s The Weight of Sunshine runs on jet fuel. It launches you into a high-octane world that’s both wildly brash and life-affirming. A great getaway of a novel.”   —Lewis Robinson, author of The Islanders”

The Weight of Sunshine drew me in with its compelling cast and held my attention as their lives unfolded in unexpected ways. I appreciated the way the novel examines the ripple effects of decisions, personal connections, and generational ties without ever feeling forced. The characters are layered and imperfect, making their journeys feel genuine and emotionally resonant. I found myself fully invested in their stories and eager to see where each path would lead. Thoughtfully written and richly developed, this is a novel that lingers in your mind after you've finished it.

This was such a beautiful family saga that spans the past, present, and not too distant future. I loved the unique multiple POV narration. This story is so relatable because it’s a clustering of people that become family in not so average ways but endure what we all do - love, heartbreak, grief. I devoured it in half a day because I just couldn’t stop following where it would go next. The characters are complex and unique but still so relatable. This is a must read! I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Wow, wow, wow! The novel reflects on the weight of Jackson Hart and Nina Rhode's actions one exhilarating evening alter both their lives and those around them.

I am speechless, I truly don't have much to say. This is one of those novels that rewires your brain, and makes you rethink your relationship with others. Each character is unique and flawed, but yet very nuanced and layered. Maguire did a brilliant job of narrating their journeys through life and how the ripple effect of their decisions. Truth be told: I wasn't entirely convinced after the first chapter, but I am so glad I continued because every perspective gets better as you progress in the novel.

Truly a joy to read.

thank you to netgalley, the publisher, and the author for this ARC!!

wow wow wow. the weight of sunshine truly entranced me. this is a story about love, about grief, about the weight of ourselves, and about feelings. this book spans five decades, beginning with our primary main characters, Nina and Jax, their afternoon together and the ripple effects that has on the rest of the story. we are taken through Nina and Jax’s lives separately and together. there is a vast array of characters, bringing their own experiences and feelings around our main characters, propelling the story forward. the story progressed quickly, we jump from rags to wealth through New York, Idaho, San Francisco, Napa, and France. the reader learns of grief, heartbreak, wine, friendship, life and death, wealth and its disparity. I honestly flew through this book, I was so enamored with the characters and story. each character was complex, and their introduction added to the overall plot, the bouncing of their POVs like conversations overlapping at a dinner party. I cannot articulate the emotional rollercoaster I went on reading this. I had parts I laughed at, parts I cried at, parts I wanted to just sit and drink wine with the characters at.

This book was a total roller coaster of emotions. I felt sadness, tension, laughter, joy, and tears. I just didn't want it to end!
The writing style is beautiful and high-end. A true masterpiece. The author doesn't just describe a luxury lifestyle—she weaves it right into the story with elegant vocabulary and French words. It actually made me use a dictionary, and I learned a lot while reading. It is so rare to find writing this good.
I especially loved how real the characters felt. Their emotions and struggles were so deep that I felt like I was watching real people right in front of my eyes.
The story covers so many deep themes across generations, but it kept me hooked from the first page to the very last words. This is a stunning book by a highly talented author. I am still under its spell and will be thinking about it for days. Highly recommend to everyone!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for ARC in exchange for my honest review
