Description

Funny, romantic and a little bit wicked, this is Mhairi McFarlane… with vampires!

I mean hey, what’s the worst that could happen? Ok fine, the worst that could happen is that I didn’t imagine those fangs after all…

Squeaky clean good girl Lucy Partridge is a sucker for heartwarming tales and happy endings. So a weekend reporting on the Whitby Goth Weekend is well outside her comfort zone. As is sharing her tiny annexe accommodation with all six feet three inches of bad boy bar owner Liam Bramwell. And that’s before she discovers that he’s an actual living – or, er, ‘undead’ – vampire!

Logically, Lucy knows she should run the other way, but the reporter in her can tell there’s more to Bram than his fangs. It’s clearly time for this good girl to take a walk on the dark side, and if that path leads her straight into Bram’s muscular tattooed arms? Well, a girl’s got to do what a girl’s got to do…

Funny, romantic and a little bit wicked, this is Mhairi McFarlane… with vampires!

Delightful combination of cozy romance and horror - although the vamps are anything but scary! Lots of snark, amusing self banter, and slow burn sizzle - with some spunky sub plots. Love these characters, can't wait for more ...

This one was FUN and I thoroughly enjoyed every second.

Modern vampires in a seaside English town during Goth Weekend? Immediately yes. Add in one bed forced proximity, opposites attract, and a secretly soft undead hero, and I was completely sold.

Lucy is a sunshine journalist sent to cover Whitby’s Goth Weekend, which is very much not her usual vibe. She’s pastel, sweet, and a chronic people pleaser. Bram is head-to-toe black, tattooed, pierced, and owns a gothic vampire-themed bar. The only slight complication? He’s an actual vampire.

Their first meeting had me laughing out loud. The inner monologues are hilarious, especially Bram’s as he tries to keep his undead status under wraps while very inconveniently falling for Lucy. The tension builds in such a satisfying way, and the slow burn felt cozy rather than angsty.

What I loved most is that they felt like adults. No dramatic overreactions, no frustrating miscommunication spiral. Lucy doesn’t instantly believe the worst. Bram isn’t broody for the sake of it. They talk. They think. They choose each other.

Lucy’s arc especially hit for me. Watching her move from people pleasing to putting herself first, and finding a version of family that feels safe and chosen, was genuinely emotional. And when it wasn’t tugging at my heart, it had me smiling like an idiot at how sweet they were together.

It’s gothic vibes with heart. Vampires with warmth. A romance that feels both a little wicked and completely wholesome.

I will absolutely be back in this world. 🖤🦇

This book was such a vibe! Last year, I went and visited Whitby and it was really neat to read about the same area! It was a cute back and forth kind of book and I loved the vampires and the small feud between bar owners.
Thank you so much for the approval to read this novel!! I will be recommending :)

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Love at First Bite by Katherine Dyson

Love at First Bite was such a refreshing and unexpectedly charming read! Set in the atmospheric town of Whitby in Northern England, the story follows our FMC as she travels there to cover the famous Goth Weekend for her newspaper. What she doesn’t expect is to fall for a dark, broody (and delightfully modern) vampire.

This book is filled with wholesome moments, witty dialogue, and just the right amount of emotional depth. The plot is quirky, engaging, and impossible to put down. I especially loved the playful nods to classic vampirism, and the humour around a newly turned vampire going through their “teenage” phase had me laughing out loud (fangs popping at awkward moments - iykyk).
Dyson’s descriptions of Whitby are vivid and enchanting; they made me want to book a trip immediately. The setting added so much charm and atmosphere to the story.

I don’t often pick up rom‑coms with vampires, usually leaning toward heavier romantasy with centuries old vamps, but this light, uplifting, and genuinely funny read was perfect for spring. I’ll be recommending it to all my bookish friends, and I can’t wait to read more of Katherine Dyson’s work later this year!

Thank you to Netgalley, HarperCollins UK (One More Chapter) and Katherine Dyson for sending me a copy of this E-ARC in exchange for my honest thoughts.
