This was a great read. Loved the premise of the escape room games and the murder mystery combined. Team Helsing were characters you could root for and Iintrigues to see what's in store for them in the follow up. This will have good shelf appeal for our readers and should loan well. Definite purchase for teen collection.
The Escape Game is a reality game show that is now into it's fifth season. However, last year's finale ended in tragedy as one of the contestants Alicia, was found dead on set.
This year Alicia's sister Sierra, also one of last year's puzzle solvers and the main suspect in the case, has been invited to take part again despite having the charges hanging over her. The producers will do anything for views! Will tragedy strike again?
I loved the contestants on the Helsing team, and how they started off on not such good terms but ended up being the best of friends, and worked together to solve Alicia's murder.
What a fantastic read! How the authors came up with all those puzzle room is beyond me, but they pulled it off perfectly. This made for an exciting and fast paced story throughout. I would never has guessed 'whodunit'. A1
This book was a really good time! I suffered a couple of consecutive very late nights as a result of wanting to read “just one more chapter”, but I have absolutely no regrets!
The Escape Game murder mystery adventure with a reality TV show at it’s core. Like The Crystal Maze with a pinch of I'm A Celeb, groups of teens race to complete a series of escape rooms fastest or face elimination. The group of teens we are following includes a returning contestant – the sister of a contestant who was murdered the previous season.
The story kept me guessing all the way to the end, with plenty of peril and excitement thrown in. It’s YA but will definitely have broad appeal. Traitors is having a moment, and I think this is just the sort of book people will want to get their hands on to fill the Traitors-shaped hole in their lives in between series!
What is not to love about this book? It has likeable characters, a murder mystery, escape room puzzles and so many twists and turns. It was such a fun read and I loved that you, as the reader, could try to figure out the clues to the rooms and piece together what had happened to Alicia in the previous season of the show at the same time as the main characters. Despite the quite serious themes at times, I feel that it was written in an age appropriate manner for a YA novel. I really enjoyed the story and would absolutely read a sequel, if there were to be one.
