Description

Windamere's Rose is a compelling historical romance that follows Rose Ashford, a dedicated nurse at the Princess Alexandra Military Hospital, during the harrowing days of World War II. Amidst the chaos of war, Rose crosses paths with Rory Anderson, an Australian soldier suffering from severe burns. As she tends to his wounds, a mysterious connection unfolds between them, centring around the name "Windermere"—a place significant to both but in vastly different ways.

Rory, a rugged and determined soldier from Western Australia, clings to memories of his homeland, while Rose reminisces about her own English Windermere, rich with childhood nostalgia. As their relationship deepens, the two find solace in each other, forging an unspoken bond amidst the horrors of war. However, their love is tested by class differences, personal traumas, and the uncertainties of a post-war future.

When the war ends, Rory invites Rose to leave England behind and start a new life in Australia, a decision that carries both romantic promise and daunting uncertainty. With her beloved Aunt Rosemary's support and encouragement, Rose must confront her fears and determine whether love is enough to bridge the vast divide between their worlds.

This book excites me to read future editions from Barbara Wilson. I was mesmerised all through the book and as a fellow Australian I can relate so deeply and I believe that for those not in Australia they will feel a connection that they hadn’t expected.
