Description
Starting school is both terrifying and exciting for Camilo. He wonders what his new teacher and classmates will think of him. But, as the day unfolds, Camilo has a hard time fitting in. The classroom feels overwhelming, and he battles nerves that make it hard to focus or speak up. He gets distracted, daydreaming about far-away places, and sometimes he forgets that he is in school altogether. But as the day goes on, Camilo discovers unexpected joys.
This heartwarming story captures the challenges of a child with ADHD who has to navigate a busy first day at school.

First day of school for a young kid who appears to be navigating non neurotypical behavior. I love that the author sheds light on this from a child’s perspective. More awareness is always helpful for both children and those who work with children. I did feel like the story ended a bit abruptly without much reflection to wrap it up but it seems there may be other books coming!
There are a lot of things happening in the mind of someone who has ADHD. Having a hard time to focus, a wandering mind and forgetfulness. And for a kid going through that, well that's heavy. This book tells about a kid's first day of school with his ADHD. It's easily to digest and get sympathy over such folks who has one and this book really gives the low down of it. The artwork is good and compliments the written content.

What a great book about Camila’s first day of school and having ADHD. Camilo finds himself distracted and bored during lessons. His mind wanders, and he finds it feels weird to be around others during lunch. He realizes fitting in isn’t easy until recess when he loves playing soccer. There’s still more school after recess, and Camilo realizes what a long day school can be.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the eARC of this book. All opinions are my own.
Camilo is starting school, which is both exciting and scary at the same time. The day ahead of him is filled with challenges, nerves, and even unexpected joys that help him get through his first day of school.
Although I don’t have ADHD (I mean, I don’t exactly know, but I’m pretty sure I don’t 🤷♀😅), I think we can all say that we struggled with paying attention at times in school. I have a very overactive imagination and not a lot of patience, so if the teacher was talking about math or science (ugh, I hate those subjects!) I would stare off into the distance and think about or imagine something that would entertain me until the next topic came up. 😂
So I totally understand when kids have trouble paying attention, and this book is a heartwarming and wonderful story about just that, but mainly about a child who has ADHD who tries to navigate this first day of school with cute illustrations and easy-to-read writing. This story is a great reminder that we need to have grace, compassion, and understanding for all kids (and adults) because we are not all the same. There is nothing wrong with that. Some of us learn differently, and that’s completely okay! The world is a better place when we accept those differences and learn how to live in peace and harmony with one another. Definitely recommend this book for the kids in your life.✌🏻❤

Camilo is a boy with ADHD going to his first day of school. The story gives us a little insight into what happens in his mind. He has some ups and downs, of course. Nice, friendly illustrations. Highly recommend.
I was blessed with an ARC. Thank you, NetGalley. The opinions expressed are my own and unbiased.
A really great book to read for any littles who are about to start their first days at school. It's scary and daunting but that's okay. Really good book to help work through these anxious moments and realise that it's okay to not know what you are doing or be different to everyone else.
I thought this was so sweet! Introducing a character that potentially has undiagosed neurodivergence can be very helpful to parents. It can also be very helpful for kids too, so they won't feel alone. I liked the pictures too they were very cute.
Coming from a mom with a son diagnosed with ADHD at a young age and is now 13, I wish this book was around back then. It’s hard for people to understand that ADHD is more than just having a hard time focusing. Many people miss the symthoms or still minimize it into they just need to pay attention more or they’re too hyper. The author did a great way of explaining it on a child’s level. I even think parents will also learn a thing or too.
It's nice to see that there are more books highlighting topics like these for kids! It's a nice little intro book on a little boy's first day at school and some of the thoughts and the challenges he faces as he feels different from the other kids. The illustrations are pretty and im sure there are kids who can relate to the main character and will find comfort in it!

In My Mind was a thoughtful insite into the mind of children who might think differently or are neurodivergent. It showed how children get scared and fear making mistakes and how somethings are hard and others are easy.
I could definitely relate to the kid in this story. ADHD can make you feel anxious and your brain works somewhat differently than others. I was very much like this kid when I was younger. I'm glad that more books like this are being put out there for children so they know they're not alone and that it is ok to be different. In my Mind is a great story for young kids that talks about the anxiousness fof the first day in school . What I love the most about the story is the main character Camilo who is neourodivergent but hasn't been diagonose yet . From the story we see how his day went and how the first day was filled with nervourness yet how it turned out at the end . Illustrations are beautiful . I highly recommend this book for kids .
Thank you Netgalley and publishers for the E-ARC
A sweet book showing a young boys anxieties and joys related to started school. A great way to normalize typical struggles that children with ADHD & anxiety face and encourage inclusion and care for them!
The book does a great job of helping us understand what’s going on in children’s minds, especially those with special needs. I feel that this story comes from the author’s own concern and care, which helps her deliver the message in a thoughtful and meaningful way.
The story follows Camilo and his time at school, showing how he tries his best to understand the assignments and how challenging it can be for him to do things the same way as others.
Recommended for children aged 5 and above, parents of children with special needs, teachers who work with students with special needs, and anyone who has children with special needs in their community.

This is a great book to share in the classroom and at home with all kinds of kids. It explains why some kids struggle in a typical classroom and can help students who do struggle see themselves.

This picture book does a great job explaining to kids what it's like to live with a brain that thinks or sees things differently. This book clearly demonstrates how the main character is feeling when he experiences things differently than his peers. I loved the line about "how he thought fitting it would be easy but it's hard for him." I think this helps put into words how many children feel. Thank you for thoughtfully putting into words what these children are feeling to help create acceptance and understanding for themselves and for other children in their lives.
This is a beautifully illustrated book that follows a young student with ADHD and how he navigates the different challenges and triumphs of the first day of school. An easily accessible primer for helping young ones understand neurodiversity and learning differences.

I thought that this was a really positive book which helps to show some of the challenged that neurodiverse children might think, or encounter when they start school (in this case a new school where the classes are already set and Camilo has ADHD).
I found that the book was well written, easy to follow and the text was well laid out on the pages. It has some great illustrations that help to bring the story to life and they really did illustrate the feelings that Camilo was going through.
For me this book is a must for Primary Schools - my daughter is at Primary School at the moment and her class also has children that are SEN (Special Education Needs) within in, this helped her understand that they are not really being naughty, they don't think and experience things the same way - something that school doesn't highlight or explain to the other children
It is 4 stars from me for this one - highly recommended!
This picture book shows a child with Attention Deficit Disorder so well! Kids with ADD will feel seen. She shows just how easy it is for the child to get distracted and lost in his thoughts. This book will definitely help caregivers and teachers recognize the issue so that the child gets the acceptance and needed support. It is also a perfect mirror story so that siblings, playmates and classmates can understand the child better. I have seen ADD from different angles. I have raised children with ADD and ADHD, had them in the classroom and grew up undiagnosed in era when it was unheard of. This book is great.
