Description

Tar City chews people up and spits them out.

Sometimes, it swallows.

But Jax?

He owns it. The bar. The streets. The magic he swore he’d never use again.

Until tonight.

Because tonight, Sisk isn’t playing fair.

She walks into his bar—later than promised—and he’s more than furious.

He’s hungry.

And when she dares him…

he remembers why she’s the reason he stays.

The reason he breaks the rules.

This is a 2,700‑word short story that’ll hit just right if you’re into: ROMANCE. MAGIC. BAD DECISIONS.

Read it slow. Let it stain your fingers like spilled whiskey.

And remember—Tar City doesn’t give without taking.

*This short story introduces Jax and Sisk, whose story is now being expanded into the full novel Tar City, releasing in 2026.

A super quick story with an overprotective club owner and a woman who knows her value to him. He has magic and she is his temptation to use what he doesn’t believe he should. This is a darkish quickie about giving everything to one person even when you know you shouldn’t but can’t stop yourself. I think this expanded story would be interesting to see where the magic and story would take us.
The narrator was great and has that gravely voice that adds an element of shadowy gristle to the story.

Oh this was SO GOOD!! I’m so glad to hear we are getting more of their story because this little novella has me absolutely FERAL!!! 👹

Narrator is fantastic. I don’t know if I’ve ever read a book narrated by him before, but I will definitely be seeking more.

I am so excited to see where this story goes and learn more about this world and the characters.

Thank you NetGalley and the author for sending this audiobook for review consideration. All opinions are my own.

This was a short, sexy read with a magical touch and such a great setup for Tar City. The narration was absolute fire and Jax’s poem was so sweet while the spice had me blushing. I already need more of Sisk and Jax and can’t wait to read the next book!

Thank you to Blair M. Shadows for an ALC in exchange for my honest review.

Jason Clarke’s voice is the perfect one for this short but intense short story, full of passion, feelings and dark magic. Looking forward for the next one in the series. Thanks to NetGalley and Leblond publishing for the ALC copy. This is my honest review.

I received the audiobook of this to review from NetGalley and the publisher.
This was a short listen and left me wanting more! Jason Clarke’s voice was pure perfection as Jax, the bartender, who is obsessed with Sisk, the ballerina. It was quick and definitely had some spice. I need to know more back story and what the future holds for them!

Thank you NetGalley and Leblon Publishing for an Audio copy of this deliciously spicy short story. It hooked me so fast I feel left wanting for more of Tar City. I hope the author releases a full novel about it because I will certainly read the heck of out it. It takes talent to complete a full story in 26 short pages or 20 short minutes. Blair M. Shadows had me reeled in to the characters. The narrator was perfection… meow.

I would highly recommend if you are looking for some short and spicy. This is a great story.

First of, this gives off the dark romance energy and hard. Second, you have Jason Clarke narrating, I am there!

This is a short 20 min or so listen preview for an upcoming novel called Tar City. Jax is the bartender, who doesn't really want to be there, but he's there for her (Sisk), and she's there for her parents.

The intensity and a dark place the city's being depicted is really portrayed well by the narrator. I am very interested to read the full novel and see how Jax & Sisk's story develops.

Thank you to NetGalley & Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op & Leblon Publishing for the audio ARC

The Bartender’s Ballerina by Blair M Shadows narrated by Jason Clarke

A short story introducing us to Tar City. We meet Jax the guarded bartender and Sisk the ballerina he is obsessed with.

Jason Clarke’s narration is spot on and really sells the Tar City vibes.

A hint of magic, two characters hot for each other; this introduction scene leaves the reader wanting more.

This blurb had me hooked, and the story delivered and then some! It was quick, sexy, and a little bit unexpected. Jason Clarke is one of the most talented male narrators available to the romance genre, and he nails this performance, leaving the listener wanting so much more.

The narrator did an excellent job on this hands down. It was a great short listen while driving. I cannot wait to read the extended story between these two.
The magic and protection mixed with obsession was just the right amount of need within.

I wouldn't really consider this a short story or even a novella, but more of a sneak peak into an upcoming novel. This was only one scene, but it was well written and very spicy. I look forward to checking out Tar City when it's released. Also, the narrator was the perfect choice for this book and he did a great job bringing this work to life.

This is a quickie in more ways than one. We are introduced to Jax and Sisk with a little back story and a very spicy scene between the two at his bar. Oh and there is magic involved. Their full length story is coming this year.
Jason Clarke is an amazing narrator/voice actor. He can take on any character and is an absolute pleasure to listen to.
First time reading/listening to this author. After this tease I am definitely looking forward to the book and seeing what it is all about!

Thoroughly enjoyed this short book, captivated me from the start. This was my first time reading Blair M Shadows, and it definitely won’t be my last. I’m really excited to read more of Jax and Sisk.

For a novella, it didn't feel rushed, and there was just enough context to understand the world and the characters without sacrificing the pacing. The narration really elevated the experience, feel like this is best experienced as an audiobook. The narrator’s voice, Jason Clarke, suited the main character perfectly, and the timber and gravel in his voice added so much to the atmosphere and embodiment of the Jax.

The pull between the Jax and Sisk was especially compelling and made the story feel so moreish. This was a fab introduction to the author, and I can’t wait to read more about these characters.

From reading other reviews, it seems the author is turning this story into a full-length novel which I am definitely interested in reading.

The narrator had a growl to his narration, an unusual style that definitely fits the character and emphasizes the tone of the story. A bit disorienting since I'm not used to the style, but it grew on me and because it matched the concept so well I ended up liking it. Would be happy for him to narrate the upcoming novel ~

I thought the author did an incredible job of setting the tone and atmosphere of not only this story, but of the city that it takes place in. Kinda like the city is a dark character of it's own.

And honestly....I want to know more about this tar pit that the city is named after.

Of course it is a dark romance, and has a sort of gritty feel to it. Not the sort of setting you would normally see an MMC with magic, so I'm quite intrigued by the premise.

Anyway, a short enjoyable listen with very distinct vibes that for better (cause I enjoyed it) or worse (for my tbr) had me wanting to read the full-length novel that's in the works.

Oh Jason Clark, your voice is poetry in my ears! This was a quick, dangerous, delicious, sexy, intense, morally gray, filled of angst short story. This is a very well written short story that captured from minute 1. I so need more of this story. A temptress dancer and a possessive bartender. Jax and Sisk. It's magic.

This very well narrated short story was satisfying, but still left me wanting for more. Im curious to see what else Blair M Shadows has written now that I’ve read this book, I would love for her to write a sequel! The world building was great and I appreciated the male voice actor not ruining the female parts! I feel like that’s very hard to come by!
