Description
Tar City chews people up and spits them out.
Sometimes, it swallows.
But Jax?
He owns it. The bar. The streets. The magic he swore he’d never use again.
Until tonight.
Because tonight, Sisk isn’t playing fair.
She walks into his bar—later than promised—and he’s more than furious.
He’s hungry.
And when she dares him…
he remembers why she’s the reason he stays.
The reason he breaks the rules.
This is a 2,700‑word short story that’ll hit just right if you’re into: ROMANCE. MAGIC. BAD DECISIONS.
Read it slow. Let it stain your fingers like spilled whiskey.
And remember—Tar City doesn’t give without taking.
*This short story introduces Jax and Sisk, whose story is now being expanded into the full novel Tar City, releasing in 2026.

A super quick story with an overprotective club owner and a woman who knows her value to him. He has magic and she is his temptation to use what he doesn’t believe he should. This is a darkish quickie about giving everything to one person even when you know you shouldn’t but can’t stop yourself. I think this expanded story would be interesting to see where the magic and story would take us.
The narrator was great and has that gravely voice that adds an element of shadowy gristle to the story.

Fun hot short read. Well written and great narrator. Would be super interesting as a longer form novel as well, curious to know more about the world.

Oh this was SO GOOD!! I’m so glad to hear we are getting more of their story because this little novella has me absolutely FERAL!!! 👹
Narrator is fantastic. I don’t know if I’ve ever read a book narrated by him before, but I will definitely be seeking more.
I am so excited to see where this story goes and learn more about this world and the characters.
Thank you NetGalley and the author for sending this audiobook for review consideration. All opinions are my own.
This was a short, sexy read with a magical touch and such a great setup for Tar City. The narration was absolute fire and Jax’s poem was so sweet while the spice had me blushing. I already need more of Sisk and Jax and can’t wait to read the next book!
Thank you to Blair M. Shadows for an ALC in exchange for my honest review.
Jason Clarke’s voice is the perfect one for this short but intense short story, full of passion, feelings and dark magic. Looking forward for the next one in the series. Thanks to NetGalley and Leblond publishing for the ALC copy. This is my honest review.

I received the audiobook of this to review from NetGalley and the publisher.
This was a short listen and left me wanting more! Jason Clarke’s voice was pure perfection as Jax, the bartender, who is obsessed with Sisk, the ballerina. It was quick and definitely had some spice. I need to know more back story and what the future holds for them!
Thank you NetGalley and Leblon Publishing for an Audio copy of this deliciously spicy short story. It hooked me so fast I feel left wanting for more of Tar City. I hope the author releases a full novel about it because I will certainly read the heck of out it. It takes talent to complete a full story in 26 short pages or 20 short minutes. Blair M. Shadows had me reeled in to the characters. The narrator was perfection… meow.
I would highly recommend if you are looking for some short and spicy. This is a great story.
A short story. Fast and filthy.
Read like poetry. Well done.
Leaves you wanting more.
The audio was perfectly narrated and unfolded the connection between a gruff bartender and a ballerina, His pull toward her was palpable. So so hot.

First of, this gives off the dark romance energy and hard. Second, you have Jason Clarke narrating, I am there!
This is a short 20 min or so listen preview for an upcoming novel called Tar City. Jax is the bartender, who doesn't really want to be there, but he's there for her (Sisk), and she's there for her parents.
The intensity and a dark place the city's being depicted is really portrayed well by the narrator. I am very interested to read the full novel and see how Jax & Sisk's story develops.
Thank you to NetGalley & Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op & Leblon Publishing for the audio ARC
This was a quick little teaser for the full length novel, Tar City coming out & a teaser it was!! Wow, I cannot wait to listen to the audio for the full length story! If it was anything like this short teaser then I just know it's going to be great!

This was such a great little taste of something with more to come! This spicy little scene was such a fun way to pull in the reader for a full length book coming soon. I loved the audiobook! Jason Clarke did a fantastic job narrating as Jax. I am so intrigued about the characters, the romance, and the magic and can't wait to learn more and read the full book Tar City when it comes out!
Thank you to the author and Netgalley for the ALC to review!
Firstly, why was this soo short. I was hooked. I did not want it to end. Jason Clarke has the voice an Angel (you know the kind I am talking about). I cannot wait to get more of this!!

A very short story that was so fun to listen! I'm looking forward to the full book. The narrator was excellent with his grave voice and mysterious demeanor.
Well dang! Talk about a tease. I received an ALC through NetGalley and, though it was a tiny taste, it had quite the impact. I would LOVE LOVE LOVE more to this story.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC audiobook in exchange for an honest review. I like a good short story but oh my goodness I couldn't focus on anything but the narrators voice, had to listen to it twice. I really hope he narrates the full novel too because dang that man talk.
A quick but spicy listen—short enough to finish in a sitting, yet punchy enough to stick with you. A perfect palate cleanser between heavier audiobooks
This short story was a quick burst of sultry and seductive! So glad I selected it on a whim. Great choice of narrator! His voice is gravely and sexy, a perfect match for the character he was portraying.

The Bartender’s Ballerina by Blair M Shadows narrated by Jason Clarke
A short story introducing us to Tar City. We meet Jax the guarded bartender and Sisk the ballerina he is obsessed with.
Jason Clarke’s narration is spot on and really sells the Tar City vibes.
A hint of magic, two characters hot for each other; this introduction scene leaves the reader wanting more.
