Will an adventure sailing The River Nile turn the tide for Hattie?

Hattie Mulberry is exhausted. Worn out from the demands of everyone around her, she’s long overdue a break. So, she decides to take a holiday – the adventure of a lifetime, following in the footsteps of her literary hero, Agatha Christie.

Before Hattie knows it, she’s embarking on a glamorous Nile cruise. Not only a voyage steeped in history and world-famous sights, but one where the passengers are almost as fascinating as the views from her luxurious cabin…

As the eclectic band of travellers journey between ancient temples and legendary tombs, guided by handsome Egyptologist Sam, secrets surface, desires awaken, and tensions simmer beneath the Egyptian sun.

Will the magic of moonlit nights on the Nile bring romance and renewal? Or will the infamous curse of Tutankhamun cast a shadow when least expected?

A gloriously escapist read full of sun, secrets and romance, perfect for fans of Sarah Morgan and Judy Leigh.

If you want a holiday to Egypt then buy this book! It’s the cheapest holiday you’ll have with a fully immersive experience- I felt I was there.

There was a cast of an eclectic mix on this cruise and it was such fun learning about them and the good and bad bits of them. I particularly liked Hattie as a character and poor Gerald.

This is really well written and a perfect escapist holiday read. It is filled with romance, warmth and secrets. I highly recommend it.

I always enjoy this author's cruise books with their mix of interesting characters and exotic locations. She also has the knack of bringing back much loved characters from previous books and dropping them into new settings. Hattie is a very nice jolly lady, kind and understanding, and her interactions with her fellow passengers (some much more likeable than others!) come across as genuine and helpful. Everyone ends up with exactly what they deserve... especially Hattie.
A few problems with misplaced text which I am hoping are simply there because I was reading an early ARC version and not the polished final book.

This book is fantastic. By the end of chapter two I was looking for a copy of Death on the Nile and one chapter later I was Googling cruises on the Nile! The author has a core group of characters, each brilliant in their own way. The growing friendships between Hattie and the others is a strength of the book. If you haven’t read the previous books by Caroline James you’re in for a treat!

This was my first book by this author and I would love to read more, this book is like a holiday to Egypt, it is so immersive it feels like you are in the cruise too.

Hattie is a great main character and I loved going along with her journey.

Will she find romance or will the curse of Tutankhamun take over?

Such a great summer read!

I enjoyed my view of a Nile cruise through the eyes of Caroline James’ characters. It is something I’ve often thought I might like to do. Some of the tombs do sound a little spooky though.

Hattie has been one of my favourite of Caroline’s characters since I read The Boomerville Hotel novels and Hattie Goes To Hollywood, so I was thrilled to find her starring in this book.

Caroline has a way of taking you on a journey alongside her characters and has some great one liners to make you giggle. Mystery, intrigue and a few sad moments too.

A great read as always, looking forward to the next ...

Ace read. I learnt so much about the tombs of Egypt . Some great characters. I loved Peter. His imagination was great . I have been on cruises where they make towels into animals. The research for this book must have been great to do. The lost suitcase made me laugh . The duck was cute . One of those books you can’t put down. I loved the idea of following Agatha Christie . Loved the ending .

I loved this book. Hattie was a delightful character who was kind, thoughtful but stood for no nonsense. The lovely blend of cruisers made for an interesting mix of people and stories. The descriptions of the tombs, temples and boats were fantastic and made me want to book a Nile cruise straight away. A bit of romance at the end was the cherry on the cake.

What a lovely book to read on holiday. I thoroughly enjoyed all the characters, especially Hattie, who is an utter delight. She is a kind, thoughtful widow, always looking out for others and making friends wherever she goes. Each of the other characters also added charm to this story. The fact that they were a bit older added to the appeal of this book and that Hattie finds love in her sixties is delightful. I loved hearing about all the history of the Nile as we were transported to another destination and the link to Agatha Christie was another plus. Thanks to NetGalley for allowing me an ARC of The Nile Cruise.

Having read Caroline James’ previous cruise book, I was looking forward to this one and wasn’t disappointed.
The author takes us for a cruise along the Nile, with Hattie recreating the voyage which Agatha Christie enjoyed when writing her book ‘Death on the Nile’.
Characters are well described, Hattie (an avid Agatha Christie fan), Graham and his wife, Peter, who has fantasies believing he is a spy, and Alice along with her son. The scenery and sites they view along their journey bring the settings alive, and you feel you are sailing along with them. Visits to the Valley of the Kings, feluccas with sails billowing gliding along the Nile, viewing the ship described in Agatha Christie’s novel, make an immersive, atmospheric setting.
I became invested in the complex mix of characters, each having their own story to tell which are explored as the story unfolds. The banter between characters bringing humour to this lighthearted story.
I thoroughly enjoyed the story and couldn’t put this book down.

I read an eARC of this book on NetGalley so thank you to the author and the publisher.

This is a sweet and nice book. I really liked how vibrant the main character was and how thoughtful she was, she looks after others, sharing her clothes and medicine with other passengers in need. Our main character is a private investigator who needs to leave her home while her bathroom is being redone. She decides to take a holiday, picking a Nile cruise due to her love of Agatha Christie. The nods to Christie and the affection from the character was lovely to see. This was really nicely integrated and gave some great colour to the character’s experience on her holiday.

There is a subtle element of mystery, but it’s quite light with the main focus being around travel, growing friendships, blossoming affection and the power of being nice to people.

The travel elements are fun with a vivid picture of the locations and travel painted for the reader. I liked that the main character was in her sixties and how much life experience and depth of character she had. There were some fun little details like her growing animal collection and banter with her handyman.

I absolutely loved this book, full of amazing characters and settings.
Hattie is taking a break and enjoying the trip of a lifetime, following her heroine Agatha Christie experiences. She's a larger than life character with a wonderful, colourful holiday wardrobe She takes an interest in everyone and makes new friends. She enjoys all of the trips and samples the spas and pools and really takes advantage of everything Egypt has to offer.
A wonderful story taking in the sights , enjoying new friendships, the hint of romance and a mystery to solve.

As a fan of both rom-coms and travel fiction, The Nile Cruise by Caroline James was a delightful escape. Set against the stunning backdrop of Egypt, the novel combines humour, romance and adventure in equal measure. James brings the sights and atmosphere of a Nile cruise vividly to life, making readers feel as though they're travelling alongside the characters. The cast is warm and engaging, with plenty of laugh-out-loud moments, touching friendships and a charming romantic storyline. Light, uplifting, and packed with wanderlust, this is the perfect holiday read for anyone who enjoys feel-good romance with an exotic setting.

A delightful, cozy, leisurely read; a character-driven story that doesn’t have a huge plot (some might complain about this aspect). There are some elements/characters that we probably could have done without, such as Drake the duck and Peter’s estranged wife Mary, but they don’t really detract from the story, so it’s fine.

It was lovely to read about the different sites and stops the cruise makes in Upper Egypt. It made me long to return to Egypt, where I lived a few years of my childhood. Funnily enough, the author’s depiction of the local Egyptian vendors and “helpers” at the sites is exactly as I remember them acting from my younger years. It’s clear that the author has actually been to Egypt and wasn’t just making it all up from reading books!

A lovely mix of gentle romance, friendship and Egyptian tourism. Hattie leads this cruise and the holidays life follows her lead with warring couples, unhappy and uncertain offspring and a butcher who might be James Bond. As the holiday goes on, things unravel with Hattie on hand to ensure things don’t get too messy.
This is a cozy plot with tenderness and the growth of friendship and confidence is lovely. On top of that you can’t go wrong with a pet duck.

The Nile Cruise by Caroline James is a wonderful light-hearted contemporary novel that I adored from the start.
With the leading characters in their sixties, we see that you are never too old to have fun, nor to have a new beginning.
We see characters pretending to be someone else. One needs an escape from daily life. Another is trying to work out who he is, and how to tell his parents. “And what do you want, Ezra” she asked… “I want to be myself… The person I was meant to be.”
When he plucks up the courage, he finds that his parents love him for just who he is, and who he was created to be. Their love is unconditional. “Who you love isn’t as important as how you love.” Love with your whole heart.
We meet characters who have lost the loves of their lives. One has made a terrible rebound marriage but his eyes are opened to the gold-digger beside him.
Love strikes where it will. Characters have a good moral code and a deep friendship blossoms.
The leading lady exudes warmth and kindness. She sees the marginalised. “Hattie was so warm and friendly and turned every mishap into a reminder that life needn’t be taken too seriously.” When a down-trodden character sees her true nature, he describes her as feeling “the aching relief of being with someone who made the world gentle again, unlike the sharp, demanding world he knew now.” We all want someone to love us for who we are.
As the cruise travels down the Nile, the characters stop off at various points. The reader is educated about the ancient Egyptians as we read. We learn the importance of making memories. “Life should give us moments that make dreams come true… make sure you put them in your memory bank for the days when living them is no longer possible.”
The Muslims value mothers. “A mother is a blessing… In our culture, we say paradise lies at the feet of our mothers. Every day they give life through their care and sacrifice.” The mother-like character cares for all those she comes into contact with. Her large bag has a remedy for whatever ails you. Kindness seeps from her pores.
The Nile Cruise was such a delightfully fun novel. I never wanted it to end.
I received a free copy via Rachel’s Random Resources for a blog tour. A favourable review was not required. All opinions are my own.

Another brilliant cruising read from the wonderful Caroline James.

This time we are cruising through Egypt with a fantastic bunch of eclectic characters. I loved how they all had different stories to reveal and how firm friendships were made as the cruise progressed. Gerald was my favourite character and I loved how he grew as a character.

The setting was excellent and I loved reading about all the different excursions and places they visited. I really felt like I was there with them.

A fantastic 5 star read which I would definitely recommend. My only complaint is that Ducky Delaney was not on board.

Thanks to NetGalley, Caroline James and Avon Books UK for an advance copy in exchange for an honest and unbiased review,

Read and reviewed in exchange for a free copy from NetGalley. I really enjoyed James' last book, the Arctic Cruise, so was excited to read 'The Nile Cruise.' James reliably makes cruising sound great, even for someone like me, who, while enjoying travel, can't bear the idea of a cruise. The reader was transported to the sumptous settings and I felt like I was with Hattie and those she met on the cruise. While I didn't really see the point of Peter's characterisation for much of the book, his ending was satisfying, although I was not as invested as I was with Hattie and the others. I'm already looking forward to my next trip with Caroline James.

Caroline James knows how to write stories that makes me smile. with characters that bring a smile to my lips as well as my soul. i loved escaping with this one. and escape to a place i shall never get to see but somehow feel like i have within this book.it felt like we were looking around at the views alongside Hattie and the other characters.
the mix of characters is done so well. they all have their own voices and personalities and i loved getting to know every single one of them. i think it captured some of that light joy and mystery that an Agatha novel brings. the interactions between all the character is like you are another one of them sitting, standing and experiencing things with them.
this had me googling locations throughout. cruising isn't something ive ever wanted to do. but in Caroline's books she makes it feels so tempting. but perhaps not on one with a curse and a few people who might have questionable intentions or likeability.
this was the perfect Sunday read that i could just sit in our own sun and feel like id been swept away. books like this always feel important to me. because they have to be done well. and they have to have layers to them whilst still keeping the balance of emotional and core feeling you get from reading. and for me with Caroline i always end up feeling uplifted. better about life if only while immersed in her reads.

Love how this author takes the reader on a journey via their descriptive writing and makes you feel like you are there in the moment. In this instance you feel like you have taken a trip down the Nile and actually travelled to Egypt as the sights and the sounds etc emanate off the page.

The Nile Cruise features an eclectic mix of characters and love that they are of the older generation and show that you can still have a zest for life even as you are getting older. Hattie and Gerald were engaging fun characters and loved reading about their antics and enjoyed the links to Agatha Christie which were interwoven into the story too with the perfect balance of mystery and romance.

Look forward to seeing where the author takes me on a cruise in their next book.
