This novel is whimsical, fun, and fast paced. It involves a genie who was cursed to inhabit a vintage purse until the witch’s spell that trapped him inside can be ended. He targets Langley Roberts, the unsuspecting new owner of the purse. Langley is at first unsympathetic toward Russell, the genie, but he is eventually able to get her on his size.

Now, the two of them will try to break the curse, but it’s easier said than done. This book is a clever mixture of modern sensibilities with a classic fairy tale structure. It’s wholly original, and readers should have a fabulous time watching Langley and Russell play off of each other like a mismatched odd couple.

Love Cursed by Gail Johnson is a charming blend of contemporary romance, time-travel magic, and a touch of mystery. The story kicks off with a unique premise—a genie trapped by a witch’s spell and a modern-day heroine who definitely didn’t sign up to fix it—and builds into a light, engaging adventure.

Langley is a refreshing lead, using brains, heart, and a bit of sass to navigate a situation that’s way outside her normal world. The dynamic between her and Russ is entertaining, especially with his outdated views clashing against her independence. Their chemistry grows as they work together to unravel both the spell and a much bigger, more dangerous curse.

The mix of romance, magic, and mystery keeps the story moving, and the Kentucky setting adds a nice, grounded contrast to the supernatural elements.

Overall, it’s an easy, enjoyable read with a little humor, a little magic, and a lot of heart. Perfect for readers who like their romance with a supernatural twist and a strong, capable heroine at the center.
