Description
A duty-bound prince of flame. A woman shrouded in secrets. And an enemy, deep in the shadows…
When a dark prophecy is stolen from the impenetrable Royal Archives of Emberlyn, Owen Sterling—Prince and Commander of the Ignis Guard—is dispatched with his team to retrieve it. They soon discover the thief is an Obscurem, one of the vicious shadow beasts that have plagued the kingdom for centuries. But how could a creature with such mindless, violent instincts breach their wards?
As they hunt the beast, Owen and his guard stumble upon a woman, battered and left for dead in the wake of an Obscurem attack. She’s secretive and scared, with a sharp tongue, and Owen finds himself drawn to her despite his better judgement. But as the trail to their prey becomes ever more treacherous, they realize that the growing number of Obscurem crossing the Dark Border may not be the only threat to the kingdom…
Beneath the Burning Throne is the first book in the Kingdom of Shadows romantasy series.

“Dierne. It means secret in the old language. You are a mystery—a mystery I intend to solve. And I always get my way, one way or another.“
✨ Enemies-to-lovers
✨ Captor × captive tension and chemistry
✨ Forced Proximity
✨ Found family and banter
✨ Magic and prophecy
I thoroughly enjoyed being emotionally devastated by this story.
From the very first chapter, I was completely hooked. I loved how the majority of the story was from Owen’s POV, and the captor × captive dynamic had me gripping my Kindle.
“He said I wasn’t a prisoner, yet I wasn’t allowed to leave.”
Elira is a standout, she’s mysterious, strong, and full of edge. I loved seeing her learn more about herself, while still keeping her independence and sharp mind.
“There really was something about her, though. Something I couldn’t figure out. Like the way her resolve never wavered, despite whatever it was she endured. I was convinced she knew more than she let on; she must have known more. I needed her to.”
The Ignis Guard’s found family dynamic is phenomenal. Their banter is sharp, funny, and fierce, balancing darker, emotional moments beautifully. I am SO invested in these characters and there are parts that truly made me gasp out loud.
“She was quickly becoming one of us, whether she liked it or not. And no one seemed to mind. No one had ever blended in with us so seamlessly like this before.”
Owen and Elira’s relationship is absolutely magnetic. Their chemistry is electric, full of tension and moments that make your heart race.
“It felt like fire and earth and wind. Inevitable. Like the world hadn’t made sense until now, until him. Nothing had made sense.”
You can feel the pull between them building naturally, the slow burn and stakes making every interaction charged and impossible to ignore.
“Once we’d crossed that line, I knew in my soul we’d never be the same. The smart thing would have been to stop it. To dig deep for every ounce of restraint I had and tell her to leave, knowing it would hollow me out. A better man might have had that strength, but I was not that man.”
The Obscurem are actually scary, the stakes are high, and the pacing keeps you flipping pages. Every twist, every reveal, and every moment of banter hit perfectly. I couldn’t put this down, and I am beyond ready for the next book.
Chaos, vibes, and opinions are all my own ✨ please give credit if you share.
🔥 I had become the storm no king, no curse, could ever quell. 🔥
This book exceeded my expectations by miles!!!
Beneath The Burning Throne is a romantasy that will send you on a wild ride. A super interesting magic system, a fire wielding prince, a woman who can't remember who she is, a dark prophecy and very intriguing shadow monsters.
I devoured this entire book in two days, I literally couldn't put it down. This story is fast paced and well written with multiple povs. We love an older fmc (30+) who's feisty and stands her ground. A delicious mmc with a "who did this to you" moment and a fiery temper.
We get found family, which I love because Im attached to every single one of the Ignis Guard members. Their friendship and dedication to each other is such a great addition to the story and I loved each of their different magics that contribute to the team. I also really enjoyed the twists by the end of the book, I had big time theories, some where right and some were way off and by the time I finished the book I was left devastated, hopeful and reeling with what I just experienced!
I absolutely enjoyed this book and cannot WAIT for book two so I can get answers to new questions and find out of I'm wrong about another theory that I refuse to drop 🤣
