Description

Birdie Isaac's life plan is officially off the rails. With her thirtieth birthday looming, no romantic prospects, and a dream of motherhood slipping away, she's down to one last, desperate option: a decade-old pact made with her estranged childhood friend, Silas Beckett.

There's just one hitch: Silas is now a superstar baseball player with a Playboy reputation, and their friendship is a distant memory.

Still, he agrees to their clinical, business-like plan: have a baby through fertility treatments, co-parent as best friends, and keep their hearts strictly out of the equation.

But through sterile waiting rooms and late-night hormone shots, the old intimacy that once defined them rekindles into something deeper and far more dangerous. As the line between platonic and passionate blurs, their carefully constructed plan begins to fail in more ways than one.

When they're left with nothing but failed treatments and inconvenient feelings, they have to face the fact that what they really want might not be a baby, but each other.

Childhood best friends to lovers you’ll never forget.

Birdie Isaac's life plan is officially off the rails. With her thirtieth birthday looming, no romantic prospects, and a dream of motherhood slipping away, she's down to one last, desperate option: a...

A sports romance, slowish burn, friends to lovers, both in love with each other for years???

YES YES YES!

I honestly really loved this book. I don’t find myself picking up
contemporary romance as much as i should but this book has just sent me on a path to do just that.

The love between Silas and Birdie is just… it feels like when you were little and your parents used to carry you to bed after you ‘fell asleep in the car.”

I love love so much , and these books just make it better. There is never anything better than a man written by a woman.

The story line was so beautifully written. The way that multiple hard life events were written into this book with such care and consideration, i love that.

And the ending … i loved that ending. ❤️‍🔥

I can’t wait for book 2

Birdie has been in love with her best friend since she was 13, but when she finally got the courage to confess her love to him a year ago, only to be ghosted, she realized she needed to move on without him. As she approaches her 30th birthday, the determination to become a mother becomes less of a wish and more of a necessity as she realizes she’s running out of time. When her best friend suddenly reappears in her life, he reminds her of a pact they made in college, that if they were single at age 30, they would have a family together, as friends.

Silas may be a superstar baseball player, but has spent his life trying to live up to his mother’s expectations, and suffering in his father’s shadow. His one constant for over a decade has been Birdie, until one night a year ago changed everything. As he struggled with his new reality, it was easier to stay away than to seek shelter in her, but when he is traded to a team in her city, he hopes for a chance at redemption. When she drunkenly tells him about her wish to have a baby, he sees it as an opportunity to keep her tied to him, hoping that one day she’ll feel the same way he does.

I received an early copy of this book from NetGalley and really enjoyed it. Amidst all the miscommunications, it becomes clear early on how much Birdie and Silas love each other, and while having a baby together may have been the catalyst to force them to spend time together again, them ending up together was inevitable. While much of the book referred to what happened in Boston a year ago, I was disappointed that it was not actually addressed in the story. Although Silas’ secret clearly came out, I really hoped that we would get to be a part of the conversation regarding what happened with Birdie’s love confession. Considering the amount of detail provided in the book, the ending felt very rushed, like once Birdie found out Silas’ diagnosis, the story was over, minus the chapter about her birthday.

First comes Love ARC review
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 stars
I devoured this book within 24hrs and couldn’t get enough of it. This book follows two best friends who reunite after they grew apart for a year.

Once they are reunited, they continue to yearn for each other but with both of them holding onto secrets about what really happened a year ago that led them to falling out of contact, they struggle to stay away from each other.

I love the way Penny wrote this book and how she graciously approached topics such as infertility, adoption and diabetes.

100% recommend!
