​If you love fantasy books with dragons and classic quest vibes, you should check out Seer of Prophecy by Charles Birkett. The story has a really unique setup with a village seer who accidentally opens a magical portal and has to help form an alliance to save her home. The pacing is quick, the magic system is highly engaging, and the dragons are a ton of fun to read about.

I liked the premise of the book, a seer who although reviled carries on healing and caring for the people of their village. Then Seraphina is tricked into allowing enemies to cross into her world with devastating consequences. This story follows her adventures, those of her friend Ana and the son of the queen's General as they strive to protect their world.

I felt the book was possibly aimed more towards younger readers than myself and it was a bit lacking as a result. Or, perhaps it was structured like a game would be, it certainly felt a bit D&D-like. Maybe I will read the next book, just to see what Seraphina does next and how those around her, who care for her respond.

I initially requested this book because the fmc was being described as too anxious - and lately my anxiety has reached an all time high so I was hoping to find a relatable character.
My expectations weren’t quite met and I was disappointed that anxiety was more of an after thought that a debilitating problem.
I obviously could’ve overlooked this aspect but the dialogues between characters were unnatural and the story felt too convenient for me. She refuses to leave with her childhood friend because she’s too anxious, but immediately accepts to leave with a total stranger in the middle of the night.
The characters weren’t following any character arc, so they kept doing very random things and this made it impossible to grasp any motives or intentions.
It was a lot of telling rather than showing.
A goblin war is a very interesting concept that could’ve been explored more.

Overall I think this had a unique & ambitious idea, it just didn’t quite meet my expectations. Reading is subjective and I always recommend reading to know if it’s for you or not!
