A conspiracy thriller with an unusual premise and loosely based on fact. I felt the storytelling was rushed in places and the characters not fully developed. However, the writing was thoughtful and the narrative pace kept me hooked til the end.

This is a highly original novel with an incredible premise. It's an author's job, at times, to make the incredible credible. Danny Singer does just that. The plot unravels in many locations over an extended period with the use of flashbacks. There are twists and a satisfying ending, making for a great read.

For the most part I felt confused.
I had a hard time getting into this book. So many characters being introduced the first half of the book, and POVs, jumping back and forth between different years. I believe a lot of research has been done in order to write this book so if you like loads of technical details you'd love this.

Really enjoyed this story, very very believable with likeable characters.
Felt the ending could have continued for another 50 pages or so as it seemed a bit rushed, but other than that a really good read.

Project Lazarus is the brainchild of James, a former MI6 officer who wants to give 277 passengers and 12 crew, a new identity and escape from their groundhog existence, by placing them all on a commercial plane, which after just one hour after take off mysteriosly disappears and assumed crashed.

They are all safely taken to an abandoned airbase in Tajikistan. There are parallel timelines where we are shown how deeply damaged these poor souls are and are prepared to leave everything and everyone behind to be reborn into their new lives. Unbeknown to them all, Truman, a conspiracy theorist with the use of AI tools is determined to track them down.

This is a story of despair,hope, rebirth, love and survival which tugged at my heart. This conspiracy thriller may even be happening in reality, as the words have appeared on these pages.

Nothing Left to Lose is one of those rare thrillers that manages to be both high‑concept and deeply human. Danny Singer takes a premise that could easily veer into the sensational—a vanished flight, a covert reinvention program, an abandoned Soviet airbase—and instead crafts a story that feels grounded, emotional, and surprisingly intimate.

I picked up Nothing Left to Lose because it promised one of my favorite thriller setups: a missing plane, a global conspiracy, and a mystery that seemed far bigger than any one person. Add an international setting and the tantalizing premise of Project Lazarus secret initiative offering people the chance to disappear and start over and I was immediately sold.

What surprised me was that this wasn't the adrenaline-fueled thriller I had imagined. Instead, it's a much more character-driven story, one that spends as much time exploring grief, regret, identity, and second chances as it does unraveling the mystery itself.

At first, this threw me off. I kept waiting for the plot to accelerate, while the novel seemed more interested in introducing new perspectives, new timelines, and new pieces of emotional baggage.

The structure was probably my biggest challenge with the book. There are a lot of characters, frequent shifts in perspective, and enough flashbacks to occasionally make the timeline feel disjointed. There were moments when I found myself wishing the story had been more streamlined, allowing the central mystery to take center stage.

That said, the concept behind Project Lazarus is genuinely fascinating. The idea that someone could willingly abandon their entire life and start over elsewhere raises so many interesting questions about identity and whether it's ever truly possible to escape your past. The novel is at its strongest when it leans into those themes.

One thing I absolutely loved was the sense of travel woven throughout the story. This book hops across countries and continents with ease, creating a genuinely global atmosphere. Even during sections where the pacing slowed, I was never bored by the settings. It felt like a thriller, a character study, and a travelogue all rolled into one.

And then came the final 30%.

Suddenly, everything clicked into place. The various threads began converging, the stakes felt sharper, and the story finally delivered much of the intrigue and momentum I had been hoping for from the start. Looking back, that strong finish elevated my entire reading experience. While I still think the middle could have been tighter, the payoff made me appreciate the journey more than I expected.

Nothing Left to Lose may not have been the thriller I anticipated, but it ended up being a thoughtful exploration of reinvention, desperation, and the human desire for a second chance. It stumbled at times, but its ambitious premise, global scope, and satisfying final stretch ultimately won me over.

I admit that I was drawn to Nothing Left To Lose as soon as I saw that plane on the cover... Then I read the blurb, and I knew I HAD to add this book to my TBR. I do love a thriller with an international setting as well as a story with plenty of action and intrigue, and the premise of this book sounded fascinating... I found myself looking forward to learn more about Project Lazarus and its recruits. Sadly I do have to say that I ended up having mixed thoughts about this book, and it didn't quite hit the mark for me completely.

I think part of what went wrong here was that I was expecting a full blown action thriller, and Nothing Left To Lose turned out to be a lot more character driven instead. This book uses a multiple POV structure, and there are a LOT of different characters to keep apart. This definitely slows down the pace considerably, and the fact that some only play a minor role and pop up just once can get really annoying. There is also an overdose of flashbacks featuring a wide variety of different characters; these flashbacks not only slow down the pace even more, but the majority only provided background for some of the characters and distracted from the more present events. The fact that the plot constantly jumped back and forth in time almost gave me a whiplash to be honest.

There is one thing for sure though, and that is that Nothing Left To Lose is a fantastic book for bookish travel. This story takes you all over the world, and multiple destinations have more in dept scenes (mainly in the flashbacks). The international destinations definitely partially redeemed this story for me. I also liked the idea behind Project Lazarus; how it ended up being created and why certain people would sign up for it. I just think I would have enjoyed it more if the plot had been told in a more linear way... It sure would have made the plot feel more cohesive.

There is a lot about the plot that isn't exactly credible, and you definitely have to be able to suspend your disbelief to be able to enjoy certain aspects of the plot. I personally didn't mind too much, as it was mainly related to the part that was the most action-focused and quite entertaining to read. The majority of the characters are quite flawed and not exactly easy to like, but it's not like the most stable person would sign up for Project Lazarus in the first place... Like the creators say themselves: you have to be desperate to be able to give up your whole life.

All in all there were things I liked about Nothing Left To Lose and there were other elements that didn't work as well... And the result is a book that ended up being middle-of-the-road for me. The bookish travel was excellent though!

It trades predictable formulas for a fascinating look at second chances and the impossibility of escaping the past. For readers who enjoy intricate conspiracy theories and unexplained mysteries, and who don't mind navigating a beautifully tangled, slow-burn maze, this original ride earns a well-deserved 4 stars.

I was really intrigued by the premise of this book but the execution didn’t quite live up to expectations sadly. The last 30% or so was better and faster paced, but the first 70% was very slow and confusing. I felt there were way too many characters to keep track off, most of whom have no real relevance or impact on the actual story, and the constant time hops to tell the individual stories were all over the place and unnecessary. I appreciate some background is definitely needed for the story to make sense, but there felt like a lot of filler which could’ve been cut, and you would have ended up with a much faster paced, exciting story.

Flight MH370 most will know about the mysterious flight that disappeared after departing Kuala Lumpur some years ago and some like me have read several books, non fiction, and watched Docu’s trying to get a handle on what happened and waiting for that elusive never found answer

I originally thought this was another non fiction work on the doomed flight but then realised this was fiction on a flight MH066 ( but possibly based around similar events re MH370 ) the authors highly original idea of what happened to this fictitious flight….and dare I say kinda believable too, I did wonder throughout if it could be true ( the sign of a well written book I guess )

To say anymore would ruin it tbh but it is a very VERY interesting read and a good work of fiction……

Anyone with a passing interest in unexplained mysteries will enjoy and be challenged by this story

This book is unique, emotional, thrilling and highly believable. When I first started it I thought it sounded like non fiction but it's not, The writing is intense and gripping. On the surface it is excellent quality and exciting.

Can you truly escape your past, start fresh or does the past always catch up with you in the end.

This is a unique thriller book, I've never read anything like this before. It was intriguing, interesting, emotional, tense, mysterious. It really makes you think about everything in life.
From the first chapter it really pulls you in, making you think a plane is about to go down and crash, then you start to realise this story is going to go in a completely different direction to what you thought.

His debut novel?! Are you kidding me?!

How is it possible for someone’s debut to be this talented?!

I’ll be honest: at the beginning, I had absolutely ZERO understanding of what was going on or who the hundreds of characters were. But stick with it, because it gets so good, so fast.

Once everything starts falling into place, I was completely hooked. The storytelling, the characters, the twists — I was all in.

My only tiny criticism is that I found the ending a little abrupt. I kept waiting for that final kicker that never quite came. But honestly, I think that might just be a me thing.

What an incredible debut. Danny Singer, you’ve set the bar high.

Nothing left to lose by Danny Singer had the makings of a really good story. An airliner supposedly disappearing mid-flight and everyone fearing the worse but then - well I won’t spoil it for you.

The problem for me was that once the framework of the novel had been set out we then had to look into a great deal of background and backstory and this is where the novel stalled. Each backstory lacked any great depth or thread as there were so many of them.

Sorry but this novel never took off for me, it lacked excitement and pace.

Brilliant, just brilliant! This is a book for lovers of Black Mirror & John Marrs books - a touch of believable hidden in unreality. The basic premise is to be able to escape from life without actually dying - something most of us think about from time to time…. The story is well written with elements of humour, the characters are interesting and the whole thing appears to be possible…..

Imagine discovering that the passengers on a vanished flight hadn't died at all. They'd chosen to disappear.

That idea behind Nothing Left to Lose fascinated me. Flight MH066 vanishes shortly after leaving Kuala Lumpur and is presumed lost, but its passengers are actually being taken to an abandoned Soviet airbase as part of Project Lazarus. They've essentially been offered the chance to walk away from their lives and start again as somebody else.

I spent so much of this book wondering whether I'd actually take that opportunity. It sounds incredibly tempting when you think about leaving every problem behind, but the more we learn about the people involved, the more complicated that question becomes. Can you really start again when you're still carrying everything that happened to you?

There are quite a few characters to follow, but I enjoyed seeing how their seemingly separate stories gradually came together. Truman was particularly interesting, as his determination to prove the passengers survived takes him increasingly deeper into the mystery. The use of AI in his investigation also gave the conspiracy side of the story a more current feel.

What surprised me was how much emotion there is amongst all the secrecy. Pauline, Rami and Amara bring very different reasons for wanting another life, and their stories made Project Lazarus feel less like a clever thriller concept and more like something involving actual people making enormous decisions.

It's certainly one of the more unusual thriller premises I've read recently. Strange enough to make you question how it could possibly work, but believable enough to make you wonder whether somewhere, somehow, it actually could.
