What a fun novel! I don't think I've been this engrossed in the twists and turns of the plot for a fantasy novel for years. Don't get me wrong--it's character driven--but the ground kept shifting out from under me as the main characters continually try to find a home, a life, and ultimately meaning in a world that's often unfair. The novel itself is hopeful, despite repeated setbacks--it will leave you at the edge of your seat rather than whimpering in a corner. What an extraordinary debut for an author.
