Description

A hilarious, spicy, fast short listen with banter and a grumpy, growly mafia boss. Duet narrated and delicious!

I shouldn't have pretended to be a hitman, and now the mafia boss is obsessed.

My brother made me join a super anonymous messaging service, and when I teased him about being a spy or in the mob, I thought it was a joke. I even changed my profile pic to a skull, and my name to Bunny the Killer.

Then I get added to a mafia group chat, with my brother and tattooed men in suits.

The Kingpin messages me privately. He wants to know who I am.

I can't put my brother in danger by revealing his mistake, so I play along.

But the mafia boss isn’t convinced. He says he’s going to track me down, and make me pay.

I ghost him.

And I think that’s the end.

Until the gifts begin to arrive.

Messages from the mafia boss is a spicy and hilarious age gap romcom novella with a possessive and obsessed Kingpin and his innocent girl.

Duet narrated by growly Shane East and sweet Evelyn Rose.

This book has everything you want from a quick maffia romance. A little danger, a little flirting, a kidnapping... And yet everything is always completely consensual.

Be prepared for delicious spice and a virgin fmc with a dom maffia daddy.

Also holy shit the male narrator , fucking hell the growl in his voice. 🥵🥵🥵🥵

Pleasantly surprised and happy that I got this arc! Thanks netgalley

Messages from the Mafia Boss by Evie Rose
Audiobook narrated by Shane East and Evelyn Rose

Another enjoyable mafia novella. Nina’s brother accidentally adds her to the mafia group chat. There Nina begins to message with Blake, the Mafia Boss and things get steamy.

Narrators carried the story well.

Instalove, age gap, virgin FMC, Mafia Boss MMC

What a truly funny book. I laughed out loud often during this short read. The FMC may not be who she says she is. The MMC may have caught on. This novella is sweet as can be. The banter is superb. The story moved along really quickly and was easy to read. There is plenty of spice. I read/listened to this short book and LOVED the narrator’s voices. I loved this story and want more like it. I would definitely recommend this book/audiobook.

I hit Read Now because it was Evie Rose and Shane East was right there on the cover in big print. Correct decision. Dangerous man voice included.

I literally did not even read the description because it doesn't matter. Everything I've read from this author I've absolutely loved and honestly the best way to experience Evie Rose's writing is in audio. It never disappoints.

This is short, but Evie Rose is really good at writing short, spicy setups that don’t feel empty. The accidental mafia group chat setup is ridiculous in the best way: Bunny the Killer, “death’s apprentice,” “Disposer of humans,” “cancel their oxygen subscription,” and a mafia boss slowly getting way too attached to the girl in his DMs. The banter is 10/10, the tension builds fast, and the spice grows out of the messages, teasing, praise, and possessiveness.

Also: do not just read the book. Buy the audiobook. Bookmark chapter 13. Shane East makes sounds that turn the 15-second rewind button into broken rewind button. Short, hot, funny, unhinged, and addictive.

4.25⭐️ I love Evie Rose books because there's no fluff, you're just diving straight in to the action, romance and spice. With some of the best narration.

☑️ Accidentally get added to the mafia group chat
☑️ Accept a job which you are unqualified and have absolutely no experience in
☑️ Short
☑️ Sweet
☑️ Spicy
☑️ Curvy FMC

Messages from the Mafia Boss is a very fun novella! At 152 pages, or about 3 and a half hours for the audiobook, it focuses on the spicy romance between the two main characters, Nina and Blake. There aren't any subplots that distract from that focus. With one of Evie Rose's romcom novellas, you know you're not getting a slowburn, but they're always guaranteed to be funny as well as spicy.

The duet narration between Shane East and Evelyn Rose is perfection for this novella. Shane East is at his growly best, and Evelyn Rose is so good as the sweet and funny Nina. If you like flirty banter and spicy times, try this novella, particularly the audiobook format!

Super fun and quick read!

Filled with instalust that builds at a good pace. Nina’s brother is overprotective and makes her join a secret and very private group chat program so he can keep her safe. What he didn’t realize, was that he accidentally linked her to his mafia chat group and she isn’t aware he’s working for them. As a joke, she creates the screen name Bunny the Killer, and very quickly, the mafia boss, Blake tries to figure out who Bunny is. They start private messaging and things get heated.

Perfect blend of humor, spice, yearning and on his knees for her.

Loved the narrators. Big fan of Shane East and Evelyn Rose. thanks to NetGalley for the ALC to review. Highly recommend this book.

One of the best audio books i've EVER listened to!!! Between me and you, it left me with wet panties. To be honest though, i'm not 100% sure whether I was just moist from Shane East's panty dropping growl or if I pee'd a little I was laughing so hard.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an advanced listening copy in exchange for an honest review.

If you’re looking for a short, spicy mafia romance with obsessive energy, hilarious banter, and enough dirty talk to have you fanning yourself, this one absolutely delivers. The text-message format kept the story moving at a fast pace, but I never felt like the romance suffered because of it. This was one of those audiobooks that was just plain fun to listen to, and I found myself smiling, laughing, and occasionally sitting there with my mouth hanging open wondering, did he really just say that?

The chemistry between these two was off the charts. The age gap, mafia setting, “he falls first,” and possessive-but-devoted MMC all worked for me. I also have to give the narration a shout-out. This is DUET narration (always a win for me), and while Shane East and Evelyn Rose aren’t usually among my automatic favorites, they were fantastic together here. Shane East especially fit this particular character perfectly, and the performance elevated the entire experience.

This is definitely a spice-forward romance (🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️), so expect explicit scenes alongside the dark rom-com vibes—including murder and other typical mafia elements. The story doesn’t pretend to be realistic, but it stays believable within its own world, which is exactly what I want from this genre. ⭐️4.5 stars, rounded up to 5. I’ll absolutely be re-listening.

Who should read/listen?
If you love short audiobooks, mafia romances, obsessive heroes who fall hard, filthy dirty talk, and fast-paced stories with fantastic duet narration, this one is an easy recommendation.

So hot 🔥
This was a short but deliciously hot, steamy story featuring mafia boss Blake and his interactions with pure and innocent Nina.
Not knowing who she really was or how to locate her Blake was determined to find the sweet little bunny that had infiltrated his messaging service.
The more they messaged each other the more invested they became, excited at receiving any new correspondence no matter how naughty and risqué it became.
Such a great story with smart, witty characters.
The banter between the two was perfect and I loved their chemistry, but Nina’s desire to stay hidden did not sit well with Blake as he needed to claim her.
I listened to the audiobook which was narrated in duet by Shane East and Evelyn Rose, boy was their performances amazing.
They were absolutely perfect for the role.
I loved the story, characters and narration.
Thank you Evie Rose, NetGalley and Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op for the opportunity to listen to this audiobook.

This was such a fun surprise! This was a quick, fast-paced read that had me smiling and laughing from beginning to end. The premise of accidentally ending up in a mafia group chat and pretending to be a hitwoman named "Bunny the Killer" was absolutely hilarious, and the text banter between Nina and Blake was easily my favorite part of the book.

Nina was adorable, witty, and impossible not to love, while Blake brought all the possessive mafia boss energy in the most entertaining way. Their chemistry was instant, steamy, and full of playful moments that kept me turning the pages.

It's perfect for a light, funny, and flirty mafia romance that doesn't take itself too seriously, this is definitely worth picking up. It's the perfect one-sitting read for anyone who enjoys humorous banter, quick romances, and plenty of spice. I had a great time with this one and couldn't stop grinning while reading!

I thoroughly enjoyed the audiobook of this hilarious and spicy mafia romance with its added age gap and hidden identity tropes. The duet narration by Shane East (I’m a huge fan of him and his swoonworthy accent) and Evelyn Rose perfectly captured the characters, the humor, and the chemistry between Nina and Blake. She’s a shy, innocent, curvy heroine who secretly longs for a little excitement in her life, and Blake is a possessive, intriguing, morally gray hero with an unexpected sense of humor. I especially loved their playful chat conversations and spicy phone calls.

When her brother Aaron starts a mysterious new job, he accidentally invites Nina Brooks to a mafia group chat. Normally, the shy young woman leads a dull life, but just for fun, she pretends to be “Bunny the Killer,” an assassin, and soon Nina has to communicate with Blake Thorne, the attractive Norwood mafia boss, who wants to hire her for a hit…

All in all, a very entertaining, cosy quick read (audiobook) with lovable characters, witty banter, LOL moments, heat, and great narrators, that I'm happy to recommend!

I listened to the audiobook version of this short story and I devoured it!!! This is an insta-love kind of story so if you are not into that, this might not be for you, but it was definitely for me. Blake and Nina's chemistry is off the chart. There was so much humor, banter, and flirting packed into this short read that I could not get enough. I loved the text messages between these two characters and I adored Blake. He was the perfect mafia boss with the perfect mixture of possessive, respectful, sweet, and scary all in one. The narration by Shane East and Evelyn Rose was exquisite, their voices, their inflections, their chemistry, everything worked for me. An easy 5 star read!

This was a fast-paced cute novella. Nina’s brother accidentally added her to a group chat meant for the hitmen that work for his boss. Instead of exiting the group, Nina decides to pretend to be a hitwoman with the handle Bunny the Killer. Well, Nina caught the attention of the boss and Blake quickly becomes enamored with her and makes it his mission to find out her true identity. The banter between the two is hilarious and the spice is spicing in this book. The narrators were perfect and brought Nina and Blake’s quirky relationship to life. A fun read I enjoyed.

*ALC REVIEW*

I love a Pen Pal trope and the way this one was executed (pun intended) was excellent! I would have sat for several more hours just to be with these characters. However, I will say that the length was perfect for what needed to be accomplished. The banter was on point and the spice was hot. Not to mention, both narrators were chosen perfectly for their roles. I'm looking forward to discovering more from Evie Rose.

So I definitely enjoyed this novella! As only my second mafia romance, both by this author, I am definitely a fan. It’s short, sweet, spicy, and a little crazy.

Nina accidentally gets added to a group chat by her brother when she joins a messaging app as “Bunny the Killer.” She soon realizes he’s working for the mafia. When the leader asks her to assassinate someone, she’s worried about her brother getting in trouble, so she plays along. This leads to many conversations between Nina and Blake, the kingpin, as he tries to get to the bottom of who “Bunny” is.

Ok, the banter between Blake and Nina has me laughing out loud. It was so cute and witty. And I adored that Blake adopts “A Kitten Has No Name” just to impress her. And since I’d only listened to one other of this author’s novellas, I was happy to catch the mention of the other syndicate!

Audiobook: I loved the audiobook! The narrators did an excellent job conveying the characters’ every emotion. The voices were perfect!

Expect:
Mistaken Identity
Age Gap
Grumpy x Sunshine
Spicy video calls

I adored this fun mafia novella, and have already listened to the very fun bonus epilogue on the author’s website. I look forward to more!

If you're looking for a quick, spicy and genuinely funny mafia romance, this novella is a lot of fun.

The premise immediately hooked me: an innocent mistake lands the heroine in a mafia group chat, and before she knows it, the mafia boss has become completely obsessed with discovering who "Bunny the Killer" really is.

The story fully embraces its over-the-top premise and never pretends to be anything else. It's packed with witty banter, an age-gap romance, possessive mafia hero vibes, plenty of spice, kidnapping and enough humor to keep the story entertaining from beginning to end.

The audiobook was also wonderfully narrated. Shane East and Evelyn Rose brought the characters to life, and their performances added an extra layer of enjoyment to an already fun story.

At just around three hours, it's a perfect listen if you're in the mood for something lighthearted, spicy, and entertaining.

Did I listen to Messages from the Mafia Boss while walking on my treadmill and almost feel the depravity of it? Yes, do I have any regrets? None whatsoever.
This book was so good! Cute and sexy, with fun and well-written characters. A story easy to follow for a novella, with still a good dose of intrigue and grip. A nice, easy read for a Saturday morning.
Oh! And the narrators?! They were just so good, like proper acting on top of that. I was so immersed. Honestly, everything was good.
Evie Rose is now on my radar, and I will definitely read more of her works.

This was such a fun time! First of all, the audiobook is superb. The duet narration absolutely made this story come alive, and both narrators were perfect for Blake and Nina.

I really loved that this was a fun, cheeky mafia romance instead of a super dark one. In fact, it was mostly humor, banter, and plenty of spice. I was smiling through so much of it.

My only complaint is that I wanted more! That’s always my struggle with novellas. Just when I’m completely invested, it’s over. Blake and Nina had such great chemistry, and I easily could have read another couple hundred pages about them. If you’re looking for a quick, spicy, entertaining mafia romance with fantastic audio narration, this one is definitely worth picking up!

This one is such a good time! Think mafia romance with a lighter, funnier twist. But don't worry, the obsessive, possessive mafia man is still very much front and center.

We have laugh out loud banter, a little light mafia, a 20 year age gap, spicy spicy spice with a touch of breeding kink.

And the audio- HOLY EVERYTHING. Shane East growling- I die. Shane and Evelyn brought so much depth to these characters.

Thank you Evie Rose and Netgalley for the ALC!
Messages from the Mafia Boss surprised me! I went in expecting a quick, spicy mafia romance and I ended up having so much fun with it. It is over the top, chaotic, flirty and never takes itself too seriously, which is exactly why it worked so well for me.
The text message format kept the story moving at a fast pace and the banter between Blake and Nina had me smiling the whole time. Their chemistry was undeniable and I loved Blake's possessive yet devoted personality. The age gap romance and the "he falls first" energy made this such an entertaining listen.
The audiobook was definitely the highlight for me. Shane East is one of the narrators, and I swear every single book I hear him narrate, I always melt! His voice was absolutely perfect for Blake and together with Evelyn Rose, they brought so much personality and chemistry to these characters. Their performances elevated the entire experience.
This is packed with spice, humor, mafia chaos and plenty of laugh out loud moments. It is not trying to be a gritty or realistic mafia romance, and that is part of its charm. It embraces the fun, the ridiculous and the romance, making it such an enjoyable escape.

This audiobook follows are FMC who pretends that she is a killer assasin, but in reality she is just a normal accountant. This starts when she accidently gets added to the secret mafia group chat created by her brother. Hence for fun and thrills she decides you know what i am going to pretend to be a deadly assasin, and thus out mafia head founds out that some intruder is added to this secret group chat so he messages her as a client and soon realises that she is bluffing and falls in love with her.

My Review: I really enjoyed the audiobook as it was a duet so you got to listen to the male and female voice when they were speaking. I lovedd the male narrators voice, it was so rough and sexy and hard. The novella was also sweet cute and spicyyy!! Loved the Writing.

Another short, fun, and spicy audiobook from Evie Rose! I listened to it in an evening. Evie Rose writes great spice, fun (and funny) banter, and just funny (if improbable) situations. I think I was smiling the whole book. Love that the audiobook was done duet style, as it totally elevates the storytelling, and Shane East is just an amazing narrator. This is my 2nd Evie Rose book, but I didn't realize it until I started finding some similarities in the story, and then a mention of "Math Club" had me doing a double take! Evie Rose does like her mafia bosses and their young, innocent, virgin love interests. That being said, the storyline is completely different, so it didn't feel like a re-read or anything. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to more of these great audiobooks!

I absolutely blew through this audiobook. I thoroughly enjoyed the narrators and their accents, I think it really added to my immersion into the story. Nina/ Bunny and Blake were so fun together. The banter between them was spot on and I am here for it. Blake's insta-love and complete German Shepard energy was endearing without being suffocating in my opinion. The age gap is on the larger side for a non-romantasy book, but it wasn't done in a way that gave me an ick feeling. The 7yrs later epilogue gave a great update and conclusion to their story. I signed up for the newsletter and I'm currently waiting on the bonus spicy epilogue, because the spice in the rest of the book was so well done, I can't help but want to know what wasn't added.

Messages From the Mafia Boss is a cute novella with fast-paced, laugh-out-loud banter and Shane East. What could be more fun? Totally worth the listen.

Thank you to Victory Editing NetGalley Co‑op and NetGalley for the opportunity to listen to this Audiobook ARC.

Shane East and Evelyn Rose deliver an immaculate and ADDICTIVE performance. The way they fully commit to their characters and what is being said - growling words etc - was top tier. The audiobook as a whole was clear and easy to follow with the clear strength being the dual narration and the narrators who were chosen. They elevated the entire experience. Their narration brought the tension and SMUT to life in a way that made this incredibly easy to devour. I ATE 👏🏼 IT 👏🏼 UP!!

The story itself is quick, punchy, HILARIOUS, and engaging. The shorter length worked in its favor in regards to keeping the pace tight and engaging. My only… abrupt stop came near the end with the surprise introduction of two tropes I wasn’t prepared for… With a more gradual buildup and a longer book, those might have felt less jarring, but the sudden reveal made them stand out in a way that fully pulled me out of the story. Maybe the addition of trigger warnings at the front of the book/audio would help.

If you love mafia romance, possessive dynamics, and exceptional narration, this audiobook is absolutely worth your time. Just be aware that a couple of late‑book tropes arrive suddenly, including pregnancy‑related content, which may or may not align with your preferences.

Everyone knows I’m a sucker for a quick, sweet read… and this little book came in HOT. 🥵🔥

The spice was SPICING, the chemistry was chemistry-ing, and I devoured the whole thing in just two hours while doing the housework and walking the dog.

Honestly… if the people I passed knew what was playing through my headphones, they would’ve looked at me very differently. 😂🤭

Short, spicy, flirty, and ridiculously entertaining. Exactly what I needed, and absolutely worth the two hour commitment!

Thank you to netgalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

HE BUYS HER SPECIAL EDITIONS OF SHIFTER ROMANCE BOOKS BECAUSE THEY ARE HER FAVORITES ... AND BUYS AN EXTRA COPY FOR HIMSELF SO HE CAN READ THEM AND LEARN ABOUT IT.

That alone deserves the 5 star rating. But then you add on my favorite tropes - online message / hidden identities, Mafia, stalking, breeding... Evie Rose has quickly become one of my favorite authors. This is only the second book of theirs I have read but it is my favorite ever.

Also! The growly bits that Shane East does 😲 this audiobook was not put down once! I listened to it in one sitting. I couldn't stop.

[Received ARC from NetGalley - review is my own opinions and thoughts 😊]

That hook is wild: “I shouldn't have pretended to be a hitman, and now the mafia boss is obsessed.”

If you love fast-paced romance with chaotic energy and a heavy dose of the "touch her and die" trope, this is such a fun, addictive listen.

I listened to the audiobook and it was an absolute blast. The text-based dynamic between them translates so well to audio—it’s funny, immediate, and the chemistry hits right from the first message. The accidental identity mix-up is hilarious, and once they finally cross paths in person? Whew. The obsession is completely off the charts.

The voice actors did an amazing job bringing out all that intense, possessive alpha energy. It’s a short, high-heat, and incredibly entertaining ride that you can easily fly through in a single afternoon. Highly recommend!

I received a review copy of this audiobook via NetGalley and am leaving this review voluntarily.

Perfect pallet cleanser! I went in totally blind and did not expect to enjoy this so much. I questioned how there could even be a full story accomplished in such a short amount of time. While I can’t say much of a plot actually did exist, I can say what it lacked in plot it took up for in vibes! If you’re looking for a quick, fun, giggly, spicy good time then you’ve found it.

First off, the audio was sublime! The way the narrators, Evelyn Rose and Shane East, played off each other had me kicking my feet the whole way through. Both narrators voices are divine and they really conveyed the individual character’s emotions perfectly.

Our main characters are our FMC, Nina, early 20’s, office worker by day, who becomes an accidental assassin (kinda). Our MMC is a somewhat bored Mafia Boss in his 40’s, who is trying to figure out who this new ‘assassin’ is in his mob’s new text group. Let the games begin.

The banter and just all out humor of this book had me literally laughing out loud more times than I can count! I don’t usually do mafia romance because I’m not so great with the violence and gore but this was a tasty sweet treat in the mafia world.

Was the whole thing completely unrealistic? Potentially, but I’m pretty sure I’ve heard of crazier things happening! Fast as the story and MC’s ‘relationship’ progresses, you do get an adorable HEA ending plus there’s a bonus spicy audio chapter if you want to join the author’s newsletter.

Highlights:
- 🌶️ Hottest Video Chat scene!
- 🐈‍⬛ “Kitten with No Name”

*Not sure if there’s a list of trigger warnings anywhere, but there are a few *kinks* in here that some people may want to be aware of.

Miss Evie Rose, consider me a fan. Your books are funny, and sweet and interesting and so so hot. Whether they're long or short, it's all so good! I can't wait for the next one!

This one was a perfect mafia romance. The messaging is one of my favorites and this was perfectly done. The narrators are excellent! Evie narrating is just wonderful and sweet and the MMC wow hot and masculine, those growls!

Nina finds herself in a Mafia group chat and disguises herself as BunnyTheKiller. She goes back and forth with the boss, Blake, and realizes she has probably bit off more than she can chew.

This was such a quick and easy read! It's an even better listen 👂. The narrators did a fantastic job bringing Nina and Blake to life with their English accents. I loved the back and forth text messages and how he kept sending her "gifts" to pick up 😂😂 That one scene... IYKYK. I appreciated the epilogue and believe me, you're gonna want to sign up for the free bonus scenes.
