Description
MURDER COMES TO LONDON'S MOST LUXURIOUS HIGH-RISE: AND EVERY RESIDENT IS A SUSPECT.
The Heights: a gleaming, high-end high-rise looming over Hyde Park. Newly built from steel and smoked glass, a billionaire's playground offering sumptuous suites for the global elite.
But when a night concierge is found murdered in the lobby, the building's rarefied atmosphere is shattered, and the gilded lives within come under intense police scrutiny.
In a world designed to keep prying eyes out, where the residents are not used to being held to account, born-and-bred Londoner Detective Gillian Gish must find a way past their power, wealth and unimaginable influence.
The rules may be different at the top - but is anyone truly above the law? Or could it be that the higher you rise, the further you fall...?

Another great book by the imitable Ian Rankin.
London's monied rich and famous, meets gangland underworld. All of this in a grand high rise overlooking Hyde Park , who's mysterious occupants offer an exciting challenge to D.S. Gillian Gish when a murder is discovered.
With the paparazzi always camped out waiting for a photo opportunity ,solving the murder puzzle is going to be difficult, If not awkward .
With twists and turns of Ian Rankin's legendary pace the reader is treated to the irony and wit that we have become accustomed to .
Really have enjoyed reading this book and certainly I did not miss the usual Rebus fare .

I think this is the first book I have read by Mr. Rankin. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Never be envious of those who have, it is a facade in some cases. Secret affairs, dodgy dealing, murders, dogged persistence. All in this one book.
I loved it and I loved the style of writing.
I am surprised it's not five stars for all reviews!

Wow! What can I say? This is Ian Rankin. When I read his name, I know the book is going to be GOOD.
The Height surpassed all expectations, this is a solid 5-star read!
Really hoping for a DS Gillian Gish series!

Well. What can I say!? It’s Sir. Ian Rankin, of course it is going to be twisty, gripping and compulsive!!
With the Heights we meet a whole new team of officers, the main being; DS Gillian Gish.
Called to a murder at a ludicrously expensive high rise we meet a host of intriguing characters, all of them well known in some way, be it for crime, corruption or social media stardom. The story grabs a hold very quickly - and keeps you in a perpetual state of confusion; with each new chapter I had decided on a different killer and I was proven wrong until the very last page.
The ending was absolutely not what I was expecting - and I was hugely disappointed, not by the resolution or the story itself - they were brilliantly executed, I just didn’t want it to be true!!
I really enjoyed this book, it has reminded me why Ian Rankin is a master storyteller. Hoping we get to meet Gish again in the future.
Thoroughly recommend.

The Heights: an extremely exclusive luxury apartment...no, suites...building overlooking Hyde Park. Only the very wealthy, famous, and secretive need apply.
But it's not all that it seems beneath that oh-so-glossy veneer...
The night concierge lies dead in the lobby.
And since all the inmates (for it certainly feels like a gilded prison) are used to getting their own way and keeping secrets, this is not going to be the easiest of investigations for Gillian Gish.
And there are a LOT of secrets...
Absolutely brilliant

Ian Rankin proves once again why he’s a titan of crime fiction. Steering away from his classic Rebus territory, The Heights drops readers into the glittering, paranoid world of London’s ultra-wealthy. Rankin delivers a sharp social critique wrapped in a classic whodunit framework. It’s tense, layered, and packed with twists that feel entirely earned. If you love high-stakes thrillers with meticulous police work and razor-thin motives, pick this one up immediately.
