Description

Kat Schneider, a New Yorker and medieval literature scholar, arrives in Prague to translate a centuries-old manuscript. The first night, she sees the ghosts of a knight and a lion patrolling the ancient tower outside her window.

In Prague, her hidden gift of Sight pulls her into a world where history is alive, and the past collides with the present. On the Charles Bridge, Kat inadvertently summons a fourteenth-century prince into the modern world, forcing her to navigate a realm where the supernatural and human desires intertwine. With a mysterious local man and her charismatic client, she uncovers hidden truths, explores new powers, and discovers that love and loyalty are never straightforward.

Yet danger looms: a vengeful outsider plots to devastate the city on St. Wenceslas Day. To protect her friends, the city of Prague and even the Czech nation, Kat must embrace the Sight she has long hidden—and confront betrayal, ancient magic, and the haunting shadows of history.

A Note From the Publisher

Marion Deland is a lifelong traveler. Born in Adelaide, Australia, she spent 6 months traveling in Europe at age 13, took a working holiday in New Zealand at 19, and moved to New York City at 22. Various trips to Europe culminated in a visit to Prague in 2004, 15 years after the Velvet Revolution freed the nation from Russian rule. Annual visits became month-long stays, exploring the beauty and history of the country, along with the challenges of the language. And after careers in corporate communication and technology training, Marion began a third career writing fiction about her favorite subjects - Prague and the paranormal.

"Deland’s contemporary fantasy novel is full of rich history, stunningly scenic locales [...] By the end, many of those readers will want to take a trip to Prague themselves. A solid read with a fast-paced plot, a legend of mythic proportions, and a gorgeous setting." - Kirkus Reviews

"I recommend The Skull of Wenceslas to readers who enjoy paranormal mysteries that lean into history, atmosphere, and character more than nonstop action. It should especially appeal to anyone drawn to haunted cities, old manuscripts, folklore, and stories where the past keeps reaching into the present.
