"The world is full of wildness and wonder, magic and music: you have to make space for it, and for everyone, and for everything they bring..."
This is the kind of all age book that you'd expect from Ella Risbridger. A poignant Chrsitmas tale about a brave little mouse, interspersed with craft and cooking ideas. It is perfect. The illustrations are gorgeous and it would make a wonderful gift.
The Great Mouse Orchestra is a truly visual and wonderful tale for children under 7. This is the story of Jeremy Larkin; a young mouse who dreams of hearing the infamous Great Mouse Orchestra- does it even exist ? So one night during the festive period he sets out to find the orchestra but his journey doesn't go as smoothly as planned.
Along the way he encounters an array of different characters; a friendly fox who helps transport him; on his journey a machine building- junk collecting - inventing squirrel ; a love-sick Pekinese dog; a whippet who is a cook; a band of bats who play their own instruments amongst others...
Throughout there are things to do - bakes to make, decorations to create, musical instruments to build and more - colourful and clear instructions for young and old .
Ella Risbridger's prose is wonderful for storytelling and reading along and Alice Courtley's illustrations are full of humour and life. A perfect double act. The book enchants from start to finish with some good messages about friendship, support and believing in what you feel woven through.
This would be a great bedtime read, an excellent gift or a good EYFS/Lower KS1 class read.
Highly recommended. A wintery festive treat and certainly enticing enough to pull young eyes away from screens

The Great Mouse Orchestra is all about believing in magic and following your dreams, as young Jeremy - a mouse who is passionately determined to locate and listen to the music created by the annual performance of the aforementioned orchestra (which not everyone believes in) - finds himself discovering.
This is a charming piece of storytelling, peopled by a range of interesting characters and accompanied by beautiful illustrations. Highly recommended.
