Description
Going head-to-head with your best friend is never easy, on or off the court. Told in a dual point of view, best friends Josie and Cami have to navigate friendship, rivalry, and first love in this fun female athlete 2000’s nostalgic YA from USA Today bestselling author Janette Rallison.
Josie likes gorgeous basketball team captain Ethan Lancaster, but she can never do or say the right thing in front of him. If that wasn’t bad enough, it seems like Ethan is only interested in her best friend Cami, when Cami isn’t even trying to get his attention. Or is she?
Cami dreams of winning her basketball team’s coveted MVP award, but as hard as she tries, she can’t seem to improve her game. Worse, Josie looks like a shoo-in for the honor even though she's barely interested in basketball. Or is she?
Going head-to-head with your best friend is never easy, on or off the court. This wholesome YA is perfect for fans of Kasie West and Alexandra Moody.

Fun, heartfelt, and delightfully nostalgic, *Life, Love, and the Pursuit of Free Throws* blends basketball, friendship, and romance into a charming coming-of-age story about growing up and finding your shot.

The dual point of view of two basketball besties, Cami and Josie, who have a falling out for liking the same guy, Ethan, causes their friendship to fall in shambles. This causes issues with their families as well as their basketball team. The team cannot win games since they girls are not passing to each other. With their time apart, Cami and Josie can focus on their upcoming science fair projects with their assigned partners. They get to have some funny interactions with their science partners, which might have not happened if Cami and Josie were still super close friends.
It was sad to see how they couldn’t talk to each other sooner to try to fix their friendship. Unfortunately, they are left stranded at a gas station on their way to a basketball game by a teammate’s parent. They are forced to talk about what happened and try to work things out. This book shares an important message of friendship and being able to work things out. I like that Janette Rallison focuses on important messages for tweens/teens that they can follow in their lives.
I would give the overall book 4 stars.
