Cat's Halloween

Given that I adore cats and I adore Halloween, I really couldn't resist grabbing this cute read to add to my spooky summerween tbr.
Cat is just the cutest and I totally understand his fears of the spooky season - especially the loud "trick or treaters" - just like my own cats.
I love that this teaches that pets maybe don't love all of the same celebrations that we love and that his little witch went to rescue him from being outside.
However, although cat looked super cute in his pumpkin outfit, he didn't look too pleased about wearing it!
This was a great quick read and I can imagine reading this to my children when they were little - I loved reading seasonal books and this would make the perfect book for story time or even bedtime.
The illustrations were nice and bold and bright with lots to look at for those younger children as they're being read to.
I loved the changes in cat's face as he encountered the different things through the story.
This is definitely a book that I'd have on our shelves at home and would expect it to be requested every night too.
I wonder whether we'll see cat appear in any other stories soon?
๐Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for my ARC copy - this is my honest review ๐

I read this with my 4 year old daughter who helps me to review picture books aimed at the EYFS age. We are huge fans of Halloween in our house, and it is my daughter's favourite time of the year so she was very excited by the front cover and loved the grumpy cat.
The story was nicely told with some lovely adjectives to help to create the scene at the beginning. I always like to discuss these with my daughter and she said that she thought it felt warm and cosy at the beginning. We found the story to be quite amusing when Cat thinks that a scary witch is coming only to find it is his favourite person. My daughter also loved the ending where Cat dreams about riding on a broomstick.
The artwork was beautiful and we loved looking at the pictures of the owl, the broomstick, and grumpy cat. The colour palette worked well for a book about Halloween and really put us in an autumnal mood.
My daughter loved it and wanted to re-read it several times before playing 'Grumpy Halloween Cat.' Would definitely recommend to people that have preschool age children or younger.
Cat's Halloween is an absolutely delightful children's picture book and a perfect read for getting little ones into the Halloween spirit.
Cat is most definitely NOT a fan of Halloween. From creepy cobwebs and spooky pumpkin faces to the endless stream of trick-or-treaters knocking at the door, Cat would much rather have nothing to do with it. But as the night unfolds and a little Halloween magic begins to stir, Cat discovers that perhaps the spooky season isn't quite as terrible as he thought.
I absolutely loved this book. Cat's grumpy personality is brilliant and brings so much humour to the story. I can imagine children finding his reactions hilarious, especially as he encounters all the things about Halloween that he would rather avoid.
Beneath all the Halloween fun, there's also a really lovely, heartwarming message about sharing experiences with the people you care about. It's sweet without losing the humour that makes Cat such an entertaining character.
This would make a fantastic Halloween read for younger children, whether at home, nursery or school. It's fun, charming, beautifully seasonal and definitely one I'd happily read again and again.
A wonderful follow-up to Cat's Christmas and an easy 5/5 from me.
