A story as gorgeous as the front cover. I've been waiting for a magical animal story for a long while and this didn't disappoint. With an engaging voice right from the off, readers are drawn into a story with a fantastic cast of animals (I loved that it wasn't just dogs) and magic galore. I loved the illustrations as much as the story and they really brought the characters to life.
This is a joyful read for anyone who loves animals and magic and I highly recommend.

This was a fun story about Chip, a young dog who attends a magic school for dogs at night (this explains why dogs sleep so much during the day!!!).
In this first in a series (I assume) we get to tag along with Chip and meet his friends and some of his teachers at his school, we also learn that you must never, EVER, let a cat follow you do dog magic school because cats + magic would be disastrous.
The illustrations are bright and fun, fitting in perfectly with the story. The plot works well and I can see this being a hit with kids who want a fun story with hijinks and magic.

I did have this pre-ordered but money issues meant I had to cancel it so I was thrilled to be sent a copy.

Even though I am more than five times the reading age (that makes me sound very old), I was really looking forward to it. The cover was beautiful, the synopsis sounded great - I was excited. And after a run of quite serious books, I needed a bit of fun.

I believe Pippa illustrates them too, and you can see that link between them and the story. They're charming and whimsical and so characterful and younger readers will love them.

There is going to be a sequel and I wonder how long a series it could be. But I'll definitely be reading them.

It's quick to read - I think even young children won't struggle to zoom through it.

More adults should read books like this. Yes it's aimed at young children, and I get that, it's limited text and lots of illustrations and it's very childish - which is unsurprising. And so you may not feel it's suitable or gripping enough for adults. And sure it doesn't have much meat to it, but I don't care. I read a lot of thrillers and period pieces, things you really need to concentrate on, and sometimes life just calls for a magical dog and it gave me everything I wanted it and it was thoroughly enjoyable.

This is an absolutely delightful story about the secret lives of dogs. Chip and his friends are loyal pets by day, but attend the most quirky and whimsical magic school at night. Until their school is a risk because of that dastardly, scheming species, CATS...

The storyline was entertaining, the characters well drawn, and the humour quite charming. All in all, this is an excellent offering for young readers - and animal lovers of *all* ages! It gets 4.5 stars.
