imagine being so young and becoming a widow. well that is where our mfc finds herself. but Anna doesn't believe all she is being told. and then she finds something which leads her on a mission to find out just what is going on here. did she ever know her husband? and how could he die in the way people keep telling her. there is no body, and the man she knew wouldn't come to danger on the waters he knew so well. would he?
Blackwater Bay is our location. and boy does it feel like one of those places with secrets of its own. Bradley writes atmosphere incredibly well. somehow i felt like i was reading and feeling more unease without even knowing how it was happening.
nothing good can ever come from a hidden story unit. that is something ive learnt from my far to many years of watching and reading crime thrillers! and this one didn't disappoint on that front.
Anna as a character feel easy to root for. but even then you are never quite sure of just what she is doing this for either. i swear i would've been suspicious of a cat if there had been one. that is just how good Bradley was at laying suspicion on the ground like seed pellets!
i know that when i dared try to put this book down i could not. i needed to know all the answers myself. the more i read the more i needed to know. and then i just happily resigned myself to taken my seat and finishing. and boy was that a finish. and there is definitely more to come from this author. this was a stunning debut and i cant believe i now have to wait a whisper of time before i am able to get stuck into the next one he writes. i cant actually believe this is his first. from what i think i remember reading of his background job this definitely learnt him being able to write humans ever so well. and obviously knowing the depths they might be taken to or behave like.
brilliant. im still buzzing from it even writing about it again now.
