Foreword by Dame Joanna Lumley
“If I had the opportunity to bring my legs back today, I would actually decline. It was only after losing them that I found my true self”
“We should no longer be seen as being poor, miserable and living off benefits. We can be successful and live a happy and meaningful life. But changing that perception will be a bigger battle than climbing Everest.”
Determined to change perceptions of what is possible for people with disability, Hari victoriously stood atop Everest, the world’s highest peak at 8,849m, on May 19th, 2023.
But Hari wasn’t stopping there. Having already climbed Mt. Blanc and Mt. Kilimanjaro in preparation, Mt. Everest was the third of the world’s Seven Summits – the highest peaks on each continent – to be conquered.
He went on to take his message of determination and resilience around the world where he once again broke new boundaries in mountaineering as the first double amputee to complete the seven summits - a recognised feat only 500 people in history have ever achieved.
Hari set out to show people what the human spirit can achieve, push limits and inspire others “to climb their own mountains whatever that might be”.

Through adversities humans rise. That’s exactly what Hari Budha Magar does. In his book he takes us along through moments of his life, the moment his life changed forever, and all the adversities that came along.
It’s inspiring, it gives hope and strength, and shows that odds can be defied and even pushed further. Society still looks at people with disabilities as non equals, but we can do so much more when we push through. And that’s exactly what Hari shows here, as well as raising awareness.
This book had me hooked from the start, I just didn’t want to put it down, and now that I finished it, I want to take life head on again too.
A thank you to Netgalley and Mirror books for sending me the ARC of this amazing story.
