Description
Voice Notes from the Abyss is a darkly comic, deeply ironic, and often very funny, poetry collection of short poems. It offers a sharp-witted analysis, critique and celebration of the present digital age we all find ourselves in – but especially, Millennial and Gen Z people, looking for love, fame and meaning, in what can seem an abyss of narcissism, self-display and excess. Hirani uses a traditional poetic formalism in new experimental ways to approach the current zeitgeist, to try and locate hope and a silver lining in the absurd darkness of this chaotic tech-bro-led moment. Sometimes weird, sometimes laugh out loud funny, it captures where we are now.

So many of the poems in this book will stay with me , so thankful for the early read and cannot wait to spend more time with these poems

This is a short collection of poetry (only about 150 pages). And these poems aren't super long (even the longest ones are less than two pages). So it's very fast and easy to get through.
These poems were easy to understand but still made you think. And I like when poetry doesn't take itself too seriously.
I also really liked that they rhymed. I just think there's something so fun about a rhyming poem. I feel like you see those less and less as you get older.
Thanks to NetGalley for the e-ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review!

Voice Notes from the Abyss is a distinctive contemporary poetry collection exploring loneliness, identity and life in the digital age. Hirani’s conversational voice, rhyme and modern references give the poems an immediate, relatable quality, with several pieces genuinely lingering after the page is turned. While some poems feel less developed than others, the collection’s strongest moments are thoughtful, memorable and emotionally resonant. A promising collection with a clear voice.
