Description
Urban fantasy and paranormal women's fiction for grown-up readers: secret organizations, monsters slipping through reality, found family, and a slow burn that stays slow.
Adventure Does Not Have an Age Limit
For nineteen years, Stephanie Cross has graded eighth-grade lab reports, raised her twins, and protected the small, careful life she rebuilt after her husband’s death. At forty-three, ordinary is the only thing she trusts.
Then reality tears open during her morning commute—a seam of silver light with something hungry pushing through. Stephanie seals it with her bare hands, moving on instincts that belong to someone she used to be.
By nightfall, she’s restrained in a concrete room four stories beneath Boston. A stranger has a file bearing her name, records of missions she doesn’t remember, and proof that she was once part of an organization she has never heard of.
When the organization that declared her dead wants her back, Stephanie can no longer pretend she is the woman she remembers.
For readers who love the high-stakes magic of Ilona Andrews and the formidable midlife heroines of K.F. Breene. It's midlife magic on the action end of the shelf—closer to covert ops than a cozy coven.
Inside Fracture:
- A heroine over forty with real-life experience
- Found family in a secret facility beneath Boston
- A hidden supernatural organization with records of her missing past
- Magic with hardware: resonance blades, sigil-threaded alloy, and arrays that read the city like a seismograph
- Monsters slipping through the seams of reality
- A conspiracy buried inside the life she can’t remember
- A slow burn that stays slow
- Low heat and high stakes
Fracture is Book One of the Lattice series: urban fantasy where the most dangerous thing in any room is a mother who knows she’s been lied to.

Advance Praise
Steph was the reason this worked so well for me. She is forty-three, has grown children, bills, a demanding job and an entire life that doesn’t disappear just because she discovers a hidden supernatural world.
I also loved the friendship at the center of the story. It is complicated, painful and impossible to divide neatly into right and wrong. The supporting characters are fun too, especially Joss, and the slow burn with Cal never takes over the story.
The ending completely changed where I thought the series was going.
I’m in for book two.
Recommended if you like urban fantasy with a heroine who has lived a life.
