Description
Fred and Samzen have one thing in common: They hate demons.
Fred, a human and expert in cults and extremist societies, is desperate for help preventing a demon-possessed cult leader from sacrificing its annual victim, the “Chosen.” Samzen, incubus and agent with the FBI’s paranormal unit, could be the perfect answer to protect the Chosen women rescued from the cult.
If they can’t stop the demon from performing the sacrifice, the victim will lose their humanity. If Samzen can’t convince the Chosen that he isn’t a demon, he might have to defend himself from the very people he’s trying to protect.
But the most dangerous threat to Samzen might not be the demon, or the murderous vampires hunting him, or Fred’s ability to drive him crazy. It might be the confusingly cheerful woman eager to see Samzen use his illegal powers.
Spinning off from "A Paranormal Therapist's Guide to Divorce," re-enter the world of the Mortal Treaty with an urban fantasy adventure of fast paced action, humor, and life-and-death stakes.
ARC Note: This is Book One of an urban fantasy adventure trilogy.

In a world we’re humans, vampires, werewolves and celestials live side by side trouble is inevitable.
Fred is an expert on cults and in desperate need of help. He is trying to stop a demon infested cult leader before the yearly sacrifice. Samzen, an incubus and FBI Agent becomes his unexpected ally.
I instantly liked Samzen. He is a sex demon that likes humans but has to deal with so much prejudice. I mean he used to be a baby sitter before he became an FBI agent. He is trying so hard to do the right thing but is often met with mistrust. Understandable that his go to response is sarcasm and annoyance.
For a sex demon, there was surprisingly little romance. A sprinkle here and there but sadly not much.
Fred might only be a human but he is far from boring. He has a PHD and is obviously smart but he also knows how to defend himself. I was surprised by his bravery and skill in fighting vampires. He grew up in the human supremacy cult and is working so hard to overcome his prejudices.
He cares deeply for his cult “sisters” he is trying to save.
Samzen and Fred make such a great team. I loved seeing them work together. They are much more alike than one might think on first glance. Both have a big heart and both hate demons.
My favourite part of the book was Samzen babysitting Fred’s six sisters. Because of their cult upbringing they are convinced he is their enemy and not to be trusted. Marigold, or Goldy how Samzen calls her, quickly became my favourite character. She is different than the other sisters, bubbly and joyful. But there is so much more to her… I’m hoping that we get to see more of her in future books.
Overall this was a pretty enjoyable read.
I recommend this to anyone that likes urban or paranormal fantasy that’s filled with action.

I admit, I went into this expecting a MM PNR based on the cover. This isn't a romance, it is a solid UF story.
We spend most of the time in Samzen's POV and he is snarky, irreverant and really trying to survive while navigating the very strange situation he has found himself in.
We spend less time with Fred, but his perspective is distinct from Samzen. They also spend much of the book doing different things and not in each other's company.
Now, this isn't a non-stop action book, but I think it is all the better for that. We get to know Samzen quite well and I think this balances the world building aspects while keeping the plot moving forward so it doesn't suffer from a lot of book 1 atosis in world info dumps.
If you are looking for a UF adventure that goes in unexpected ways - I highly recommend this one. I know I will be checking out Sylvia's other novel and the novella set in this world.
I give this a solid 4.5 stars and look forward to more of Samzen's stories.
Red skin, horns, and a snarky sarcastic attitude? Could be Hellboy's more attractive incubus cousin - without the big hand, and shorter! Genuine fun with plenty of subtle and not-so-subtle humor woven through. Complex story with an interesting cast - this is the beginning of something good ...
