Tarot cards, dragon protectors, and secret societies? This book had me from the jump. As a former Torontonian I can’t tell you how much reading about our cast of characters in my favorite city meant! Take me to the Annex with Esme and Michael for a coffee and lesson on magic PLEASE! This book was rich with life and you could feel the magic coming off of every page. The second half of the book consumed me and I could not put it down. I wish we had more time to luxuriate in the relationships, I really wanted more time to sip coffee with our main characters and get to know them more deeply. The magic system was intriguing and I really hope we get more history and time to jump into the history books in the next one. I will be thinking about this story for a long time.

This book was a pleasant surprise! A girl who gets roped into this magic world, ghosts/spirits, and betrayal! I could not put this book down! The only thing I wish was done was building up how the magic works but honestly the mystery behind everything keeps you turning the pages! If you want a romance/fantasy/mystery - then pick up this book! I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
