I picked this book based on the interesting book description where book involved such as; elements scifi and cyber punk, murder mystery and main character being involved in being uncover with drug lord.
The books starts quite strong with immediately introducing the scenes of the murder of henric (decorated officer).

Then after we are introduced to aleta, who is the detective of the interstellar agency on how she was instantly assigned to the case to solve the mustery of the murder decorated officer Hendric.
Aleta has a pet elara, who comes everywhere with her and even on her uncover mission.

It’s shows how aleta went about agreeing to go undercover to be determined to find out what Henric got murder, and also satisfy her urge to have an adventure by being able to venture out to other planets.

It did well showing the dynamics aleta was faced with her colleagues and the organisation she works for.

We get introduced to havid, the mmc, where she I paired with on undercover mission.
Their is a back story and introduction of how she and havid met at first and in present day where they met again because of the mission their paired up to be.

I did like with book having intrigue with the dynamic of havid and aleta, because you don’t know where they gonna lead with being with each other romantically or will they just be good team mates on the mission together, so their was good suspense on that side of things.

I did find the author did you well with the the world building in book, by providing descriptive and atmospheric surroundings in the book that really did make me feel being transported in a cyberpunk futuristic world and introduced to unique the sci fi elements, such robots and hoover crafts, which is always exciting to read about whenever I read sci fi book.

While Aleta and havid undercover, they got to know and target a specific drug lord son and his family, but it was elata who ended up getting more deep with that drug lord family then she intended to.

I did love the author including in the plot of the book a lot of characters of the drug lords and their family members.
It was interesting to get to know the members of family vaguely and how they operate and get to know their family dynamics.

We got also a glimpse of hidden secrets coming out of both Aleta and havid and how they go about dealing with those while on the undercover mission.

One of negatives of was the writing was good, but there were times it was abit confusing to follow the plot at times.
The ending was so good and the plot twist at the end was good.

Having read my fair share of sci-fi books such as; coldwire, demon star and will of the many and strength of the few.
But having read astral shadows I felt this book was very strong and unforgettable sci fi cyberpunk book.

This was such a fun and atmospheric read! I really enjoyed the eerie, unsettling feeling throughout the story and the way the supernatural elements slowly pulled me in. The characters kept me invested, and there were plenty of creepy moments that made me want to keep reading. While it wasn’t perfect for me, I still had a great time with it and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a dark, strange, and atmospheric read.
