Description

The lone survivor of a massacre. The genetically enhanced immortal who spared only him.

On an isolated planet where unity is as engineered as its people, two human lines nearly drove each other to extinction rather than acknowledge their shared humanity. The empire that maintained peace for the last century cannot afford to show the cracks in its control. But when Jesse's mining town is slaughtered under mysterious circumstances, it's clear ancient bigotries linger, and rebels now have access to magic or tech capable of wide-scale genocide. But Jesse only sees the Red Demon fleeing the scene of the crime, a bio-engineered immortal who should protect the empire instead of killing her own kin. Lost and alone, Jesse sets out on a path for justice that will bring him face to face with both his misconceptions—and new enemies.

Faruhar, the so-called Red Demon, is not the mastermind Jesse expects. Guilt ravages her fragmented mind over crimes she cannot remember committing, and a code impressed on her by a few kind people she cannot forget. And when she and Jesse face off, hatred quickly turns to hesitation, as they together uncover a mystery that might unravel their world’s fragile peace.

A twisty science fantasy with tense fight scenes and a spicy romantic subplot.

Is this book for you? Red Demon is a hard sci-fi fantasy dedicated to those who have endured trauma. It will read closer to fantasy and incorporate genetics, mycology, and neuroscience in the background, but the main character is not particularly educated on any of those topics. While you don't need an interest in science to enjoy it, you should expect to enjoy other hard epic fantasy. The romance arc kicks off in the second half, so this book is not a good fit for those craving romantic tension from the start. Expect a bi protagonist with raging ADHD and themes of brotherhood, resilience, trauma healing, and redemption.

A Note From the Publisher

YOU, reviewers who may enjoy this book and vouch for it, are my most important marketing plan as an indie. I can (and will) request reviews on Booklist and Library Journal, but they will most likely ignore them. Libraries and Bookstores are more likely to ignore an indie title too, even if this made my narrator Brandon Francis cry.

The Kickstarter reached its first funding goal in 2 hours from existing print readers, but that goal only covered 15% of the actual costs. I need the support reviewers can provide to afford to keep writing new books in this series.

Thank you for everything you do, and I hope Red Demon leaves a mark where it counts.

Advance Praise

“From its dramatic opening lines and spectacular world-building depth to the visceral emotionality of the prose and Jesse's remarkable story arc, this novel exceeds every expectation for the genre.”

..“Combined with existential quandaries that we're facing in the real world, Bihagia has crafted a stunningly multifaceted first instalment, emphatically demonstrating a mastery of both sci-fi and fantasy storytelling.” — Self Publishing Review

“I had the chance to work on this fast-paced science fantasy as a proofreader, and I was mesmerised by its richly realized setting and characters. I also may or may not have threatened Sill that I need more books set in this world.” — Danai Christopoulou, Pushcart-nominated author and editor at Hugo-nominated khōréō

“Unique and haunting science fiction fantasy with incredible worldbuilding and memorable characters.” — Reedsy Discovery’s Viktorija Blazheska

Marketing Plan

Red Demon will continue to be promoted through a combination of social media, reviewer outreach, library and bookstore outreach, and live events. The print version has been out since September 2025, with a growing following. Red Demon is carried in at least 52 bookstores and  42 libraries, and Sill now has hundreds of books they sign and sell out of their home office. Their next social media will feature a couch made out of all these dang boxes.

There is an ongoing Kickstarter to fund audiobook production running through Oct. 20. If you finish the book quickly and love it, please share this with your friends!

The audiobook will be promoted through my social media channels, including Facebook, Instagram, Threads, Bluesky, TikTok, and YouTube, with particular emphasis on reaching science fiction/fantasy readers and audiobook listeners. I will use NetGalley to provide review copies to reviewers, librarians, booksellers, and other book-industry professionals.

The audiobook WILL NOT be Audible-exclusive. Please request at your libraries! This goes a long way both in paying for production and ensuring I find readers.

Sill submitted the Red ebook to Kirkus. She also submitted the audiobook to Kirkus, as well as Booklist and Library Journal. Given that  this is and an indie title, they are most likely to ignore the submission and assume it sucks without reviewing it. Most libraries will ignore the title because it lacks a Library Journal and Booklist review... unless readers request it. Indies are made or broken by reader support.

So YOU, reviewers who may enjoy this book and vouch for it, are my most important marketing plan. I paid for professional production with an award-winning narrator who rocked the recording of this book. I made Brandon Francis cry, and please don't let that be for nothing. The Kickstarter reached its first funding goal in 2 hours from existing print readers, but that goal only covered 15% of the actual costs. I need the support only your reviews and mention can provide to be able to afford to keep writing new books.

Thank you to NetGalley, Victory Editing, Oria Press, and the author for the audio ARC of this story. All thoughts are my own.

Red Demon is a story rife with trauma. It begins with the eradication of an entire town, and sees its lone survivor on the hunt for the annihilator. It's definitely an interesting premise.

What I Loved
Sill Bihagia can write really well. Their descriptions are visceral, and I enjoyed that quite a bit. The entire opening with the massacre was an excellent introduction to this world. It was gnarly, gripping, and it made me want to read more. The fight scenes were excellent as well.

What I Thought Could be Better
As the story progressed, I found myself tuning out. I would have to listen to some sections over again when I would feel lost. And I cannot even pinpoint exactly what it was that caused this. Like I said before, Bihagia can write, but I had a hard time investing in the story. I think I will need to re-listen from start to finish.

Audio Narration
Brandom Francis and Cassandra Trieu provided the audio narration, and I thought they did a fantastic job.

Overall
This world has a ton of potential, and I would definitely be interested in reading more. I'm not much of a hard science person, nor a romance person, but I did not find either hurdle insurmountable for the enjoyment of this story.

Thank you so much Sill for my ALC
Red Demon by Sill Bihaga is an engaging and thought-provoking story that explores themes of courage, fear, conflict and perseverance. I experienced the story through the audiobook rather than reading a physical copy, which gave me a different perspective on the characters and events. Listening to the narration allowed me to become immersed in the story and follow the characters as they faced difficult situations and made important decisions.

One of the most interesting aspects of Red Demon is the way the story develops its conflict. As I listened to the audiobook, I became interested in what would happen next and how the characters would respond to the challenges they faced. The events create tension and encourage the listener to think about the consequences of the characters' choices. This made the story more than simply a sequence of events, as it also raised questions about how people react when they are placed in difficult or frightening circumstances.

The characters also play an important role in communicating the main ideas of the story. Their experiences demonstrate how people can respond differently to fear, pressure and conflict. As I listened, I was able to understand more about their struggles and the decisions they had to make. The challenges they experienced highlighted the importance of courage and perseverance. These qualities helped make the characters relatable because they showed that facing difficult situations often requires people to make choices even when they are uncertain or afraid.

Listening to Red Demon as an audiobook also influenced my experience of the story. The narrator's voice and delivery helped create the atmosphere and made certain moments feel more dramatic and engaging. Instead of concentrating on the physical pages of a book, I could focus on the way the story was being told and imagine the scenes in my mind. I found this an enjoyable way to experience the novel because the narration helped maintain my attention and made the characters' experiences feel more immediate.

Overall, Red Demon by Sill Bihaga is an interesting story that explores important ideas about courage, conflict, fear and perseverance. Listening to the audiobook allowed me to experience the story in a different way and helped me become immersed in the characters and events. The story encouraged me to think about how people respond to challenging situations and how their choices can affect what happens to them. For these reasons, I found Red Demon to be a meaningful and engaging audiobook experience. I LOVED IT
