Hi Karen,

My next review is as follows:

"Dead Or Alive", written by Ken McCoy and published in hardback on the 30th June 2016 by Severn House Publishers Ltd. 256 pages.ISBN-13: 978-0727886330

Introducing Detective Inspector Sep Black in the first of a brand-new series of hard-hitting police procedurals, set in Leeds. Two children have been abducted on their way home from school. After several weeks, they are still missing - and no one knows whether they are alive or dead. The police are certain that ruthless local gangster Vince Formosa is behind the kidnapping, but without proof their hands are tied. Forced to resign following an accidental death in police custody, former Detective Inspector Sep Black knows he's been set up. But how can he prove it - and stay alive in the process? Convinced that Formosa has a mole within the police, Black sets out to expose the traitor, clear his name and wreak revenge on the man who brought him down. In order to do so, he must go undercover and find the missing children. But even the best-laid plans can sometimes go awry .

Sep Black, lets his hair and beard grow long and wears old dirtied clothes and adopts the name of 'Jimmy Lennon', a career criminal that he knows is out of circulation. He is able to mimic a Glasgow accent and using this persona is able to get much information from the unsuspecting criminals close to local gangster Vince Formosa. The author writes with a very convincing but wry, humorous, touch that kept me gripped to the final pages.

I read for review two of the authors earlier books in 2007 ('Hammerhead') and 2008 ('Loser')_ about a private detective named Sam Carew and I enjoyed them very much. This very prolific author continued writing but branched out into romantic saga type books which did not appeal to me but I'm pleased he has now returned once again to writing crime fiction.

Ken McCoy writes in a very thrilling style and the 256 pages just flew by. The book was so entertaining you just don't want it to end, but end it must and it does so in a completely unpredictable way that kept me guessing until almost the last page.

I look forward to reading more gripping episodes about the adventures of Detective Inspector Sep Black in the not too distant future. Recommended.

Best wishes,

Terry
